- I'm always on the lookout for cheaper alternatives to the mainstream tools and products so when I decided I wanted a car dryer I went to eBay!
In this video I show you how a £50 pet dryer performs and question how different it is to a £150 device marketed at car enthusiasts.

Brilliant idea , I'm gonna order 20 rebrand them as car dryers and knock em out for £100 👍
Great idea McSpecky 👍
Great video I have one of those and works great 👍🏼
Had one of these on my ebay watch list for ages......you've made my mind up! 👌👍❤
Hope you enjoy it!
Just been looking at those on ebay. Saw you mention it on the shiney garage vid and thought I'd have a look. Great review. Thanks for your vids great work. Keep em coming.

Thanks Phil, glad you found it useful 👊
You know what I don’t comment often on RUclips in fact probably about 5 times in 10 years or so but this deserves a comment - really enjoyed the vid and very informative! Made me chuckle on the address.
I'm delighted that my video encouraged you to leave a rare but supportive comment! 👊
Was looking at one of these, earlier today.
Glad I found your video, thanks.
I think it probably takes 2 or 3 times as long to dry with one, compared to a good quality drying towel.
I'll hold on to my money thanks 🙂
Thank you for making this video, keep up with the good work,
Thank you sir 👊
Great video and very informative.👍 I will definitely give one a whirl at that price. I have been looking at the ones marketed for cars and cannot believe how much they are asking.
Thank you!
Ordering one of these today. Really needed one this weekend but ive been putting it off.
It's more versatile than a leaf blower, you can change nozzles and vary the air and heat output. Definitely worth it 👍
Great video again mate! The dryer seems to be a decent bit of kit and did great job once the wax had been applied.
Thanks! It really shows that you get the most out of a dryer when your paint has some protection. That was my first time using Fast Wax and I liked it, very easy to use and gave a nice finish 👍
Very good review, Craig, as always. Seems like a decent bit of kit and with a little ingenuity it could be improved as you suggested.
Thanks David 👍
Hi Craig, Great review, I have the exact same blower, from Amazon £55 delivered. Was marketed as a car and motor bike blower, was horrified when I opened box to see pet dryer on the side, but it is fantastic, I use it to blow the main bulk of water off the car, then use the QD with a light drying towel and finish off I will blow the gaps and grille etc . One more tip use it on a frosty morning on full heat to de-ice the glass, not too close mind. Always remember if you blow down your hose it will get bigger!!!!
Don't talk about my hose 😂
I do the same now, means my drying towel isn't as saturated towards the end of the process. 👍
Hi Specky, what a review,a pet dryer doing the car,it certainly works, probably cheaper than a mini blaster, maybe, the fast wax I was impressed with how it worked.
Cheers Steven. I was impressed with both! The pet dryer is something I'll use often and the spray wax is a nice and easy to use product. 👍
you could easily extend the hose because it the attachments are 32mm you could cut the end off and attach a hoover hose using the the little cube put in to either and cable ties some tape to cover up the cable ties then you have a longer hose. if people get me. :)
I know what you mean, might be something I do in the future. So far it hasn't really been an issue.
I use something similar, but for interior carpet and seats after shampooing/washing does work quiet well for that
Interesting idea! 👍
I've been using a pet dryer for a few years now since my mom is a dog groomer and its outstanding. The one i have is made by B-Air and costs around $180 new. I used it the other to dry the first wash since i applied NuFinish Graphene which is crazy hydrophobic, and I was able to dry my Audi in direct mid-day sun and 80'f temps without it having time to water spot. lol.
Awesome
Brill review and to the point 👍
Thank you!
Check out the Ryobi battery powered blowers. They're effective and cheap too.
I used to use a cheap shop blower but it's on the fritz and I was thinking about this. Great video and you convinced me to get one. The car dryers are a overpriced joke. Thank you for the review and pointing out that without some type of wax or protection on the paint even a overpriced car dryer will not work either. Cheers
Cheers Dean! 👊🏻
Great video 👍
Cheers Richard 👍
That's me just bought one. For information to others: The cheapest I could find was £65.07 from Amazon with free delivery. Thanks for sharing fellow Scot.😁
Yeah prices are all over the place but it's one of my favourite purchases! Will you let me know how you get on with it?
great review just what i was after, new sub added, stay safe in these scary times!
You too, Pablo, glad you liked it 👍
@@SpeckyMcSporran have you found it to be reasonable quality?
Absolutely, I've used it many times and it's been great 👍
@@SpeckyMcSporran brilliant you , nailed put detailer on anything and the price trebles!
Yep, I'd like to get my hands on a proper car dryer and see the difference in person.
Great video, good to see if you find any other bargin alternatives.
I'm Scottish, it's in my blood to be tight with money 😁
Hopefully Bill put it together well but that looks great!!
The inside of that motor though!! 😁 😁
🤷🏻♂️😁
19:02 'Who ya gonna call?' 'I ain't 'fraid a no ghosts' 😂😂
Excellent video Specky, I've been looking at the branded expensive ones all evening and was wondering what these cheap pet ones are like. I think I'll take a punt and buy one!
Cheers Steve, glad it helped!
How did you go with it?
I bought one of these off Amazon about a week ago and have used it once before I stumbled across your review. I have to say it's excellent for £70.
They've gone up in price since i bought mine (I paid £55) but they're well worth it!
@@SpeckyMcSporran For sure i can't complain at all.
Very practical and good presentation, I enjoyed it very much! I liked the hose length presentation section, it looked comical but actually informative. The water drying section is very good, too, to show us the close-up view so I can imagine what's actually going on. Overall, quite helpful for me to decide I buy it or not - most likely I will buy it. Thank you very much - Bill in China should thank you a lot!!
Haha I wish Bill would pay me a commission 🤣
That’s some serious Blow for ya Buck only a little downside it sounds like a Ryanair flight ✈️😍👌🏻👌🏻
Probably pay less for one of those too! 😂
Go Bill !!! :) Interesting, and food for thought. I was looking to buy a BigBoi mini. The ones that are 3 times the price also have 3 times the airflow speed. Obviously its a pet dryer and you don't want to use hurricane wind speed to try to dry a dog lol. At the price it looks decent. I've always wondered about how effective one of these is to blow out the wheels, mirrors, boot lid windows grill and water run offs. Is what your saving money wise, spent in time taken to go round the car? Things to think about. Good vid dude :)
Cheers! 👊
I have a pet blower as you have and to move it round the car i put in shopping trolley with extension lead easy peasy lol live the vids
I love that! 🤣👊
Great video Specky, good value for money. Like a lot of car detailing tools.Once you label a tool as used for car detailing then the cost goes through the roof. I highlighted it a couple of month ago, winds me up. I like the idea of using it for my hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers Martin! At least you still have hair unlike someone we know 😂
@@SpeckyMcSporran are you referring to the Essex Shiner??
@@ObsessiveCarDetailer I couldn't possibly comment! 🤭
Great video. Thanks. Where does the small sponge filters go? I think that's something missed out in the video demo.
Fair point. The filter goes in the back of the unit which unscrews to allow replacement.
You could also maybe use it to take the chill out of the air in the garage this Winter? ❄️😁
🥶🤞
Nice video Specs 👍 (just catching up on some videos).... I've had a pet dryer on my ebay watch list for about 10 years now 🤣
Cheers Mat, for the price of them I really don't see the need in buying a car dryer. If I were a professional looking for a longer hose model then maybe, but for someone like me the pet dryer is perfect.
@@SpeckyMcSporran True.... For the home enthusiast, professional grade equipment can become expensive and hard to jusity.... After using the BigBoi's at the start of the year, I'd say I would probably continue to towel dry and simply use a blower for shuts, grilles etc.... Especially on an unprotected car.
That said, I don't detail as many cars as I used to, and now just grab cars for RUclips 😂
Thanks for the video. I used to debate also what product to buy and at the end, I chose a leaf blower. Paid around £30 for it on sale. Loud as hell for sure, but does the trick.
One question came to my mind: What pet would one dry at around 70 °C?
Also can't help, but when you said "big beads, little beads", the next thing came naturally was "cardboard box" :)
Haha yeah I thought that myself!
It's super hot at the tip of the nozzle but cools as you get further from it.
I think I'd definitely prefer to towel-dry the panels but Im definitely considering this or similar for the mirrors etc., nothing worse than drying the door, for example, turning your back for 2 seconds and seeing that hateful line of beading coming from handle /mirror etc... I definitely would NOT be using the 70degC option on my paintwork though!!!
Got to be 70F not C surely!?!?
I just drive my car at 80mph for a little while 😂. Thanks for the great video
Lol cheers Nick 🙌🏻
Hi I just purchased that exact model it brilliant. Takes me 12 min to dry 2019 octavia and it dry .
That's awesome! And you won't have any water dripping from your mirrors etc 👍
Takes me 2 or 3 mins with a quality drying towel, and it's dry ?
Would be interesting to see the difference between this and a leaf blower. Corded leaf blowers can be even cheaper than this
Might be a future video! 👍
I bought an identical model as this for £50 ( not from Bill) and it's excellent and i put some self adhesive foam around the nozzle tips to avoid and damage, however i thought i would mistakenly do a major upgrade and bought a Blo Air GT at a cost of £230. It is nice & shinny, has wheels , a 8m hose and a 5m power cord but it is no better at all in my opinion. The hose can actually be a bloody nuisance when extended and often trips me up or gets in the way, the heat is generated by the motor ( not a dedicated heating element ) so by the time it has travelled 8M in really cold weather it's barely warm. The nozzle broke on it's second use and the hose came out of the coupling. I should have done more homework cos it's rated at 8hp and i think it is physically impossible to get 8HP from a 240V device that only draws 10A..I think a lot of these detailing products are being mis-sold & in this case it almost breaches trading standard descriptions but a lot don't have UK bases to take up the issue.
i really don't think any of them are suitable for drying an entire car, but are great for wheels, grills , mirrors and ant part where water gathers. I'm back to using my Ebay £50 blower which performs just as well but also keeps me a bit warmer.👍🏻
Thanks so much for this, I don't know anyone personally who has used an ebay special and a "detailing" blower so I'm delighted to have your feedback. I do agree that many are mis-sold but many people are taken in by the shiny looks and sales guff. I'm still using mine and I think I'll discuss this in the next episode of the podcast. Thanks again! 👊🏻
@@SpeckyMcSporran You are welcome👍🏻, i have seen quite a few " detailers" rubbish the Ebay/ Amazon specials but i guess they haven't actually used them and also wonder if they are being sponsored or given some financial inducements to promote these over rated & vastly overpriced Detailing Dryers..
Like your videos too, just honest everyday stuff, no bullshit 👍🏻👍🏻
Great video very well presented 😊👍and my wife is Scottish
Thank you kindly!
Hi I have just watched this video. I brought one of these item uk made it was only £55.00 I have only used it once that's how long I have had it but I like it a lot. The same has you I cannot see the money in some of the expensive one at three times the cost has my one .I don't see it £100 better.
Having never tried a dedicated car blower I can't say for sure that there's a huge difference, but I do happen to know a detailer that uses a pet blower so there can't be much in it. 👍
Mines coming next week 😃😃 a friend bought a big boy for £149 and I bought mine for £53 😀
You have an opportunity that I don't, you can compare!
Personally I use a leaf blower , enjoy your vidios
Cheers Bill. I used leaf blowers for ages but I get more control with the pet dryer.
What do you have for protection? Thats some great sheeting.
I used DetailedOnline Fast Wax
What's your opinion on that detailed online fast wax? Ease of use ? Gloss? Was only looking at this today thinking of getting some in the new year 👍🎅
This was the first time I had a chance to use it. I'm quite impressed, it was easy to apply and buff off and left a nice glossy finish with no streaks. The water behaviour was easy to see in the video. Honestly I can't knock it 👍
👍cheers definitely gonna try it
Ive used this a few times. Gives a nice warm glow to the car that the current sio2 sprays cant. I also find it less fussy to use as well. Lasts a fair few weeks going on months too
I looked into these but a two handed operation doesn't seem appealing or practical to me. Opening doors and boot lids to blow the shuts, lifting up wipers seems awkward. I envisage accidents and scratches that way. I use a cheap £35 Amazon one handed machine that appears equally powerful and has a longer reach. A small leaf-blower I suppose. I must say though, it's nice to see a detailer thinking outside the box and prepared to use equipment that has no, let's say, "car cred"
I can use it "one-handed" most of the time.
On the low heat setting could that be used to defrost the windows or defrost your freezer 🤔
Very possibly 👍🏻
Please post links to dryer and spray wax. Thank you
The dryer was from eBay, the seller I bought it from doesn't sell it any more so you'll have to look yourself. The spray Wax was from DetailedOnline.
You need @paul_dolden_details head camera. Looks a decent option. Same with buckets really. Search ebay for buckets then search detailing buckets. You can buy ones with lids from £6, the same detailing bucket in size etc is £19.99. So why spend so much?
I've got a GoPro with a head mount but I forget I've got it till after I've filmed a video.
question is this the 2800 watt model ? ps you can always add small castors to it
Yes it's 2800watt and I thought about adding wheels but the power cord is short
@@SpeckyMcSporran thanks for the reply i'm gonna get me one
Hi Craig, looking to get a blower for my car and motorbike, do you still recommend this ? Thx
Definitely, I'm still using mine!
@@SpeckyMcSporran I'll order one, thank you, saved me a few quid. Keep up the great videos
Cheers bud, hope it works out well for you!
Just picked up 2 used ones off Facebook Market place for £15
Tomorrow iam going to drill a hole in the nozzle and pop in a screw to lock in place
Do you think the expensive high end units are worth the extra cost??
Iam only a hobbyist but wanted a dryer for ages for grills and wheels , couldn't immagine even with professional one many do the whole car.
Cheers
I know someone who owns a "high end" one and can't see much difference over my pet blower.
@@SpeckyMcSporran great news thanks dude
Any one know the link for this ?
I have my £44.99 pet dryer from Amazon and it works really well
Good deal! 👍
Hi. Would this work well to help dry car seats or carpet after they've been shampooed?
It's warm air, so technically yes. I've used it to dry a boot carpet after shampooing and it wasn't bad.
@@SpeckyMcSporran awesome. Can you recall how long it took you to dry the carpet?
Took a while but I was trying to get it bone dry which was always going to take time.
@@SpeckyMcSporran thanks for your answers
Which dryer is this one? Because I’m looking to get one
It was from eBay some years ago, sorry
I have that one from amazon for £49 and it says the same name and the same address and what would you say the tool sizes are as i might look for rubber ones
Bill gets around doesn't he? 🤣
No idea what the sizes are but I haven't had too much trouble keeping the tips away from the car so far 🤞
@@SpeckyMcSporran 🤣🤣 he does and hopefully i do too but it would be better if they told us what tool sizes they are but you know they like to make life hard when it comes to simple things
Can you send me a link Please as I cant find it for this price. Thanks
Looks like the prices have gone up, sorry.
@@SpeckyMcSporran got a link mate?
Car blowers are just glorified pet dryers. Theres plenty of products in the detailing game that you pay extra for the name. Car blowers are one of them
My thoughts exactly 👍
Yep. These and detail brushes. The cheap Chinese obese are more than good enough coupled with some make up brushes for easily scratched areas.
Make up brushes are great for interiors 👌
food for thought mate... my side kick cost twice that...
That's what I was thinking, didn't want to spend that much but still want decent power.
mrvgrump And mine 😎
The sidekick is worth twice as much in my opinion I have the master blaster but in fairness wish I’d have just gone for the sidekick
Only problem with a dryer is it actually takes longer to dry the car and in the summer parts of the car will dry by the time you got round to certain parts , so you will get water spots and that means the microfibre has to come out to remove the water spots so it’s no longer a contactless procedure
That's a relatively defeatist attitude. Drying aids will help speed sheeting and there's nothing wrong with following up with a QD.
@@SpeckyMcSporran I’m just talking facts , you try doing a whole suv with it or even a car and you’ll see it takes a lot longer and in the summer you have no chance at all of drying the whole car by the time the water is already drying out on the panels , there’s a reason professional mobile detailers only use it for the gaps and grills etc bcuz of the reasons I mentioned , your better off spending money on a resin water filter and doing a final rinse with that , not only will it save time but you rule out possibility of water spots and it’s easier , also there’s no electric involved and you got no chance of accidentally hitting hard nozzles on car as you can use a open hose , and your not carrying or moving this big heavy blower around with you , I admit the tiny cordless ones are useful for the grills and gaps
I'm not disagreeing with you. I wouldn't recommend only using a blower but rather as you suggested in addition to towel drying for intricate areas.
@@ImranAli-rp4kd The man is from Scotland, up here we don't get summers. 🥶
@@TheExStig Im in England and I go glasgow all the time but the temp still goes up in spring and summer and regardless of the temp , it still takes longer to use a dryer and the review is too inform people around the world so just showing us drying one panel is not ideal and once you try drying a whole car then you know it’s better to buy a resin filter or just dry it with a soft towel
👍🏻
Wheres the link mate
Sellers change all the time so I haven't included one, sorry. A quick eBay search will find one.
Id towel dry then only use this on awkward areas
you can even use a hairdryer
Well yes, I suppose you could.
who you gonna call..........
We be fast and they be slow! 😁
@@SpeckyMcSporran this is actually a good idea and half the price...
dont turn it on without having a good grip on the hose, dont ask me how i know lol
How do you know? HOW DO YOU KNOW?! 😂
@@SpeckyMcSporran future video content for you lol
Lovely Jubbly, bargain.

if you search on "car dryer" on Amazon you get recommended similar items, though not quite as impressive as Bill's design which reminds me of British kit from 1970s. That address is legit BTW (I zoomed out to show that it really is "over the sea")
