I have to believe that most people buy a watch for the aesthetics. This may not apply to everyone, but most of my GMT-owning friends hardly travel outside the state, much less the country. There is not a single scuba diver amongst my colleagues who proudly don their Submariner. And despite paying a small fortune for the privilege, I have yet to see anyone use their Chronograph’s stopwatch.
Breitling watches are for the people who lean into the absurdity of it all and say, “Here it is, world. My watch is so ridiculously complicated with its busy navigation slide-rule maze of a dial and bezel that nobody could possibly believe I actually use any of these features”.
Breitling owners are the most honest of the bunch. They bought a gorgeous watch because it’s gorgeous, period.

I’ve always found the modern Navitimer too ‘busy’ for my tastes, but there is something about the 1959 that strikes a chord with me and makes me wants to try one on in person.
Wonder if we’ll ever be able to do that again? 🤷🏻‍♂️

There are several size options... but they need to be at least 40mm to make the dials at least legible. Rolex Subs are 40mm and nobody gripes about wearing those...

Just like everyone else's comments, I have always wanted this watch.
I always said to my wife, when I make Captain at a Major Airline (after many years of struggling, hard work and being flat ass broke), I am buying a Navitimer.
Well, the day is upon me. I want it to be a family heirloom. I'd like to think that some day, after I fly West, someone will wear it and say, "This was my Dad's watch. He wore it to work with pride everyday. Now, I do too."
The best part would be being a Dad....

Quite fancied a Swiss Air Navitimer as it is quirky as hell and the discount was attractive, but the Swiss Air sticker on the caseback looked tacky. The slide rules and whizz bangs are just an aesthetic and something to twiddle about with like a dive bezel that nobody uses. The Breitling Navitimer is up there with other design icons like the Submariner but it’s all just window dressing for we the sad watch nerds.
