It took a couple of times seeing it to realize Leon purposely didn't go straight out through the cops, and went the way he did because he sensed Stansfield would know who he was, and he would lead Stansfield straight to him rather than going after Mathilda. He knew he could get Stansfield alone. He had to know Stansfield was behind him, because he had to have already had his finger through the grenade pin before he was shot to be able to pull it on his way to the ground. He planned all of it in advance to kill Stansfield and himself in a way that would bring closure from the police, and to keep Mathilda safe from anyone coming after her. What really got me thinking about it is the thought that, if he had no clue Stansfield would find him, and getting shot was a total blindside, there is no way he would have had the presence of mind after being surprised with a shot in the head, that it was Stansfield, and that he should pull the grenade pin. He knew all along, lured him in to a trap, and was ready to spring it.
Maybe what you're saying is true, but I think it would be better to describe it as a fail safe and that his goal was to escape. He could have his finger through the pin in case he was found. At first I was like ... that's the longest 5 second delay I've ever seen ... and then I realized that his vest is holding the grenade spoon in place and the 5 second countdown doesn't start until Oldman opens the vest, and then it's exactly 5 seconds.
while that would be cool in some ways it would also massively undo the whole point of the Leon's sacrifice. He wanted Matilda to have a normal life. Leon would be devastated if she became an assassin like him.
Same. I d have liked to see at least some sort of thin wire that would fuze those granades as soon as Leon took his hand off Standfield. Not to mention, the grenades didnt look like the explosive type. Yeah, I know its autistic to think too much about a film, when in this case, its more about the plot and the ideas it tries to convey.
It has to be said, that Natalie Portman being 12 years old and still matching the acting quality of the likes of Jean Reno and Gary Oldman is mind blowing.
The music that starts at 4:24...must be an early version of "The Experience of Love," a song that Eric Serra (the composer) featured for the end credits of Goldeneye.
3:20 When I was a kid, I often wondered how anyone could survive on just $100 a month, particularly in the US where the cost of living is high. It wasn't even feasible in Colombia, where I live.
Considering Leon probably had hundreds of thousands of dollars set aside for her (if not millions) it always pissed me off that he started off by giving her $100. Trust me that wasn't that much even back then.
5 - 7 seconds (ish) There is also an audibly click as the primer is hit, and ( yes I know its Hollywood) grenades going off are a nasty flat crack, no billowing flames, just a crack and lots of evil bits of wire whizzing through the air.
I want a follow up film Leon 2. Where the NP character has become a stone cold hit woman with mad skills that rival Agent47. I would watch the hell out of that movie. As a side note Leon got me into milk and tinted shades. 2 of the best decisions of my life.

The grenade delay is usually 4 seconds. This can be modified, usually to a smaller extent, by shortening the wick. But here, apparently Leon, on the contrary, sheathed himself with a good meter-long piece of Bickford cord.
There's so much about the ending that I love and hate. The part that's always bothered me was, why wasn't Leon more careful leaving the building? Like, the guy lived in the shadows. Why did he think he could just skip out the building? And, if that was their first encounter, the cop took a big risk killing a guy that could have been anyone else other than Leon.
The thing that bothered me was that they didnt even change living place after that. They just went home and go to sleep like nothing happened. I understand that they were found because of Tony, he probably told the cops where they lived. But I thought he should consider moving to another safer place immediately after that.
I was so sad he died 😔 really didn't want that to happen. But the point of the movie was finding peace and I'm not sure that would've happened having to look over their shoulder. That being said, I'd still be open to it through movie magic had he lived

At first I was like ... that's the longest 5 second delay I've ever seen ... and then I realized that his vest is holding the grenade spoon in place and the 5 second countdown doesn't start until Oldman opens the vest, and then it's exactly 5 seconds.
still waiting for a sequel when Miltida all grown up and kick ass
We all are!
There's no direct sequel to this movie, but there's a spiritual sequel using the defunct script intended to be Leon's sequel called Colombiana.
What?... You haven't seen John Wick?😀
Unfortunately Natalie Portman lost all of her acting ability after Black Swan
while that would be cool in some ways it would also massively undo the whole point of the Leon's sacrifice.
He wanted Matilda to have a normal life. Leon would be devastated if she became an assassin like him.
Natalie's best film so far.
Excellent End Credit song by Sting. Shame it was cut from the end of this video, but YT and copyright reasons I guess. ☹️
Great Film!
Very sad story :(
Every time I drink a glass of Milk! think of Both! Leon Matilda ...And that freaking Plant! Hahaha!😂
The music is amazing
Longest grenade fuses ever.
That always bothered me
▪️
It was customized to last that long. He bought it from Avril Lavigne.
🧊
Now they are not making that kind of movies any more.
The good old days of movies.
"SHIT!" is sooooo appropriate!
The song during the credits at the end was perfect for then end of this movie
It has to be said, that Natalie Portman being 12 years old and still matching the acting quality of the likes of Jean Reno and Gary Oldman is mind blowing.
A sequel really isn't needed. Would we really want to see her as a hit woman? Leon and Mathilda learned to love life and trust.
This is a great movie!
I really like the end of the movie.
How Matilda telling what her facing in the pasting days
The music that starts at 4:24...must be an early version of "The Experience of Love," a song that Eric Serra (the composer) featured for the end credits of Goldeneye.
Gari Oldman.
Amazing.
I cried for Leon ❤😢
2:11 There’s something oddly comic about this “shit…” in such a powerful moment
LOL it's because he could have yelled, but he probably popped some pills shortly before
@@a.edwardsnycta5785
He WAS a junkie (the character, I mean)… so you make a good point. 😁
The handler was cheating Leon. Leon is a loyal trusting person to those he felt he could trust
Such a magnificent film just wish to the DVD (1994) that there was an alternative ending and Léon survived
Hell of a delay on those grenades…..normally about 5 seconds isn’t it?
Timer doesn't start until the spoon is released. You can hear it release when he opened the jacket.
5 - 7 seconds (ish) There is also an audibly click as the primer is hit, and ( yes I know its Hollywood) grenades going off are a nasty flat crack, no billowing flames, just a crack and lots of evil bits of wire whizzing through the air.
Plus you’d hear the firing pin popping and the spoon flying off. It’s just a movie though and a good one at that. Don’t over think it
@@totenfurwotan4478 You can hear those when the jacket is opened. That's what I was saying. Do you not read other replies before you respond or what?
"Shat" I'm dead 😆😂
I want a follow up film Leon 2. Where the NP character has become a stone cold hit woman with mad skills that rival Agent47. I would watch the hell out of that movie. As a side note Leon got me into milk and tinted shades. 2 of the best decisions of my life.
It would be a let down and desecrate the first movie
@@nicho-uyx1287 Although I am ever the optimist. The chances of most people "Starwarsing the s**t out of it" Is depressingly high. I will more than happily acknowledge that. There are currently too many child hood film corpse's to mention....
Mi película favorita la e visto muchas veces y seguiré muchas más
The grenade delay is usually 4 seconds. This can be modified, usually to a smaller extent, by shortening the wick. But here, apparently Leon, on the contrary, sheathed himself with a good meter-long piece of Bickford cord.
Spoon didn't come off until Stansfield opened the vest.
@@guidolyons4912 Nice try to justify the moment, but considering the type of grenades...Moreover, it is a fictitious type.
Shape of My Heart - ❤️
I knew of this one, but they also played experience of love. It was also in goldeneye.
I love this movie ❤❤❤❤
Luc Besson brilliance
There's so much about the ending that I love and hate. The part that's always bothered me was, why wasn't Leon more careful leaving the building? Like, the guy lived in the shadows. Why did he think he could just skip out the building? And, if that was their first encounter, the cop took a big risk killing a guy that could have been anyone else other than Leon.
The thing that bothered me was that they didnt even change living place after that. They just went home and go to sleep like nothing happened. I understand that they were found because of Tony, he probably told the cops where they lived. But I thought he should consider moving to another safer place immediately after that.
Old Tony’s famous kind streak, $100 a month 😂
Sequel with Mathilda, please!
I was so sad he died 😔 really didn't want that to happen.
But the point of the movie was finding peace and I'm not sure that would've happened having to look over their shoulder.
That being said, I'd still be open to it through movie magic had he lived
I was so rooting for Leon at the end..
I felt that "Sh*t" 😂
Natalie portman forever in my heart❤
Gary Oldman made this great.
Oscar, the famous Price, should be renamed « Gary ».
