It’s great to see her being restored. I surveyed her for a perspective buyer about 45 years ago. She had a stunning butternut wood interior and I hope that it has survived.
Doris which was built in 1905 by Herreshoff is the best of classic yachts. It is great to see these old boats being rebuilt. Good Luck in getting the job done.
I was the Captain and project Manager for the re-rigging and restoration of Herreshoff's Mariette in Italy in 1995. Mariette was launched in 1915. Her Herreshoff construction number was 772. Mariette was converted to a Marconi staysail schooner rig in 1949 with permanent backstays. I was responsible for getting the original drawing from the Hart museum at MIT and restoring her to her original gaff rig. I had wooden patterns made for all of her deck and new rigging hardware. All parts were sand cast in nickel aluminum bronze ( better known as AB2 ). I redesigned the inboard and outboard gaff end fittings. I had all her masts and spars built by Harry Spencer in the UK. We raced her in the Classic Yacht regattas in France and Italy.
You’re living out my passion…if I were ever willing to pack up shop and pursue my ideal aspirations , it would be to build traditionally inspired, wooden sailing yachts. …possibly with a few discreet refinements, and still retain that incredible organic feel that makes these yachts so dear… I live in New Orleans where wooden sailboat shipwrights are scarce or non existent … I think I may have a very fitting term for Your concept…” Organic technology”… i promise that my agent won’t sue you if you decide to use it… Perhaps one day I will fulfill my vision of a concept for a build that’s been swirling around in my head and in many sketches for a few years… Thank you for needed inspiration!…
PLEASE post more of this beautiful restoration project!!

A portion of it survived. The restoration was "gifted" back the carved cupboard doors from a past owner.
