  • One of my favourite daily trainers from 2021 has had an update - the Glycerin 20 from Brooks promised silky smooth transitions and cushioning for days. Brooks have made some massive updates to this shoe, so how did it hold up to 500 miles of running? Let's find out!

I'm 6'3 225lbs and I've found these shoes to be the phenomenal for heavier runners (190lbs or more) because us heavier Runners can really bottom out on those super soft shoes like the GEL Nimbus. Kind of like how a sports car suspension can do an amazing job for a sports car, but if you use that same suspension on a big heavy truck it's just going to bottom out and ride horribly. The foam/cushion is like the suspension of the shoe. Something liek the Gel Nimbus that works well for someone who weighs 160 lb will not perform the same for someone who is 230lbs... and the Brooks Glycerin 20 I believe performs best for heavier people who genuinely need a little more robust cushion that might feel a bit firm or hard to someone less heavy, but with if you put a heavier person in that same shoe it's going to feel less firm to them because they are heavier and will compress the foam more..... does this make sense what I'm saying?....It does in my head I hope it made sense how I explained. Have your people genuinely need a less squishy foam because they will bottom it out if it's to squishy.

100% agree. It's going to make a huge difference and it's part of what makes finding the right shoe such a subjective mission. As an aside, how many miles did you get out of the shoe? I've went over 1000 before retiring this one - the first shoe I've gone that far with.

6' 2" 230 and I agree. Tried them all and like the cushion / support combo of the Glycerin GTS. Like the Ghost max but a bit too soft. Ty for review.

220 lb here and they are perfect. I bought a second pair in case they make big changes for the 21. I think runners weight should come up more often because it has a huge effect on the midsole performance. For example I hated the Novablast 2 despite overwhelmingly positives reviews, they were too soft and unstable.

Really glad I found this thread, 6’2” and 225 lb just ordered a pair 🤞they’re good as a daily runner. Other trainers I’ve used quickly loose their structure.

I was surprised to hear that these weren't comfortable. I just ordered a pair because I have really bad plantar fasciitis and all the youtube videos I've watched from runners said how amazing they were so I'm crossing my fingers that they work out for me. I'm not a runner. I just need them for daily walking around but heard they were like walking on a cloud.

Bought the exact same one last week ... did my first 5k run yesterday and stopped after my sole started feeling a bit sore ... 😅. I believe I have a little wide forefoot so that might be the problem. But yes it did feel a bit clunky . 🤣 ...
I hope at that cost , I do start liking it a bit soon .

I agree with this review. Got the 20 ahead of Saucony triumph 20 as I didn't want another mushy shoe like the Novablast 2. 210k in The Glycerin is comfortable and I can transition quite smoothly, but it is clunky and too rigid I feel. They also aggravate my PF on long runs, which is what they're supposed to be good at. So I agree just a recovery shoe up to 10 miles max I think and for that it's expensive. I may do the same as you and put them in the cupboard and go back to them at a later date☺️.. They've already been added to the dog walking rotation...btw have you tried the Nike Invincible (1 or 2)? Be good to get your views on them as I'm tempted if they come down a bit more in price. Cheers👍🏾

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Glycerin 20 and for agreeing with the review! It's unfortunate that the shoe has been causing issues for you, especially with aggravating your PF on long runs. It sounds like you've found a good use for the Glycerin as a recovery shoe for shorter distances or for casual wear, but it's a shame that they may not be worth the price for your needs. I haven't personally tried the Nike Invincible 1 or 2, but I've heard good things about them in terms of comfort and energy return. If you do end up trying them out, I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks again for your comment and happy running!"

Got Glycerin 19s lately. Tried 20s in the running store, they are firmer than 19s, bit more bulky too, wasn't 100% sure about them, good fit, roomy, tried latest Nimbus, upper too tight for my feet sadly, comfy ride though, quality built. 19s - great shoes I must say. Much more comfy than my Pegasus 39 or Mach 4 but still haven't found a better shoe than my old Adidas Supernova Glide 8 (did over 1000 miles in them) - Glycerin 19s have some similarities but the foam is not as bouncy as Boost foam. I think Start Fitness has some great deals going on right now on them. Managed to find some discount code and got extra 10% off. I think I paid £72 for them. Was thinking of getting 2 pairs actually 😅 But will wait for Saucony Endorphin Speed 3s once they're around £100.

It's definitely worth hunting around for those bargains when you find that perfect shoe! £72 is a brilliant price for them. Thanks for confirming my thoughts on the G20 - it's an odd step from the G19, which was near perfect for me as a daily trainer. I'd like to try the Endorphin Speed 3 - I don't think I've ever worn Saucony but that one looks great!

When ever it comes to buying a new shoe...Brooks is the one bland I have never looked at. Not that Im not aware they exist, there is very little excitement or USP for them for me.

I think you both have a point - Brooks shoes are not very flashy looking, and don't get a huge amount of hype/attention BUT they are worth trying if you get the chance Kevin. On the whole, they make quality footwear that gets the job done.
