► When this just happened I had to stop doing what I was doing and record this video. It might now be as groundbreaking as I think, but at least I haven't heard about it before and I couldn't find any information about it in Oase original product manual!

I would love to see you test an Oase Biomaster 250 vs Eheim Pro 4 250. I have done this test myself and determined the actual flow rate of the Oase to be 336 liters per hour, whereas the Eheim literally did double that with the exact same amount and type of filter media in it.
Please do a dedicated video. I have enjoyed a number of your other reviews and would appreciate it. Oase is less common here in the USA, but I have been looking at the BioMaster Thermo series for a while.
did you leave any sponge in the filter or did you fill the filter with organic media and left only the sponge in the pre-filter?
dunno if you guys cares but if you guys are bored like me during the covid times you can watch all of the new movies and series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my girlfriend for the last couple of weeks =)
@Alberto Kace definitely, I have been using instaflixxer for since november myself =)
Yesss do a dedicated video for this filter. Installing the tubing and all. Going to buy this one for my first canister filter 🌱🌱🌱🌱
Good choice, video coming soon
This was very helpful. I enjoy all of you protips . I have currently been watching all of yours and George Farmers videos to gather inspiration for my 75 gallon aquarium
cool, thanks for being a loyal viewer of our channels 🙌
Thank you for sharing! I own a Biomaster 250 and also had the same problem with the spring brush ... no more!
Thanks! I recently picked a 350 so haven't had to clean it yet. You just made my first cleaning a little easier!
you welcome
thank you so much for tip how to clean the hose i received my oase 350 this week loving so far this is my first canister i always had hang back filters .. it is easy to maintain it so far love the handle .. easier to carry for me .and i rig it different with different sponges , polishing pads , seachem matrix & lava rock to run better and i also put different coarser sponges in the prefilter .. love the prefilter allot
I thought it should do this but never worked. I stopped the video to try this and it works well. I did a water change yesterday but gave up on the filter pipes as I did not want to take the time to disconnect pipes. Thanks and that is the best tip this year so far. The Oase instructions are flimsy at least the English ones are.
who reads instruction manuals? 😂
I use Biomaster thermos on all of my large tanks and this is great info! Thanks, Jurijs!!
you welcome, I knew I was not the only one
Yes, Please do a dedicated video about the OASE BIOMASTER filters. Thank you! Good tip.
thank you for watching
You are a genius! Yes please, make a video of this filter, as I am contemplating whether to invest in one of these or not. I am still hesitant.
Great idea on how to clean the tubing without removing the tubes. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the tip! I also don't know the trick until now (have been started to use oase filter for several months).
luckily I wasn't the only one 😂
That is a great tip! I have a Thermo 600 arriving today and I can not wait to get it up and running on my new tank!
Great filters, love them
@@JurijsJutjajevs It's here and it's beautiful! Now the wait for the rest of it... I can't wait to get scaping!
Please do a dedicated video for this filter. I would love to also see how it compares to Eheim canisters and Fluval canisters. 👍🏼
I think I will make separate video for the filter itself and another for the comparison
It poops on those filters just by having a built in heater alone. Haha
Can you explain that? I don’t understand what you mean
Jurijs Jutjajevs I think THE PLANTED TANK answered it. Is it better than an Eheim or Fluval canister filter and if so, how do you think it is better? U
Personally, I'd take an Eheim pro filter over one of these Biomasters any day even though the quality of the Eheim pro has been going down slightly with the later revisions. The prefilter is done all wrong with very fine sponges and then you have coarser sponges inside which doesn't make any sense so you have to cut out your own prefilter sponges out of the sponges found in the filter unless you want it to clog up and lose flow pretty quickly. The trays have really flimsy quality plastic and it's a bitch putting it back together after cleaning. Also I've heard that the built in heater has issues going way above what you set it at, but I can't confirm that as I haven't used the heater because of that. Also very poor selection of biomedia that come with the filter. You don't put plastic media with basically no surface area inside a canister and call that biological media. Really cheap by Oase.
Four advantages over the Eheim. It has a really good and sturdy handle for carrying. It's easier to prime. It's cheaper. Built in heater. The Eheim also have multiple o-rings that needs lubing otherwise it will start to leak eventually, especially with the bigger models like the 2078 from my experience. Haven't had the Oase long enough to speak about leaking issues but so far so good. Also, you can't use the priming button too vigorously with the Eheim 2078 or it will start to leak.
Fine discovery sir, getting my first OASE 100 this week, thanks for the insightful tip. Would like to see a dedicated video as well!
Hi there Jurijs, absolutely brilliant discovery, so simple and saves so much time . Magic . Thank you so much for sharing . 👏👏👏👏👏👏
you welcome Terry, this is like tailor made content for you and your future aquarium 😉
Great tip but it does not help me. When are these filters coming to South Africa? Enjoy your videos
Oh sorry to hear they are not available for you. I don’t know this, please contact Oase customer support
My new aquarium has been running for just 2 days now. I am using Biomaster 250 Thermo. I have replaced the foam in the top 3 trays with Biohome ultra mini media. The bottom tray has medium foam & fine floss. Tank is now being cycled. Looking great so far. When the time comes maintenance in this filter should be short and sweet.
yes replacing some of the media for biological is a good choice
@@JurijsJutjajevs the heater is necessary if the room temperature does not fall below 22 in winter. I can buy the non thermo version much cheaper.
Don't rush with maintenance. 6 month intervals at least. Most of the gunk stays in the prefilter and main media stay clean for a long time.
Parabéns! Ajudou muito ao fazer a manutenção das mangueiras. Legal!
I did NOT know this! My 600 has just got even better. Thank you 👏
you welcome 🙏 😃
Hi Yurijs. I have had an Oase filter for two weeks and I discovered it immediately after unpacking 😂😉
haha 😆 so that's probably just me. but honestly, I talked to so many people and complained about not having this feature and no one was able to tell me about this feature
Thank you so much makes draining the hose so much easier 👍
You welcome
I must admit... I always remove the hoses and never clean that piece 😅... But now I will! Thanks for the tip
now you can keep the hoses on 😉
Does this feature also on the filtosmart series?
That’s the best tip yet,my 250 is due it’s 6month clean,I’ll certainly try this, nice one 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘would like to see you do an in depth review, the good and the bad,I’ve had mine 2 yrs,I think it’s a great filter 👏👏👏
glad to hear you have it for several years and you are happy with it
Thank you so much. You have the only video that I could find with installation for this piece. I fought with it for hours. No joke. The inner ring that you are turning was out of synch and I could not lock it down A slight twist and back to normal. Thanks again!
This is soooo weird!!! I would not have known but you ♥️ this. I did NOT write this post.
U r best ...you always give important information to us ..
you welcome and I'm happy this was useful for you
SO THATS HOW THEY DO IT. Thank you for the video!!!
The tank is looking 👌
after replant slowly growing in
Niiiiice trick there! Thanks! Another very small thing to love Oase even more now! Btw, video with more advices or pros and cons would be much appreciated! Looking forward, Jurijs!
anything specific to be covered in the review video?
Jurijs Jutjajevs sure.
* filter media order. The factory one seems to be illogical a bit.
* filter media choice in your setup. Did you keep the factory media? If not, what did you put and in what order?
* any tweaks that you made to improve filter performance?
* factory inlet/outlet review.
* pre-filter. Did you change anything there?
* anything I did not mention :)
For example I’ve removed one blue sponge, all the bio media (the plastic one) and changed it to ceramic rings; drilled some additional holes into the pre-filter pipe; changed pre-filter foam to more coarse (from blue to orange). My biggest concern is which OEM outlet is most effective on my 60x60x40cm cube where I’m keeping 10 lamprologus speciosus ;)
Best canister filters at this time ,one thing if it could be silent I would give it 10 out of 10 but I give it 9 out of 10
You absolutely right but the noice make fish stress and watching aquarium is not a joy all becouse the noice.I give it 6/10
Thank you!!! Mine got rotated when I was cleaning and I couldn't figure out why it wasn't real locking. Double hack!
Holy mother-effing molly! That's so simple and so helpful. That saves me so much bother. Like they say... The simple things in life are free. Thanks, Jurijs. That's a proper tip. I don't think i would have ever found that out for myself. Cheers sir.
omg Tass I'm so happy I'm not the only one who freaks out about it 😆
Wow, dass ist ja echt krass. Habe auch 2 und wäre nie auf die Idee gekommen, dass das geht bzw. habe mich immer gefragt wie dieser Mechanismus funktioniert. Vielen Dank für den Tipp 👍
immer gerne Mona
Jurijs - I love this filter too! Where did you get your clear tubing? Also lily pipes that fit the wide tubing?
Please please make a video about the Biomaster! I have one and would love to learn more about it. You put out a video about setting one up with different media, but if I recall, didn't go into detail. Seeing how the baskets should be stacked, ie which media should go where, would be really helpful! I watched that initial video several times about the Biomaster. Love mine, I always recommend them now.
Thanks 🙏 yes I will make that video
Indeed a very good filter and a good tip. IF you would set-up the filter with the in/out pies it came in the box, would you use the spray bar or the "lily pipe" end that for a 150l aquarium (70cmx50cmx45cm Lxlxh)? Thank you for your answer!
also nice when you need to drain the remaining water out of the tubing! cool find.
I loved this feature on Eheim prof 3/4 to drain water from aquariums for a quick water change
Thanks!
Great!
100% agreed. Amazing Hack, thank you!
Glad you like it!
This is great news thank you, for that tip 💯👍👍
Yes
I currently have a fluval 307 and it's amazing
what hose diameter does fluvial come with? they used to have a different size, which is why I never tried one
@@JurijsJutjajevs it's 17 mm, the hosing is the worst part of the filter, is kinda weird and cumbersome, but other than that it's a great filter, love your videos mate 👍
Thx 😊
you welcome
Great hack! One thing that did not know is that you also can use the same mechanism to control the out put flow from the pump. Adjusting the leaver from lock half way to unlock. Don't know it this is something that OASE does not recommend doing. But I have used it instead of using the Eheims Double Tap Connector which is used before to do this.
I would be very careful with this - because if you turn the valve too much, it can disconnect and leak . also by doing so you not only limit the outflow, but also the inflow to the filter which can cause vacuum in the canister, which can cause air getting sucked through the seal, which again can cause leaking. Always control the filter only on the outflow
nice i realized it since first start of this filter :P bcs for init lube of everything from rubber :) ps tip on prefilter also u can just rotate pre filter foam cover dont need to push taps to reveal foams, cheers
Yes please a full review I want to buy one. And how to fill it wich media etc etc
You are awesome! Greetings from Hungary! 🤗
One of my oase 350 filters Purge valves leaks when priming, is there any way of taking it apart and putting it right. Thanks for all your help.👍
quite practical advice, like
you welcome
lol cheers mate, this will mkae it so much easier to clean for me now
hehe, you welcome, I knew I wasn't the only one
Plz make a video on this filter and which filter is perfect for which tank
do you mean which Oase Biomaster is best for which tank size?
A detailed review of the filter will be awesome!
anything in particular I should cover?
I would like to hear your thoughts and experience on the below:
1. How reliable is it over a long period? More than a year or so..
2. I have read reviews where folks complain about the filter making purging noise often and also the heater not working consistently. Have you faced similar issues?
3. Are the prefilter holes sufficient enough or would you suggest drilling more holes?
4. Will one Biomaster 600 be sufficient for a 120P or will you recommend two?
Thank you!
A great Pro-Tip, what a insightful hack.
Getting clean hoses is a chore sometimes. This is an excellent fix. Do you have any suggestions on cleaning the tubing? Do you use just warm water?
As hikers, many of us use denture cleaners with enzymes to clean the tubing of CamelBak type hydration pack tubing. The tubing is cleaned with a spring brush then soaked in the enzyme solution to digest protein debris. Finally it is cleaned again with the spring brush and washed out with water. If this were done with aquarium tubing, I would probably rinse well and use a declorinator like SeaChem Prime as the last step. I would be interested on your experience and insight.
PS: You have the practical insight of an engineer. Keep your eyes open and brain analyzing. :)
I have the biomaster as well and think of upgrading to a aquael ultramax. Any comments or review about the ultramax?
Game changer!
😉
Eheim classic filters (I have a couple). I bought them over 20 years ago, and have yet to replace a single part. They have been in constant use and yet to leak. On top of the number of accessory options available and the "OG" of filter modifications. All in all, I'm going to have to wait for one of my Eheim filters to break before I switch to anything else.
Yep used your hack, but have noticed green aqua ect.. still push the side buttons for the prefilter chamber.. as per instructions you can just give it a little twist.. and it cover comes off
oh thats a good info, I'll try that
Will like to try this filter out
But wait onto my 2009 Ehiem breaks down
Great video
Great video
Good old Eheim can last many years 😉 if you really want, you can sell your Eheim and upgrade right away
almost 100k lets go!
🙌
The best filtr
we were at least two in the club of people who could be called silly .... good advise ! keep it up
haha 😆 I'm ok if people make jokes about me, its a fun hobby and I don't take it too seriously
Pls do a full review
But would that work if you haven’t disconnected the other ends of the hoses? I let and outlet at the tank end.
Aquael used exactly that type of quick connecter on their previous model and i can tell you that the sealing will soon wear out because of the friction when you turn it....
Jurijs is dabest! 👍
Nice simple fine 👍👊🏻. would love to see a more in-depth video about these filters I’m on the fence about getting one.
its hard to go wrong with these filters. Is there any specific questions you would like to see covered in the review video?
Jurijs Jutjajevs how would you adjust the flow on these filters I don’t see any valves I’m looking to put one on a 20 long.
Original Oase outflow pipes come with a flow control tap. If you replace with a lilypipe you don’t have it anymore. In this case you need a tap build into the Hose. One from eheim 😆
Jurijs Jutjajevs Thanks so much that’s what I though 👊🏻
Considering buying Biomaster 250. Do you know if the flow is adjustable? It's not clear on their website.
Can you disassemble the black hose connectors from the rotating adapter? One of these is leaking in my filter.
Never tried. I think it has to be replaced
Nice one. I have this filter too
what is the best you like about them?
The integrated heater is really nice for aesthetics, plus the prefilter is so easy to maintain
Great Filters I’m using a 250 thermo on a 60P and a 600 thermo on a 120P, but a little bit noisy.
I must be lucky, my filters are perfectly silent, unless some air is trapped inside from the skim pipe
Great tip! I’d like to hear more about the new filter media that you’re using from Korea. I forget the name. Is it holding up well? Does it clog quickly? Thanks!
Neo media from aquario. It works fine I guess. Difficult to measure how well its working compared to others. but I'm happy with it. The scape I'm using it has had no issues in the long run
would love a video. What to do inside...filer media wise etc etc
sure, be more specific about what you want to see in this video
@@JurijsJutjajevs how to fill it with wich media. Wich pre filter to use in wich situation. Use the full capacity of the filter for a smaller tank or putt a divider between.
how is the water oxygenized in this filter please?
Klasse Video 👍
Guter Tipp.
Nice video ! I am going to buy one of te oase filters for my 30L planted tank.
am I better of by buying the thermosmart 100 or a biomaster?
needs to be as quiet as possible =]
thanks
I think thermosmart is one to go for, as the Biomaster is too big and too strong for a 30l nano
Is Oase biomaster 350 suitable for 55 gallon aquarium??
It’s a good tip, but well worth heeding your warning of not forgetting to turn it closed again. I’ve had many a flooded carpet after forgetting
with this filter? it won't let you close the valve on the filter if the quick connector hasn't been moved back
Jurijs Jutjajevs yeah, but I’ve opened the valves before disconnecting the lily pipe and skimmer for a first hand lesson of how syphoning works.
Oh 🤣 welcome to the wet hands club 💦
Jurijs Jutjajevs 😂
Hai mate. I am planning to buy UV external filter for planted aquarium is it possible. How to save my bacteria. Thanks in advance 👍
Biomass 600 vs FX6 which is better ??
👋hello, Is it true thant you can regulate flow rotating it the same way? Thank you for sharing 👍
Just rotate the lock handle instead
@@JurijsJutjajevs thank you 🙏
thank you for your videos
a help I would like my dear ..
I have 60p ..what filter from oase would you suggest?
thank you in advance!!
Biomaster 250 of you want something big, or check the larger filtosmart series
@@JurijsJutjajevs Thank you with appreciation elias
great hack.
You can also control the flow of the filter right?? If you don’t unlock it all the way i think you can lower the flow so you don’t have to buy a control flow valve if you need it
exactly, it also mentioned in the manual
Thank you for all the tips and great videos
as a suggestion I think the music is too loud
thanks again
thank you, I will consider this
I don't want to be the one who gloats, but I have genuinely been doing this for a couple of years. lol Occasionally I do small water changes by putting a bucket under it and opening up the taps.
It's the same on a lot of canister filters, particularly Eheim models.
yes I know, I did the same with my old Eheim filters. They have a tap in the quick connector.
we would like to see a special video about the filter
An aqua scape store owner told me that you can regulate flow in the same way
Haha yeah I just never cleaned that part before 😅
Hi guys need urgent assistance I bought my firs Oase Biomaster thermo 250, connected it 100% as per the manual however there a knocking/clicking noise coming from the motor head, I bought my second Biomaster Thermo 250 cause the motor stopped working on my first one which I did not even get to use for 1 week. After connecting the second Biomaster Thermo 250 it makes the same noise knocking/clicking noise. I verified the South Africa Electricity outlet 230V and 50Hz. I bought my Biomaster Thermo 250 from Oase US which have 2 flat pins , I used the correct conversion plug but the filter still makes the same noise, So frustrated as I received my new Biomaster 3 days ago 21 Sep 2020
Omg! How/ why did I not think of this? I was always annoyed that I couldn’t clean that very last section. Have a 🍺 on me lol
haha 😆 cheers 🍻
Hallo Jurijs. I like to know the noise the filter make compare with Eheim filter.
Can you also do some review about the skimmer in this aquarium. Thanks. 👍🙂
the skimmer is a different topic. as for comparison I think its best to compare with Eheim prof 4 thermo, would you agree with that?
Yes, no problem. I like a good filter but also very quiet.
The early bird catches your video! ;D
good morning : ☀️ 😉
@@JurijsJutjajevs Hehe, perhaps a bit late to wake up xD
Btw. The Video is great as always, really helpfull! I think I'll upgrade my bad gunky Superfish xPro 400 because it is so ANNOYING!😂
The Eheim Classic 250 ln the other tank is great, but no thermo function unfortunatly😰
I love the eheim classics, but they don’t have any features
@@JurijsJutjajevs That's true! So I think I'll be very happy with an Oase or so!💪
Hey jurijs, not long purchased the 600 thermo but getting a weird noise from it time to time I’m guessing there isn’t normally any weird noises normally from these filters ?? Cheers
Are you cleaning prefilter regularly? In case you dont underpressure builds up and can be filled with air which can cause the noise
@@JurijsJutjajevs well I’ve found out it was the heater when turning on n off what was making the noise it’s really weird noise but called oase today and they confirmed it was normal still don’t understand if it’s “normal” why is it that some people get it and others don’t thou, never mind thanks anyways 👌🏻👍🏻
Hello Jurijs,
First, I want to say that I appreciate your work.
After seeing the video with ADA SUPER JET filter, I've decided to sell my Oase Biomaster Thermo 350.
Now, I have a big dilema, after this video. Should I buy a ADA filter, or buy another Oase biomaster?
Can you make a comparison betwen those two filters, because you use them both, or give any advice, about wich one is the best.
Thanks!
they are both good filters. Oase has a build in heater and prefilter, while ADA is build to last and has power that kind of never stops. Its very hard to compare both as they are completely different. Also price is different. it really depends what is more important for you.
My Oase Bio Master Thermo 600 has a super slow flow rate, it's 0.75 gallons a minute. I changed the head and it still has the same rate.
there are videos about drilling additional holes in the inner prefilter tube to raise flow.
Hi, I’ve got a 350 and it leaks from the quick release handles for the pre filter and pipes. I have changed the rubber seal, but no joy. I would appreciate any advice. Cheers
There is nothing I can suggest, please contact your local Oase dealer
You could try using clear silicone grease with PTFE on all of the rubber gaskets.
Heey I want to get a ext 250l filter which one is quietest filter so I can use it in my bedroom? Can you do a video testing the quietest 250l filter brand that would be awesome you can measure with db meter ✌️
No filter is the quietest.
Single models can vary, a simple test with only one filter of each wouldn’t be accurate.
@@JurijsJutjajevs how is the oase bio 250 can you sleep in the same room if its about 40m2 and to not bother you while sleeping?
Can you help me the flow has reduced a lot and i don’t know why my aquarium is 80 gallons and it seems not enough for my fish thanks 🙏
I bought it last week for my ada60p i used an eheim 150 experience, but anytime the maintainance was a mess, also no more heater shown!! The only thing is the size of the hoses , quite big i had to change my lily pipe, at least the inlet. Is there a pro tib to fit the smaller hoses on the filter? Thanks
you can use the a 16/22-12/16 adapter for a smaller outlet, inflow should remain original size
Jurijs Jutjajevs thanks!!
Do you have any recommendations about the airbubbles?
Not really, what I’ve observed over the years that same filter is having more issues in one tank and less in another. So partially that’s bubbles from the water and partially from bacteria inside filter. The newer models of the biomaster have a little feature build into reduce the amount of trapped air, but I have heard users still having issues despite this feature. All in all, it’s annoying when you focus on it, but it doesn’t harm neither the filter nor the aquarium system as a whole. Other filters have other problems, in the end its matter of choosing what features you like and accepting the downsides of the respective filter
@@JurijsJutjajevs Many complaints about loosing the injected co2 because of the air bubbles in planted aquariums.
biomaster purping issue has no effect on CO2 inside aquarium imo, its just annoying to hear the sound and see an occasional burst of bubbles, but its nothing compared to a skimmer or proper aeration
Dedicated filter video please 🙏
