  • Directed and edited by Marcus Howard. Thomas Ashe was the last of the 1916 leaders to die in 1917 by forcefeeding while on hunger strike. He was a teacher, musician, poet and revolutionary. His battalion won the only 1916 victory during Easter Week at Ashbourne. This film tells how he carried the cross for Ireland. The 1916 Relatives Association event of the 100th anniversary of Thomas Ashe also features relatives of Thomas Ashe including his niece Eileen Quinn, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mícheál MacDonncha, UCC historian Gabriel Doherty, Marcus Howard and relatives from Ireland, UK and the USA. Featuring musical performances by Frank Callery and Pat Waters and Thomas Ashe's Black Raven Pipe Band.
