    Wow, what a cool catch! I miss these engines. I though NJT sold all their GP40FH-2s to another railroad.

      Look Out For The Train Only some. 4139 is the last one left and its currently OOS at the MMC.

      Michael Sullivan Ah, ok. I know NJT still has two F40s, but uses them for maintenance trains.

      Look Out For The Train They have 11, but only two are in service.

    Nice catch with the DOTX Ex-New Jersey Transit units and DOTX passenger cars.

      The arrow 3 units are EMUs, not passenger cars, though some were converted.

    I’ve always wondered why NJT got rid of their F40s (when other commuter railroads continue to use them and even rebuild them) yet they keep the geeps around, decade after decade!

      The ALP45DPs are the main reason as to why the F40s, and GP40FHs were sold off. THe GP40PH-2As were also retired from this advent. Now NJT has furthermore secured a procurement for new and additional ALP45s. These were given the name ALP45As

    A shame to see those locomotive that still have life left on them, to be soon used only to crash test. Nut should have spent money to rebuild them.

    • @vectronaut3633
      @vectronaut3633 9 лет назад

      But why are they doing crash tests with them when only a few are in service?

    • @gregorygrice
      @gregorygrice  9 лет назад +3

      Trainz and NS fan The FRA will use the cars to test newer safety technology, not the current crash features that are on them. These basically serve as a test bed or "lab rat" so to speak.

    What a grim destiny. Worse than scrap. Don't get me wrong, there things were loud, rough, hot and unreliable, but even I don't think they don't deserve this...

    When did BNSf become CSX?

    Why are there 2 locomotives that are F40s with noses like GP40s? What are those even?

    • @pascackvalleylinerailfan5037
      @pascackvalleylinerailfan5037 5 лет назад

      Interstellar13 YT, the ones that body looks like an F40PH and a GP40ph is a locomotive called the GP40FH NJT ordered lots of them I the 80s and 90s. Metro north ordered them as well in the Pascack Valley Line and the Port Jervis Line. All of the NJT ones are gone but you can still find them sometimes in the MN lines. I hope that answers your question

    • @AirchimeLTDproductions174
      @AirchimeLTDproductions174 3 года назад

      They're GP40FH-2s which are standard GP40-2s built into an F45s cowling and given CAT HEP generators. These were ordered by NJT and the MNCRR in the Mid-80s. NJT retired their FHs due to the arrival of newer ALP45DPs. Metro North still has all of their FHs in service on the Hoboken Division.

  • @gp40railfan44

    Great catch dude! But it isn’t so happy for me because I love those engines and NJT is retarded enough to retire these locomotives and replace them with the ugly and unreliable ALP45DP.
