- Today I'm going to show you how to transfer your Windows from an SSD to an NVME M2 for free without losing data, im using BalenaEtcher software for free.
If your Windows 10 or Windows 11 is running slower than you'd like, than upgrading to an NVME M.2 drive , this can help to increase your system's speed and performance, with read and write more than 3 Gbps.
Easiest way to transfer Windows from SSD to NVMe M2 for free → bit.ly/48MbihL
Download BalenaEtcher at: balena.io/etcher
In this video, we'll guide you step by step through the process of cloning your existing C:/ drive to a new NVME M2 SSD.
You'll learn how to test your current SSD speed with CrystalDiskMark, and also prepare your M.2 NVME with a PCIe adapter, to connect the NVMe SSD M.2 and place to your computer,
If your PC doesn't recognize your NVME SSD, we'll show you how to set it up in the BIOS.
Using the free software BalenaEtcher, we'll walk you through the cloning process, and then you can remove your old SSD C:/ drive. You'll then test your new NVME M.2 SSD speed with CrystalDiskMark and create and format a new partition with unallocated space.

Thanks for the video but the problem with windows installing on NVME M.2 SSD on laptop with intel processors from generation 11 to 13 are not eternified both by windows 11 and windows 10, and the needed files to upload during widows installation were deleted from intel website. Show us how to solve this issue please.
What will happen to the other ssd? Is it emty?
@@animejr.6951 no it’s the same. You gotta come back and reformat the old drive to blank
Not is for free, is too expensive. For free is a big lie.
This was so clear this guy should get a medal. Been doing hardware for 25 years and his explaination was really good
Thank you for your amasing comment 🥰
I agree, also the fact that he showed a free way is great. I've seen other videos that show the apps that ask for premium when you actually try it. They never mention it in the video and waste your time. So thank you for not doing that.
Yeh I agree, been doing hardware for 30 years myself and this is a solid straight up tutorial on how to do this ... Legendary stuff and doesn't go on about nonsense!
Im New Yeah he very forward and simple and when it comes to computers sometimes the simple explanations is best, at least for me
surprisingly, this was the only video i found after several hours that understood exactly what my issues were and addressed them perfectly. thank you
Thank you for this amasing comment
im hoping the same here
What issue you had ?
etcher won't see my c drive. what should i do?
Thanks man, without any problems cloned the system and all the files to new SSD m2. Everything works good, all the licenses connected perfectly as nothing was changed :)
Good to hear , enjoy ! did your replaced with the same drive space? Or this new m2 its biger ?
If its biger make sure to extend the unallocated space using this method

This was very good tutorial on how to upgrade your SSD. The only part that didn't work for me was the Balena etcher software. However, Macrium Reflect worked like a charm. Thank you!
I'm working with an extremely slow HP 22-c0063w all in one and it is at flashing 0% around 40-45mbps and ETA at 375m to transfer to my Samsung 970 evo plus 1tb M2 drive...am I doing something wrong??
Very helpful video thank you. I’ve been waiting weeks for my new pc parts to come in and I have everything except ssd, coming a week later. I decided I’ll just reuse an old ssd and put in the new ssd later. 😊
So when you transfer the data does it just transfer windows or does it transfer everything on the drive? I know this might be self explanatory but I'm a very cautious person with my data and wish to double check just in case
30 years in IT and I never knew you could put smaller pci-e devices in to the larger slots! 😮 Would have made my designs a lot easier over the years! Thanks.
Glad I could help!

Thank you my friend! 👊🏼
and after that you can even unplug the old hdd where windows was installed, and use the new one completely?
Super easy and works great! Thank you!
You're welcome!
i want to just take the os and move it over to the nvme ssd i dont want to tansfer all the files i only have 500gb nvme ssd
Thanks a lot. This worked great! Can I just add my SSD back in and use it for storage of photos/videos?
What would I need to do to get it working as a storage drive?
to whoever will encounter the same issue as me that the m2 drive disappeared from diskmanagement, that's normal. because it has the same id after cloning the boot drive. all you have to do is to remove the old drive and use your m2. that's it. thanks for this video, helps a lot! i can now use my m2 nvme2 as boot
Wait, what if i just want to switch os to nvme but i want to maintain the ssd too?
@@Oblivionze This is what im trying to figure out as well
@@Oblivionzeany solution for this?

Ok so i tried using an adapter with my m.2 and balena etcher only showed my m.2 not my other system drive so i installed the m.2 directly on mother bored and now its saying plug a source drive. Any idea?
Can i then move my m.2 to a new pc. Plug it into the new motherboard and be good to go? Also currently stuck on 37% flashing 😢 not moving. If i cancel it says it may break my m.2 ssd
What happens when i boot up computer and my motherboard or windows doesn’t recognize my new m.2 ssd? I only have 1 ssd slot on my motherboard so there is no way to have 2 ssd in the motherboard to clone. Id have to clone my drive to external and boot under external ssd at boot but that work either. So i cant use my m.2 2tb ssd now. Fml
after i clone my c drive to my new m.2 i cant see it in my file explorer and if i go into my disk management it asks me to repartition the drive, is there something im doing wrong?
I was able to boot up windows after it had to run a repair. But ultimately got in using only the new drive. I have a problem where my start menu gives me a critical error and wants me to sign out each time I touch it
Great video. Just one question. Will the PC automatically boot from the new drive or do we need to assign it as the boot drive in bios? Thanks again for this comprehensive video.
Most likely you will have to assign it, in case that happens make sure your usb drive is ready with windows
If i don't have an extension but instead use an external drive to migrate windows there then later to the new nvme m2 ssd, will my other files on my external drive disappear?
You put out some of the best videos, i'm just getting around to cloning my M2 drive and I just found out that Windows 11 is blocking Balena Etcher.EXE, the file will not execute instead I receive a message asking to use another program to open it up. so I tried Macrium Reflect which is also a cloning tool and I received the same message., have you encountered this problem before and is there a fix.
thank you
I just read your messages , i will test today Balena Etcher Exe with windows 11 and come back to you with another answer
when im cloning my harddrive it keeps popping an error saying( Looks like etcher is not able to write to this location of the driver. This error is usually caused by a faulty drive, reader, or port. please try again with another reader or port. This nvme is brand new i just got it installed today.
So many videos had "free" programs. Turns out they aren't so free. Best tutortial!
Nice , yes this method works great
Thank you for your comment
Do you have to remove the source drive once the flash is complete? I still want to use my SSD as a separate storage. Thanks so much!
Remove to test it if everything looks great with new one , after reformat it the older one and use it as storage.
If your new cloned ssd its biger than what it was you have to watch this video also: if it shows wrong size

Hi, I have a problem with the method, whenever I hit flash, my NVMe m.2 (the target) disappear from the pc and i had to initialize disk again via disk management, do you know what i'm missing here?
that is normal, it happens because the source and the target have the same id, all you have to do is to remove the source drive. and use your new drive (m2) as boot
Thank you very much for the tutorial. Very clear and easy to follow. Now my new m.2 nvme can run boot with windows 10. Before this I headache how to clone with free method.

Followed this carefully, cloned my drive, but when I went to boot cloned OS from the target NVME It says the BCD is missing or contains errors. I removed it from motherboard to boot from my original OS drive again, but the same error occurs and my Windows is now non-booting.
I've tried Windows repair, BIOS boot priorities, and Command Prompt to try and rebuild and repair but no such luck. Can you offer any help? I don't understand how the original SSD I cloned is now failing to boot since all it was was a copy.
Another note, but I blue screened simply installing the NVME because apparently some motherboards have so many SATA Port lanes, and the new drive wouldn't register in BIOS until I removed another device. (I had 3 drives and a CD/DVD which took up all spaces.) This is something barely explained with this process, and stopped me booting into my Windows as well. I've had nothing but trouble trying to move my OS. I hope someone can help, my PC is a glorified brick right now.
Unfortunately there's a boatload of options not mentioned here. BIOS options for uefi, drive type in windows (mbr, etc) . Sorry I can't help just telling you the issues I am also running into
Here is the video to convert to uefi

I've just run into the same issue, did you have any luck fixing it or getting around it? I feel like I've tried everything
@@nizuuuuuuu Hi, afraid not. I ended up doing a clean OS install on my NVME, then used Windows Explorer to find my old OS, programs and files and re-install or move items from the old SSD to the new OS NVME.
This probably isn't what you want to hear, but on a positive note a fresh OS install is a great thing to give longevity to your PC. I also didn't lose any files because while Windows wasn't booting off my original OS, all my data was still there and visible. It could have been much worse. Still don't know why the original OS failed to read though.
I urge anyone trying to clone to READ THESE COMMENTS because frankly this video is misinformed and is causing damage. I hope the author puts some kind of disclaimer up in the description because clearly it's not as clear cut as it's made out to be.
How to fix this, after it got cloned then i remove the previous ssd, my pc turned into blue screen and said recovery
Can I do this and keep my other m.2? I just wan't to clone it to my new m.2 and boot windows from it, I just need to select in bios after doing this right? At the end I can just format my old m.2 right?
Please tell me if I'm wrong!
Yes exactly , this new one its biger one or smaller capacity?
Thanks a lot for this information I'm in the same situation. With Balena Etcher you made my day!!

@@Tips2FixOkay I will do as suggested , but I want to mention that I'm more conserned about old drive , for exemple if I clone my whole old disk "drive" to the new nvme drive and then boot from it then I guess I need to format the old drive , but I'm worried that I still can loose data and game saves which I don't want to happen even if I manage to clone everything safely , and also I want to keep a partition in the old drive a.k.a I actually only want my system os to be booted from a faster drive and that's it ... One more question please generally it's recommended that the source should be smaller than the destination what if they are both the same size like in my case they are both 1Tb ?
I did this and now it has added a system reserve E: and a local disk F: and I am so confused all I wanted to do was switch windows OS over to my nvme. I didn’t realize it was going to delete everything off the nvme
Love the video! getting Samsung 990 pro for my Aorus b650 elite ax ice motherboard was going to go with Gen 5 but for the price of the Gen 5 I can get 2tb Gen 4 990. My Question is.. So i have Sata SSD, Why can I not keep that for my OS specifically and use my 2TB M.2 for gaming and faster load times? I'm new to pc gaming by the way. A friend said i have to install the windows OS on the M.2 Where ill be loading and downloading games on
I've had 2 SSD's a while now and decided to transfer my operative system (windows 11) to my faster NVMe SSD but it didn't work. I cant open any programs now and the operative system is still on my old SSD ... I didn't take out anything from my PC and I didn't do anything in the BIOS but how do I fix my PC from here I just ran the program and thought it would work
Good job 👍🏻

Is it possible to to still use my old sata hard drive for more storage? Or would I have to get a new storage device?

hi , after doing the whole process , it looks like the new m2 ssd doesn’t have anything in it surprisingly . Is it because i have to remove the old ssd first?
Yes try to remove the older one and try to boot up with newer one , dont format the older one yet make sure that everything works well
I followed to the letter, cloned from hard drive to SSD. Would not boot from the new SSD. Ive been trying to change BIOS settings, ive gone through virtual repair, nothing works. So your telling me that if i take EVERYTHING from my sata ssd and switch it to my nvme my whole pc will run smoother? For me personally ive been running sata as my boot with windows and my nvme for everything else. Should I switch?
It's definitely worth considering! NVMe drives have faster read and write speeds compared to SATA SSDs, so transferring everything to your NVMe drive could potentially improve overall performance. Give it a try and see if you notice a difference! this is new video that i did for the same topic ruclips.net/video/tfWmUuWRM8I/видео.html
Once cloning is done, would the computer recognize the new (m.2) ssd as the new bootable drive? Cause i'm not planning to remove the old ssd as ill make it as a reserve drive.
Yes it will but for the moment after cloning remowe the old dont format it yet , pc will recokgnise the new one as a c drive than , when you see that everything its okay than format the old one and use it as archive
If new drive its bigger than the okder one make sure to see this video

I followed everything. Got the drive cloned. Tested thoroughly and everything worked great. I then formatted my old c: drive. Now i cannot boot the newly cloned drive. In command prompt it was now listed as g: drive. I tried reassigning to c: but i am still not able to boot. I'm not very happy. I shouldn't have fone this nonsense. My ssd was fine. Yes thats right , source is the SSD that its full with files your system etc… so its source

Just a courtesy message I had left the post on the clone app that was being blocked, I solved my problem it was actually downloading the wrong version, you may want to add in your video if an app does not load it may be due to the version that was downloaded in my case it should have been the legacy version. Hi, I followed the steps but ran into a problem now.
I managed to clone the disks, disconnected the boot drive but it still didn't boot (got message no proper boot device connected or something). Then I connected the boot drive back and could see both in disk management. Also, changed in Bios old boot drive to be secondary, after that my pc is not booting, asking for repair... I tried to do many changes in bios but nothing... I have one backup on an external drive but I think I rather need recovery USB to fix the boot.
Boot is on both but old one alone is not booting anymore even when nvme is disconnected..
Is there any fix?
Connect it both and try to boot for each one use F12 during ristart and you will see boot-order menu and choose drive to boot up
Thanks a lot

After i remove the hdd driver ( the old one ) it's say's "Reboot and select proper Boot device or insert Boot media in selected Boot device and press a key"
Hmm go to bios and set bootable order the new drive usually F2 , or Delete or Escape keys when you turn on your pc
Hi I'd like to ask something
I just bought the exact same nvme as yours (Crucial p3 plus) and ive been seeing a lot of comments that It's not recommended as a boot drive.
should i buy a seperate nvme for OS? or is p3 plus not that bad as some people make it seem?
Look formthe moment in my PC for drive C:\ its exactly the same model that im showing on the video. And its bean exactly from the moment that uploaded this video till now and i dont see any problem :)
i have bin chewing on for the past 3 weeks tracing and trying to get passed the blue screens of death and fails fitting a samsung NVMe.2 using there migration tool i was resigned to starting from scratch with a clean install
fingers crossed it worked and had 0 transfer issues and the nvme has bin running with no BSOD
well done 👍👍👍
Im happy to hear that you did it, so now if your new m2 its biger than the old one you maybe need to see this video
How to Fix SSD Disk Shows Wrong Size after Cloning (100% Free Method)
ruclips.net/video/4ke3_FeB8wQ/видео.html
@@Tips2Fixthank you for response over a day 0 problems and i have mirrored the hud to an older drive so my ssd will become my games drive . i have looked at resizing and have put a copy of both the details and a copy of both programs into an archive file as it was ssd- nvme.2 to use as my new c drive and both were reported as 500 gb i was surprised to see near 19 gb left but its actually useful i keep copies of all my manuals for hardware and games dating to late 1980s there backed up on usb thumb drives separate from my external hdd backups i am very good at double backing up things so if i get a terminal problem i have more than 1 safe backup of everything .
I did everything just like you said and when I went back to put my old storage back in I cannot boot anymore. And now taking it back out I still cannot boot?
Did you replace old hdd with new ssd right?
Try to run F12 during startup and choose your new ssd for booting
Very detailed explanation, Thank you!
You are welcome
Can I do the same with hdd to nvme ssd
cool vid!
Thank you for your comment 😍
can i still use my old sata drive and have it still installed when i move my O.S. to the new drive?
You can have your old drive , you can format it wipe it out and keep it as D:Drive
Make sure that your computer working well with new ssd and after reformat the old one
Great video for sure, just one question what if my m2 drive already has three games installed in it, can this be done at this case too`?
Yes this is clone process and will be exactly the same
@@Tips2Fix Thank you for the answer
I have a question if anyone could answer speedily please. Am I now safe to reformat my old SSD, into a spare drive without it affecting anything? Or should I use it as backup?
if the clone process its done and you are able to run from your new ssd , than you are good to go and format the old hdd or ssd and use it as archive drive D:
to make sure you are running on new ssd please remove old ssd and turn on your laptop
@@Tips2Fix Thanks. 👍
Can I do this using an m.2 that always had files in it? Or do I need a clean m.2?
when you do cloning using this method it will format the new m2 and will be exactly with the system drive
Do i still have to remove ssd, if i want to use it.
i have it both , i have m2 ssd and ssd in my workstation and in my laptop
m2 for system and normal ssd for data storage
is it possible that this can corrupt data?
I don’t see my drive C where my windows is installed in balenaetcher please help :)

I've follow all the steps, it works perfectly but my new NVMe M2 has more space than the old SSD, so there is a 250gb partition that is empty and I can't give that space to the windows partition... how can I do that ?
(yes I was in the exactly same situation than you, with a very old SSD bought years ago and a brand new NVME for windows, but I got so frustrated when you finished with "I'll come to that in another tutorial"... I'm so sad 😢)
