Growing up in McKeesport, I’m sure Lysle Blvd seen its fair share of dragstrip action, even if it was stop light to stop light. It’s a shame Pittsburgh International Dragway got closed down! Im quite young (30), I don’t remember ever hearing about drag racing in New Castle or Butler. I’m sure if you wrecked on Lysle Blvd racing on Friday or Saturday night, on Monday morning you went up to see Whitey at Bobs Auto Body on Evans St right next to the hospital and right across from Beacon St. By chance, did you happen to have a repair shop down in McKeesport?
It was the same way in Oregon. I'm 70, had a '56 2dr sedan, then found '57 2dr wagon in a field & it was all over; love at first sight. Ended up w/ a 1 piece tilt front end I designed & gas welded @ 17. I was just reminiscing about the ease of having fenderwell headers plumbed the same as this orange '55. Always wanted a '55 w/ a BBC & a 4 sp, a wheel standing monster. No straight axle, tho, they need a stance like the red one parked in front of the house. I was chatting w/ a youngin' recently, talking cars, & told him I was glad we didn't have nitrous or know we could put a semi's turbo on our Chevy motors. W/ the mostly stock chassis, bias ply tires, we'd have killed off a whole generation of racers & there wouldn't be nearly as many today. Did you ever think you'd see drag racing become mainstream popular; we were the bad boys in my day, the girls liked us, but that was where it ended.
When I was a young kid back in the seventies my dad drove (and raced) a car like that on the street ,a gasserd out 55 Chevy with a big block, roll bar in the back seat ,he used to scare the hell out of me with that thing, he was the "Bob falfa" of our town LoL! He would come pick me up from school with it and pull up and be rattling the windows of the schoolhouse , great memories!!

I have a 55 Chevy 210 2 door post myself. I got it from a guy that rescued it from rural North Dakota in 2019. It had been at a farm site sitting since 1973. I bought it in 2019, and drove it for the first time in spring 2022.
I loved the fenderwell headers on my '57 2 dr wagon. Had the exhaust plumbed out the collector side; all it too was 3 alum wingnuts & a flat plate in each side & I could be uncorked for racing. I'd be all closed back up by the time the cops got to us while all my buddies would be scrambling under their cars to get headers closed up. We had vindictive cops; if they could get us for "Conducting a Speed Contest", they'd make certain everybody w/ open exhaust got an excessive noise ticket. I kept a pair pliers & leather gloves under both front buckets, whoever was shotgun was responsible for that side & I did the other. Took less than a minute; open or close.
I`m glad you guys got together and made this video...great running Ratted 57 and friends enjoying themselves ! I hope 2017 is treating all of you well.
I love that 55, nicest I've ever seen. I have another video of this 55 at a drag strip saved in my favorites and I bet I watched it a hundred times. My first car at 16 was a 55 2 dr sedan and I had a 56 2 dr Belair.
