  • Welcome to this Brooks Glycerin 20 review! Have you got a pair already, or are you planning on getting one in the near future? Here are a few good and bad things you need to know about Brooks' max-cushion daily trainers.
Spoiler alert: the Glycerin 20 was influenced by one of the most controversial Brooks running shoes of 2021... and I love it!
    \\details
    Price - $160/£155 - Glycerin 19’s RRP $150/£140
Availability - Available both in the US and UK
    Weight - 11.5oz/327g (men’s US 11/UK 10) - an ounce heavier than Glycerin 19
    Drop - 10mm (34 mm heel / 24 mm forefoot) - Same drop as Glycerin 19
    \\what’s the Brooks Glycerin 20?
The Glycerin 19 is Brooks’ max cushioned neutral daily trainer for long, easy miles. The Glycerin 20 uses a new nitrogen-infused midsole foam called DNA Loft v3, inherited from the quirky Aurora BL, one of the most interesting running shoes from 2021. Brooks improved the fit of the upper and also made the crash pad a bit wider for better stability.
Fun fact: The story of the Glycerin begins in the late 1990s - the name was actually inspired by the song “Glycerine” by the English band Bush.
    \\4 things I like
Sleeker design - the new Glycerin 20 looks much less of a ‘dad shoe’ as its predecessors. It’s far from being a fashionable shoe, but it looks much sleeker and handsome, which is awesome. It might have something to do with the midsole foam looking more intentionally chunky, or maybe it’s the bolder colours and design. Whatever it is, it’s working for me.
Aurora BL flashback - The bumpy midsole of the Glycerin 20 reminds me of the Aurora BL, a Brooks BlueLine limited edition shoe that I actually really liked. I put it away because of the move so I can’t show them to you, but I drop a link in the description to the review I wrote for T3. The design of the Aurora BL was out of this world - literally, Brooks took inspiration from ‘space age’ design -, so the Glicerin 20 isn’t the same thing, but it’s reminiscent of those shoes.
Upper fits perfectly - I found the upper a bit tighter than the Glycerin 19, in a good way. The reworked engineered air mesh upper feels more supportive, although the reinforced area over the toes feels shallower than on the Glycerin 19, so please be mindful of that if you have wider feet.
Awesome daily trainer - There is no escaping the fact that the Glycerin 20 is now a better, more responsive daily trainer than the Glycerin 19. It might be heavier, but as we’ve learned from the example of the METASPEED EDGE+, adding weight can be beneficial to running performance, when done properly. The DNA Loft v3 foam is tailor-made for the kind of job the Glycerin 20 needs to do, which is somewhat slower, long distance runs.
    \\2 things I don’t like
Not the max cushioned, boring shoes you used to - The addition of the DNA Loft v3 made the Glycerin 20 a better running shoe, but it also made it less versatile, as it’s not as comfortable to wear for walking etc. as the Glycerin 19. It’s not uncomfortable, but compared to its predecessor, it’s less spacious and soft. Nurses and other people who are on their feet a lot might not like the Glycerin 20 as much as they did the Glycerin 19.
Foam is not as soft as Brooks is trying to sell it - DNA Loft v23 is not a firm foam, but it’s not a ‘mega soft’ experience either. It might just be me, but ASICS’ Novablast or even some of the New Balance Fresh Foam shoes are way softer than the Glycerin. I would like to stress it’s not hard; it’s just that it’s not the soffit on the market, that’s all.
    \\should you buy it

    \\score
I award the Brooks Glycerin 20 90/100 points.

Saw few videos from good runners participating ultra marathons etc. They never said that the foam in Brooks Glycerin 20 is firmer than at Asics. They said, for e.g. that Asics Gel Kayano 29 with Asics softest foam FF blast + IS FIRMER than at Brooks. But not "a way softer" as described in this video. Besides, they tested these pairs after few hundred kilometers and were able to see the real capabilities of the both pairs...

I really like the Triumph 19 and Nimbus 24. Would you say the G20 is comparable to them?

Thanks! The Nimbus 24 is more cushioned imho. I haven't tried the Triumph 19, although I have the Triumph 20 at home I haven't tried yet, so I'll report back later how they compare!

@@pacemaxpro I’ve since been able to try the Glycerin 20 but didn’t like it as much as the other 2.
As for the Triumph 20, I think it’s a major improvement over the 19. Midsole and fit are awesome.

@@pacemaxpro I have the Nimbus 24 and Triumph 20. The Nimbus 24 was the best Nimbus to date. I haven't tried the 25, but I know it's COMPLETELY different. The Triumph 17 was a firm running shoe. They scammed us w/ the hype on that one, but the Triumph 20 is legit. I only use the Nimbus 24 for shorter and faster runs. The Triumph 20 REALLY settles in and feels pretty good.

What do you need the shoes for? Daily training? I love the gel kayano 29, an amazing shoe overall. The Glycerin 20 is also pretty good, but maybe not quite as soft (if cushioning is what you're after) 🤙
