To have a car worthy of an SMX is an achievement in itself. Just amazing what these engines can do consistently. Congratulations Steve you're killing it.
@Hoosier81 There are plenty of builders that give their customers this type of service, The average person just doesn’t know about them because they can’t afford to purchase anything from them! I have been a mechanic for over 25 years and have owned my own business for the past 10! A customer came in with a rusted out exhaust system and he asked me why the manufacture doesn’t build them better, I told him I can install an exhaust system that will outlast the life of the car and I will also give him a lifetime warranty parts and labor! He was excited and wanted me to go ahead and do the job, I said no problem let me just go fill out a work order for him to sign which authorizes me to do the work! I hand him the work order which also has the breakdown of all the parts and labor along with the total cost of the job, While reading it I saw the expression on his face change and he asked me if the price was correct and I answered absolutely! Needless to say he did not get the mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust system, I proceeded to tell him that people would not be able to afford a vehicle if everything was built with all of the best Materials! There are plenty of affordable and trustworthy shops around, The problem is people never take the time to find them because they don’t start looking until they have a problem and are now in a rush! The shop I worked at before I opened my own shop has been in business for the past 42 years, They are repairing vehicles owned by great great grand children of their original customers!
it must be so awesome to see so many people running your engine and that they're doing well. I hope the rest of the week goes as smoothly for you as possible in the views of Tennessee is beautiful
goodness how beautiful the feeling must be, to enjoy all the bald eagles you could ever imagine and still stroll along at highway speeds just idling along i love it absolutely amazing i turn wrenches for a living so i understand the need for this
The wife and I had a temporary loss of sanity and left Tennessee after raising two boys for 28 years and moved to south Florida. After 3.5 years away, we sold the house in Florida and have moved back to a beautifull valley in Soddy Daisy, TN. It is good to be home!
So funny to see a 200+ mph Car doing "Two lane blacktop" up through the Blue Ridge mountains like some touristy family ride ! Safe travels and good luck to all of you....
On Drag Week 2018, we stopped at the last check point you showed on the way from Darlington to Bristol. Beautiful place. I still have my photos on my phone from that trip.
That was Jeff Oppenheim “Deaf Jeff” driving the Elcamino. There is a VERY interesting story behind the burnt fender on that car. You should talk to him about it. Some Repair parts for it came from a donor car out of my garage via James Rowlett.
Just wanted to thank you guys for all of your posts during drag week. Definitely living what I consider best life ever. Keep trucking. Oh love the car. Had a gold Z back when they were new.
With how bad it rocks in the beams would that not be a Huge contributing factor in the, getting it to leave? All that mass going backwards as the tires are trying to drive forward. In theory, it would be like trying to launch a stationary car with twice the power?... Stay safe out there, love y'all 👍👍!
Yeah, the bump into the lights seems quite aggressive. It rolls back and forth hard and it's hard to get accurate results when you may leave on a forward rock compared to a backwards one. I'm not a professional, but it doesn't take a rocket surgeon to see that it may affect the leave.
@@johnminutolo-xr3hn- I really doubt it has much impact on a big tire car other than the reaction time. A radial tire might be a bit different. Would want to hear from a dedicated radial tire racer…
For us fanboys, it fantastic to see two super heroes teamed up kicking ass. Congratulations Steve on the SMX platform and you taking the time out of your busy schedule. To see you out in the trenches is one more reason to show you really stand behind your work.
Hot Rod Drag Week was the innovator of the drag and drive events that you basically engineered and built your entire SMX platform for. Of course your engines are gonna be all over it. Congratulations man.
It looks like you guys are doing part of the Blue Ridge Parkway by the pictures? If so, that is one of the best drives in the US, having done half of it myself. Stunning drive.
Good video 👍🏻🙌🏼 I was at that hotel on the wrong side of town with ya where they made y’all move the car to other side of awning 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ but the sketchy thing from this whole video is eating gas station hot dogs from south of the border 😂😂😂😂 keep it up hopefully everything goes your way this week 👍🏻🙌🏼👊🏼🔧🔧
Dam! Nice drive. That really looks like a great road trip in a hot rod. I have one question? How does that car handle with the trailer on it? Those front tires can’t help I would think. Clark seems to be doing well.
Steve is a friend everyone wishes they had amazing man amazing engines but most of all one damn good friend. Leaves his own passion to help a customer friend Bailey can't ask for more mass respect for Steve if you have not subscribed won't regret it excellent videos and learn some good engineering along the way.
I was just thinking last night, you must be a bit nervous at these events with so many cars running your engines. You've basically got a stake in it with every team using one.
You make some very scary motors my friend! It's nearly impossible to beat an SMX in a drag and drive event unless you got more power adders and a better tune on your own SMX. I wish so badly Mike Finnegan would holler at you for a BOAT motor. That would be a very fun series of videos to watch between your channels.
Excellent video. I really enjoyed the driving portion. It really is no surprise that the SMX is doing great, it was designed for this. But the way everyone is turning them down so much, I think the SML would be a better motor for Drag N Drive events. Cheers
I made it to Bristol Dragway this morning after pulling an 8 hr shift at work just in time to see Tom loading up to leave. So apparently the one car I busted my ass to get to the drag strip in time to see must have ran with the chickens this morning. That means early for you northern folk. Lol OH well, got to see alot of great racing anyway.
Now you know why that big glob of rtv was in the lifter valley lol. Glad to see the running great and putting do2n some good numbers and then turn around and drive it for a couple hours like it's your daily.
and just how many engine builders with a race car at the shop, will go on the road to help someone else and others and not stay at the home shop to keep up on production ? I know there are some others there you can trust. your such of a one of a kind. we know you. will keep up. the good work

Could not have said it better!
This one is not an SMX. Brodix big block. The II car has the SMX
I think the achievement is having the SMX. They can't be cheap!
That's not a SMX in 1.0
That's just a fairly expensive BBC. Looks in $60K range
Hard to imagine the engineering, fabrication, and sheer cost, just to take the abuse from an SMX. Insane.
STEVE like a proud daddy at the track with all his kids😂😂😂😅
Steve is a good guy giving everybody at drag week a tutorial on how to tune their SMX
Wish everyone did business like SM

Yes Steve deserves to reaps the rewards GODSPEED
Thanks for the coverage, boys!!! Those of us working get to live a little through you guys!
Awesome to see your engines having success on these drag n drive events
Has an SM engine won an event this year?
@@aussiek2000 Yes Clark won at Sick Summer with an SMX
Awesome 👍 looking forward to the next chapter. Yeah Steve beautiful views of the valley and hills.
Great Video Steve. My opinion is I love 1.0 better than 2.0. That Camaro is just badass! Glad all of the SMX guys are rocking.
Such a good looking hot rod.
NO STEVE!!!!!! You are killing it at Drag Week. That has to be a great feeling. Congratulations!
More tech stuff.

I like how Steve actually hangs around the cars with his engines, like watching his babies grow and develop 🤣😊👍

He is basically the official, unofficial crew chief for several cars...

Thanks Steve, I appreciate your vids. Your support and care for your engines shines!
Got that billy bad boost! Cool to see a bunch of your SMX in the same event!

What a stud. Guy knows it all in this business... Nice work Stevo.
I forgot how much I love this yearly trek. Thanks!
Another great video…nice to see cars with your engines doing so well you must be so proud 😎
Damn those twisties, even though the video was sped up, looked AWESOME to drive! So jealous living here in flat Florida.
Hey Steve,
Thanks for doing these vids. You really are good at this stuff. You know what to leave and what to leave out. SMX killing it out there!
Congratulations Steve!! So glad for you to be able to see the results of all your years of hard work doing so well!!

That! My friends, is a BEAUTIFUL machine.
You two must've been famished to be fighting over gas station roller food. LOL
great work as usual! appreciate the videos and the knowledge Steve!!!
Congrats Steve!! Those SMX's are freakn awesome. And your support for what you build is phenomenal!! Well done sir!

Damn at Brown Mountain Overlook...I drove by there a couple days ago on the way to Tennessee. So cool.
Great music on this video. Also, cannot believe you did one run and done. Congrats.

1033 , looks like that Elco had a fire at some point.
I believe that Elco did have a pretty serious fire on a prior drag and drive event.

That's a good signing voice you got there! Really thought you'd sing about MI, but... when in Rome, I guess.
I hope this brings you more work! I need you to stay in business long enough for me to buy one of your engines. Should take me about 29 years...
