Booked a flight to Thailand for 30 days in November excited but anxious as never traveled solo before and never been anywhere out of Europe. Thanks for the video 🤞
Thailand was also the first country I traveled solo, you’ll be fine! Feels a little bit weird being all by yourself in the beginning but you learn a lot about yourself in the process. November is a great time to visit, enjoy!
@@OGFRANKIESAX I’m looking to bounce around and definitely wanted to visit the southern islands I was only planning to stay in Bangkok for 3 days and then go on to wherever after but south looks nice and north also looks nice for the yipeng festival which I would like to see but yeah just want to go and see some beautiful places! When are you going?
So far, your recommendations have been the best I've seen! With the help of this video, I found a nice hotel (reviews seemed fair) in the downtown area that is well within my budget for my 4-day stay. Thanks!
We've just come back from Thailand, we spent around 7 days in Bangkok either side of trips to Hanoi and Phuket. We originally looked at Sukhumvit but ended up staying close to Khao San Road. I'm glad we did as there seemed to be more tailored to what we were looking for. We visited Sukhumvit and whilst there were plenty of bars, it had more of a built-up city feel. We are in our 50's and certainly not party animals, the Khao San Road area appeals to all and there are more upmarket hotels if you're not a backpacker. We stayed at the Dewan, a nice hotel with a good pool, 1 min to to Khao San Road and depending on where your room is, reasonably quiet at night. There are decent options a little further away and on the river should you like a little more peace and quiet. We were close to bars and nightlife and walking distance to the river for easy access to attractions, temples, China town and transport links. The metered taxis and Grab options are pretty cheap should you wish to use that option to get to railway stations or other parts of the city.
Super super helpful!! I’ll be traveling to Thailand this November (2023) and this helps out a lot! It’s a nice mix of locations that you recommended and I’m not a big partier or anything but also a few nights won’t hurt lol. Loved this video!
@@allisongous4221 haha. Yea I’m just not sure what non-party hostels there are but also if I do a non-party hostel, are they still social? I'm heading there in less then a couple of weeks. Thinking of doing a few nights over Kaos Road then a couple of nights in Sukhumvit area so i don't have to suffer transport to much
I prefer to stay around Chatuchak. Sukhumvit is a busy and seedy. Chatuchak market and park, plus the cool areas of Ari, saphan khwai, and all the malls in Ladprao all make for a more relaxed Bangkok experience
Robert, I enjoy watching you videos in my country, Thailand! Believe it or not! If you plan to stay in Thailand for a longggggg longgggg time, learn how to speak and communicate with Thai people in Thai language, will make everything much easier!
Great and informative video. But….your prices are waaaaaay off. As an avid Marriott traveler, I’ve stayed in each property that Marriott owns in BKK, the average is closer to $200usd a night. I’ve been there 23 times over the past 18 years. Never below 161 a night
Thank you! Mariott is a very exclusive hotel and is definitely on the pricier side. There’s plenty of mid-tier hotels in Sukhumvit that’s more affordable. However, they of course don’t offer the same standard as a 5-star hotel like Mariott.
Great info! Looking to travel to BKK soon. Looking to be near shopping and great street foods. What area is near? Video is a month old,, and you’re sweating. Is it hot there right now?
The video was recorded in july, hence why I was sweating- winter months are not as humid. Sukhumvit gives you a little bit of everything and you’re also close to many of the major night markets that have great street food
For the language barrier how big is it please? Although my uni is thought In English and has a lot of foreign students I could associate with but I wanna be able to experience Thai land and it’s culture as well as mingle with the locals
Generally, the younger generation are more fluent in english compared to the older one but at the end of the day, it really depends from person to person. I’ve met people my age that speaks great english but I’ve also met people, again, my age, who barely spoke a word of english. Usually they’re pretty decent at english if they live/work in or close to the city centre (eg. Sukhumvit) since they speak english a lot there because of the tourists. Uni students in Bangkok seems to speak somewhat decent english in general.
Definitely a great alternative to Sukhumvit and Siam. A little bit more calm than those areas but still good alternatives for restaurants, shopping, accommodation options etc. Also close access to the BTS and MRT.
Thanks for content. Right now I am in Pattaya but I will be going to Bangkok for an extended stay. Siam and Sukhumvit (soi 23) are the 2 areas I concentrating on
First trip to Bangkok October 3 thru 10th. I hate to reserve the whole trip in case I dont like the hotel I pick. Will there be any problem finding another hotel, and are prices good on walkup? Anyone answering, thank you!!!
Long Ago there was a Travel Agency called Asia Travel which showed you hotels Available by different sections of Bangkok. For those of you who have never been to Bangkok the best choice is to have your hotel pick you up from the Airport especially if you are a woman traveling alone. If you are traveling from the USA you won’t arrive until 11 pm. The airport is quite a distance from Bangkok. Your hotel wants your money. They will have a sign with your name on it as you emerge from immigration. My wife was born in Thailand and this is the method she prefers for personal safety.
best area to stay in BKK is from soi 22 and across Sukhumvit road upto soi 59, many bars and restaurants and hotel options, soi 22 itself is a microcosim of restaurant and hotel options , its about 1km long
Will you explain what soi 22 and soi 59 mean for my American Googling self? What should I put in maps to find the area that you are talking about? Thanks.
Where can I find cheap area in bangkok. I don't need fancy stores. I'm looking for a area that has day/ night markets daily thats walking distance. My wife loves that " fleemarket " vibe. Street hawker/food cart type of area with some mosque near. We stayed in the talat phlu area which was nice however we got tired of walking 15mins to the train station. Any suggestions I can research?
Take a look around BTS Rachathewi station (one station away from Siam). There is a mosque at Petburi soi 5 (or 7) and lot of street food in both sois. There are also a lot of apartments and condominiums for rent in that area. The rent could be around 5000-8000THB or more for an apartment. The condominium could be around 20K++
