While I watch this walkthrough of anniversary expansion of 30 y.o. Doom, I never cease to be amazed how One can create completely of old and familiar parts something new, memorable, fully in original's spirit and thus loved by all Doom fans. A precious lesson and inspiring example. 🧔🏻❤️🙏🏻
Shit, it feels so surreal to play actual fresh Doom in 2023. Fun times are back. P. S. It's not so much of a secret, but you haven't opened that huge concealed area to the east (or 3 o'clock), which you can see if you collect area map. I don't know how to get there without cheats, so thought maybe I would see it in your video.
@@pagb666 Part of the reason I was confused about shooting the wall faces is I assumed I had missed a teleporter over there after I collected the area map.
Oh man... thanks for the walkthrough. Having to pick up that large energy Cell at 12:30 is just terrible design. I love Romero and Sigil II is an extremely awesome thing to have but it sure has a few ... questionable ... design choices! The other is progressing through shooting sigils. Yes, the mechanic is introduced and it's clear that it's expected but it still means there is a chance a player wastes all of their ammo before noticing the sigil and simply not being able progress to the end. I usually spare large Items for picking up at the end of the level or only when I really need them. even with the Automap I simply couldn't progress because I never picked up that energy cell at this point and I seriously walked around the level for 30 minutes not knowing what to do.
I think there's something wrong with my GZDoom config. At first I thought Romero was being an d*** by making all his maps extremely dark, but after seeing your gameplay it's clear there's a lot of missing textures. Could it be the fact I'm using the Doom 2 WAD? Besides that, I'm only using DSD remake weapons and Voxel Doom, which shouldn't affect the level.
Thats what I was thinking i was running around the whole level trying to find a switch or something and eventually i just gave up and watched this video

There is one of those areas in every level. They're deathmatch arenas for multiplayer.

Having to shoot the faces after fighting the clutch of Barons is a bit poorly signposted.
