- In this video, I review a prism product for photographers called "Fractals"! I show you each one, test them out in a photoshoot situation and let you know my final thoughts!
NOTE: This video WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT SPONSORED in any way shape or form. I bought this on my own because I wanted to review it.

“My fbi agent recommended it to me” HAHAHA
I thought I heard it wrong!! 😂
Brandon you should do a collab with Jessica using this item
I was about to say let brandon use those, but I saw your name already 😂
I still waiting your 58mm 1.4g! You dont need it anymore because of 24-70 ML :)
Lmao... I had to go back because I thought I heard her wrong! Bahahahaa 😂🤣💯
When she said "we're going broke in this community" i felt that.
Try being a car photographer. Double no money
so weird, this week i was looking to buy one, then u posted this. do we have the same fbi agent?
grey lol
where did you buy them from
its one fbi agent who's on the fractals payroll
The answer without watching the video is NO it's not worth buying EVER!!!!
dammit jared!! get your boomified contrasty ass outta here!!! lmao jk love your videos man...been a subscriber for YEARS
Ganda Jared caralho 😍
Yeah, I think my opinions on shooting through prisms is where I am finally starting to show my age.
@@diogopedro1991 mais portugueses aqui ? ahahahaha
@@AntJoseph_ sim, vimos aqui para saber o que não fazer enquanto fotógrafos xD
*Jessica pulls out prism stuff to review*
Me thinking: "I feel like she should do this review with Brandon... Both sides of the prism world there" xD
Fractal Filters have been super popular in the music photography community for, I'd say, roughly two years. For myself, I find they really help with visual noise in images in live music photography.
Oh. And I recently went on a flight, and yes, they definitely flagged them and I had to explain and show them why I use them. Hahaha.
How do you use them to help with noise in concert photos? I’ve been shooting for a bit, and I’d love to know how you use them to your advantage
@@heatherfaith2750 I want to clarify i mean visual noise, not grain/noise. I like to use them to frame the subject and get things such as guitar necks getting in the frame, or if there's someone playing behind whoever i am focused on I'm able to essentially take them out of the frame by using the fractals to create a whole other effect on where they were supposed to be. I realize this it's also a little hard to type in form of verbalization as well. If you do want to take a look at what i mean for examples my Instagram is the same as my youtube handle. Feel free to message me so i can clarify further if you would like!
i think if they plopped a magnifying glass handle instead of the battle weapon theme it'd be x10 easier to hold and maybe even seem more sturdy
THIS
Looks like a good weapon

I really would like to see more videos like this! I mean about photograpghy props or just some inspiration. That would be helpful i think. Also really enjoyed this vid! x
can you do a challenge with the prop as an EGG?
Absolutely love that 4th shot 🥰. Your review is so thorough, great job! Totally with you on the weight in my bag thing. Also, my first impression was glass knuckles in case you need to throw down with someone trying to rob your camera!
I have used these types of things before, its easier to put the camera on a tripod that way you can balance the prism or object easier. They are fun to play around with, I can see senior pictures, engagements photos and maybe at a wedding after all the "required" photos are taken.
I have to agree with some of the other commenters they do look like nice weapons.
Personally I may buy myself a set of them, I kind of miss the creative side of photography using filters and light painting or cutting out shapes for creative bokeh shots.
They are about $100.00 on Amazon.
Your videos are fine. You’re creative and constantly getting better with your photography. You’re also unnecessarily hard on yourself.
Lastly, I’m totally jacking your ideas about “X photographers shoot the same model” and “edit the same image”. Peace!
Who needs friends with 1.3 million subscribers! Although you can’t really hang out with all of us... but at least you can mail the postcard to one of us! 😁
The rectangular half circle one is my favorite of the three. It adds subtle dynamic effects to a subject that is centered in the image. I use it primarily at concert venues with bright lighting above and behind the musician when the artist is standing at a microphone and not really moving around to get an extra layer of pop in the shot.
That prismatic look is so 1970s, and the brass-knuckle handle is for the birds. Better to mount it to a flex clamp or something. I do like the blur/flare look from the square one. But no way I'm ordering this after reading the horror stories in the comments about the seller. I think I'll find a regular prism and try that.
You should do a video on different ways Photographers can send photos to their clients. Sometimes for beginners it can be tough on how to decide how to send them because some programs kill the quality.
I always just took my lens out and held it a few centimeters away from the aperture and wiggle it around at a slight angle.
I call it lens wacking. it gave me some fun times while shooting video too. i should play with that again.
Instead of holding the grip with the holes in front and below your lens, try holding the grip sideways. In front and below your lens seems like it would be kind of awkward to hold. But maybe holding it sideways might feel a little more sturdy. Just a thought.
Could always go to hobby lobby or a decorative place that sells the fake decor diamonds. i got mine for way cheaper than that and putting them in front of the lens works the same way! can also use chandelier glass pieces.
I love the concept of the video but I would have loved to have seen you use it on a shoot and review it properly. I know you added a few photos in but to have a small video of you using it on shoot and playing around with it a little more. Giving an accurate review of it having been used instead of an off the mark review using it directly at the camera
omg I was waiting to buy these with my next paycheck & I’m so glad you did this!!!! the timing of this video was PERFECT
ROFLMAO when you said " you gonna stop by a TSA and you will not going on this flight Jessica!" ROFLMAO I can't wait you! you crack me up!
also when you said "my FBI Agent recommended it to me" had me stopped my tracks and burst in to LMAO!
Thanks for the video on that. I didn't know exactly how I came across fractal lens at the end of last year but I loved the effect so much that I remember it all the time and want it to my birthday (jan 19th). When I tell my parents that this would be a great gift for me, my mum starts googling this things and read a loooot of bad story's about this company or owner (not arriving, no refund etc). So I decided to not want that glas.. And alone because of this ridiculous price (for germany plus 15$ shipping). But I love this effect still, it looks sooo pretty. I don't know why there is no exactly alternative for prisms.
I use these for portraits and live concerts. They're awesome!
Also, I used the "lighter" prisms not these bulky ones.
You look great in your video!!! Just remember: you don’t have to be beautiful, just be yourself. Your audience (us)will always be there for you !
I ordered a set of Fractals last year, they never came even if it said “shipping in process” and 2 months past and I kept trying to get ahold of the owner. The owner was hard to contact and to finally give me a refund after they lied about it being shipped out when it never did to begin with.
So may people with the same issues. That's really fucked up.
may i know where you're from? just bought it yesterday now im scared 😨
*updates* i actually received the fractals! from the US to malaysia only took like 5 days.
I think these prisms are good background effects when pointed to the sunlight 😍
Those pictures were so amazing. I feel like you underestimate yourself and your talent and what you’re able to do. You’re awesome hun.
That first demo really sold it. I might almost overlook the "brass-knuckles" handle.
I’ve owned these since the Kickstarter and the brass knuckles are super super handy. And you get used to them.
Not sure how useful they’d be, the knuckles, for a fashion photographer. But for a wedding photographer, they’re the end all be all.
Super cool raw first impression! I think it’s so cool that you used it on an actual shoot before just giving a review! Maybe to give it a better shot or to get some inspiration you can organize a “4 photographers shoot the same model” type of video just to see what others come up with and to get their reactions on it too!
It's a shame that can't be mounted on a lightstand/bracket. From a strobist perspective, they could useful to do some crazy patterns of light...
Send that postcard to the company with the link to the video ;)
I would be so down for this! Surprised you don't have an affiliate link in the description.
Perhaps you might want to send light, diffused light or Colour light through the glass. Could create a cool effect on a background, back light etc
Wow this video is amazing, I love your photography, Jessica
Thank you so much! 😊
£100 what??! Can get way cheaper similar ones on EBay!
Really? When I searched on this few month ago, I didn't find annny similar alternative. '-'
I'm definitely interested if you find / found them I have looked a few times for a dupe!
@@elliej261 look up 6 star filter, multi-image filter, kaleidoscope filter, fractal filter on google. $20
I understood you just fine when you spoke Arabic. And I'm not even from Lebenon, so I don't know that dialect.
Hi Jessica! I think I saw you getting those last year at WPPI. Thanks for the honest review. I feel the same way about those now as I did then. They are just not my style. But I will say that the build quality and the packaging is done very well. If someone asked me about them I would definitely recommend them .... just not for myself. Thanks again Jessica!!
I think the handles are so that you can hang it over the top of the lens. It’s would be much more comfortable. I sat here trying to figure out how they intended them to be used lol and that is the most comfortable way.
I thought you could use a flashlight or something to cast a light on the prism. Did you try that?
Great video! I love all your photos and videos!!👍👍👍👍👍😀😀😀😀😀🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼🌼
Just got mine...so excited!!
Lmao Jess your inner gangser makes you hold it like brass knuckles. Flip it upside down 😂
I think the purpose of the ring is that you don’t get your finger prints on it when your hands aren’t clean
Are you my FBI agent? I was literally looking at these all week and talked about to my friend who is also a photographer literally YESTERDAY! I want some for concert photography! I’ve noticed some photographers using them for live shows and they look neat.
I totally agree with you - you should get a photography glass ball
My dad a had a box of filter lenses for his camera that he could just stick on.. he had a few different lenses that basically did this exact thing...
very nice review. I discovered the first round one with Neil Redfern and i wondered which look we could do with two others. I think I also prefer the round one.
I appreciate and respect the the review. But I think that by using natural light, you're not doing this product any justice. Theres much better ways to use the fractals when used with flash.
just bought it yesterday. hope it arrived well!
*update* it arrived!! omg took less than a week! and im loving it.cant wait to play with it soon
I would check out the Hoya vintage filters they have some great ones that have cool effects 😊
I have a question, is it acceptable to travel with a prism on a carry on?
They look mega hefty for something I wanna put in my bag. I'll stick to my mini prism. Nice idea I guess....not sold on the knuckle duster handle though
I do alot of street photography and sometimes I get messages from companies with Fractals or Spheres but just can't get into it =p I mean the images are fun and all but...I don't want to rely too much on them
do more of these reviews! id love to hear honest reviews about things like lenses, filters, tripods, etc!!!!!!!!
I think it'd be fun to have this accessory to play with, but I feel like maybe I could find something similar at a lower price point!
With how heavy they look and that you get three in there, they look like really nice quality. I would probably buy it 🤷🏼♀️
I almost bought this set, and I’m glad I didn’t. I bought 2 much cheaper prisms and I’ve been very happy with them. Light weight and barely notice the extra items in my bag.
5:17 P A C M A N
omg you looked like Keira Knightley for a moment with the gridded lens!
Love this review! I have these for music photography & found out about them at a show. I really like the Pacman one tbh... I wrap it in something else other than the huge bag they give you. The other ones are kinda extra and bulkier.... just to give another 2 cents I like the "brass knuckles" design but I feel like I only pull these out a few times once in a while to get a unique shot.
Weaknesss nahhh u have skills ❤️ and I love it
Hello Jessica! Do you speek Arabic? I thought I heard you do! I'm moroccan and I'm one of your big fans!
Just got my First camera! I am so happy😁😁😁
I agree... The prism makes more sense.
Oh, you talk Arabic - surprise - didn't know that! :) Anyways, i like your videos! And i love your looks and seeing your face a hundred times in a prism! 😉
I think the filter set is much better with the articulating arm mount.
What metering mode do you usually use? I have a 6d and use the evaluative metering mode, but I can’t seem to understand when and more important HOW the spot metering should be used. Could you please share some insights? I would be really grateful. :)
The 2nd one is my fave!
ok that stuff is WEIRD. definitely not my style of photography...
but glad to see you show it to us, so i know before having to try myself :D
And it doubles as knuckle rings!!! Try to mess with a female photographer now! 😂
do more videos like this one !!!!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this Jessica! Thank you for your honest opinion 😀, was helpful. Love your channel! 😘
2:40 that was right and so good 🔥 I’m from syria and you’re perfect in arabic language 😃🔥👌🏻....
والله ماعم اعرف احكي بس عم اجرب 😂🔥...
أعتقد عائلتها من لبنان
She is Lebanese.
Can you make a video on how to scope out locations for pictures?
Love you Jessica ❤️❤️❤️
Brandon got you all into prisms now lol
"I have like two friends" LMAO MOOD
Hey all, just learned about all the controversy here. Thanks Jessica for helping us find people who we've lost touch with; there was a time when I was trying to manage everything myself and a lot fell through the cracks. Big mistake, and I've been doing my best to fix it. Now, we respond to email and facebook messages daily; I don't think we miss any, so if you haven't gotten your filters, kindly send me an email at nikk@getfractals.com and we can get the filters or a refund sent to you promptly. I hate seeing businesses screw people over, don't want anyone feeling that way, please get in touch! thanks 🙂
who is that guy ohh my my ..
you should hold it sideways like how you hold a coffee mug like how your hand is in your "preferred" way to hold it instead of from underneath.
Glad you found a cool product to use and review for us! I like watching makeup videos as well as photography videos, and you're right--makeup "hauls" and unboxings are much easier to come by than photography gear. Expensive makeup is like a little over a hundred dollars for one luxury product... expensive lenses are like... $1,300 to $10,000 for one lens. *starts laughing* *laughing dissolves into tears after 10 seconds* Though at the same time, I'm willing to spend $1000+ on a lens (and I have a few times at this point in my photography journey), but I have yet to spend over $20 on a single makeup product.
I actually just recently bought those!!!
Did you get yours yet? Because Nikk, the guy how sells them, is a total scam.
LMAO! "like who wants to see more than one of my face?!" LMAO!
I own these and love them
Tina Eisen did some awesome work with these recently.
Please put in closed captions for your videos!!
The grid one was kinda cool
Do these work with dslr crop censor. I have a canon sl3 (250D)
Amooo seus vídeos amo suas fotos maravilhosas ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😍🔥
This was super helpful for those of us who can't afford the 100 bucks lmao thanks Jessica always looking out for us!
I love your videos... specially how your voice tone goes from sexy phone operator to the dorkiest girl in class that could care less about everyone’s opinion
I have a tear drop one from Amazon. Cost me $8. I think they are really cool
I bought on wish and it is amazing
On wish? The same exact same thing? 🤔 I don't think so.
@@verenhimoinen not the exact same thing but the prism and it gave me the same if not better effect.
@@Anchy58 do you have a link?
i got visual asmr when you were demo-ing the fractals in front of the lens lol
AWESOME....JESSI
Thank You!
