I built a shaving horse about 40 years ago. It was for my father. He's let it run off somewhere. I got a new (old) mint condition drawknife yesterday. I think I'll build myself a new shaving horse . Good job W on this vid. It has reminded me of long ago, and, what I'll do for a future project.
I have a problem with mice around my place so I always carry a S&W .500 magnum wherever I go - it works pretty good. My daughter (18 months old) generally carries a .40 caliber to protect her dolls [hey, you never know]. Last week I was hunting for worms (using fish as bait) because the yawning sound they make at night was keeping me awake. Incidentally, I was wondering - are albino polar bears black?
Glad that you finally got around to building one of these almost forgotten, amazing tools. Bet that you'll wonder why you didn't make one a long time ago!
It's been forever since I've seen a video without commentary. It's interesting to see how much has changed since I started watching your videos. I like the beautiful flag in the background.
Have you finished the draw horse? I love the simplicity of the bench and material support and am curious how you will do the clamp. oh and I saw the bolt you had to cut through on the through tenon. Hopefully you didn't find that with your hand saw!
Nicely done WS. Been a long time no chat but been watxhin the new vids and I have to say i would love to be able to have and enjoy a workshop like yours. I miss farm life sometimes.
+Wranglestar i love your channel!! You are a very handy craftsman, I guess what you see with your eyes ,you can make with your hands!! Its a great gift!!
Nice horse! Been debating on whether to use a longleaf pine beam from a barn for this purpose or just wait until that perfect fireplace needing a mantel comes along. Are you planning on a german dumbhead or English bodger style? Are you going to use a hardwood for the holddown portions? What do you expect the finished weight to come out at, approximately?
Cody I know you are busy, but I can't find part two. I'm needing to make one of these before winter and I want to use your design. But I don't think I have the clamp mechanism drawn out right, I'm sure yours will be better. can you direct me...
Thanks for the vid. I am making a shave horse tomorrow (or at least starting one), I was trying to figure out how best to build the ramp part, Thanks for the idea. after the horse, building a deck and a smoke house out of the Alder I have on my land.
Hey Cody where did you get your long handled chisels at. I have been looking for some. Great video reminds me of high school back in the wood shop. Thanks for sharing
Some of us live in the country. Bad critters are around, both the four legged and the two legged kind. The sheriff, IF he's on duty between 9-5 M-F. may be 30+ minutes away. On a good day. A lot can happen in 30 minutes.
When you build a tool, jig or project there seems to be a freedom w/o following a plan or blueprint. You see the finished project in your mind & just chip away at the steps to get there : )
Suggestion, Screw the drill guide to a piece of plywood larger that the base of the drill guide. cut out a hole the diameter matching the inside of the drill guide. Then it can easily be placed over the work piece and clamped into place. Saves time and You won't have to run screws into the work piece if you are working on a lest rustic item. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the inspiration. I have been wanting to build one of these for quite some time now. You did a fine job. I am sure you will enjoy your new tool! Was that a Wood Is Good Mallet I spotted? I love my Wood Is Good Mallet!!!
Have you read, "A Reverence for Wood," by Eric Sloane. It's an old, skim book that's part of a series, available cheap on Amazon. You would truly empathize with the author.
Is there anything that you are inept at doing? lol You seem to have just about every skill a man needs. Can't wait for part 2 and what gets made on that thing.
If you draw the the knife at an angle you will shear the wood instead of scraping it. Makes it much easier to use the drw knife and you use the entire blade instead of just the center.
Nice , i have something similar to that my dad draged out of his grandpas house about 65 years ago. Mine has 3 legs and the body is a cedar 5 x 10 guitar shaped , like a spot on the round part whittled out for butt to fit on , One square hole just past center. I always wonderd what the heck it was ,.
why do you carry a fire arm in your own shed? not being critical just wondering the need, im in australia so someone carrying a fire arm is either out hunting or a cop
***** if your talking to me i'm in a small town rural and have gun licence and my own fire arms (for hunting) but i don't think i could live in a places where i felt so unsave yo need a gun at my hip at all times and i feel safer in the bush then i do in the city
hey so I'm pretty tuned right now, and yet part 2 isn't out. I've been tuned for about 2-3 years now
He's given up and started to build a new one...
Beautiful work....a joy to watch! Simple, and ordinary, and beautiful wood.
Thank you for this!!

Hello, Mr.Wrangler. I am only 14 years old, but I have to say that I enjoy watching your craftsmanship.
Is there a part 2?
When is part 2 coming out??
Woodwright shop? Never heard of it.
I was thinking the same thing.
Excellent use of that older barn wood. The joy of making your own tools is hard to beat!
I'll try to do this when its complete.
your land has been a great resource in providing you with great materials to work with. Way to re-salvage so much.
I clicked this video to see a shaved horse and now im watching a guy building his own spank bank for the last 5 minutes.
Great job on the project and excellent job editing. I like your skills on editing better than some of the stuff on TV.
You'll have to wait for part 2
Yes but the price is right.
Cool stuff. Saw one on my Dads old homeplace when I was a kid. Never know what it was till I saw Roy Underhill use one on the wood wrights shop on PBS
Glad that you finally got around to building one of these almost forgotten, amazing tools. Bet that you'll wonder why you didn't make one a long time ago!
I was hoping you could publish plans of some sort I have been want a shaveing horse for quite some time.
Your attention to camera work gives a very polished and enjoyable feel to your videos. Well done.
It's been forever since I've seen a video without commentary. It's interesting to see how much has changed since I started watching your videos. I like the beautiful flag in the background.
I need to watch this each time I start to think I'm a good carpenter. Nice work man.
It's a "I made it out of a piece of firewood mallet"
It was good to see those timber framing chisels come out again for a little while. Great project!
Have you finished the draw horse? I love the simplicity of the bench and material support and am curious how you will do the clamp. oh and I saw the bolt you had to cut through on the through tenon. Hopefully you didn't find that with your hand saw!
I am keen to see part 2 so I can see how you use this.
Nice work there Cody.
Very well edited video! Fun to watch.
Nicely done WS. Been a long time no chat but been watxhin the new vids and I have to say i would love to be able to have and enjoy a workshop like yours. I miss farm life sometimes.
:D Any piece of wood you're not forced to consign to the chipper or the stove is a blessing
im inlove with the editing you have done and the wood work is beautiful
Well, I watched the video, and read the description, and I still have no idea how this thing is going to work. Can't wait for part 2!! LOL!!
how do you use it? Looks different from the other types of seen, ones that use a foot pedal to hold the wood
A 30 second demo at the end would have been worth watching
Wow, I was watching so intently, I didn't realize my hand had fallen asleep. You are a true craftsman. It's poetry watching you work :)
where did you purchace the drill press attachment for your drill? Do you remember how much they are? It looks like a very handy piece of gear.
Your videos are so relaxing for some reason.
Like I don't even know what this is for. But I watched it anyways.
What does that tool do?
+Wranglestar i love your channel!! You are a very handy craftsman, I guess what you see with your eyes ,you can make with your hands!! Its a great gift!!

Thank W for this vid. It has reminded me of long ago, and motivated me into my next project.
The editing in your videos is always top notch. Nice horse!

Cody, we need part 2 please.
interesting be interesting to see it in use and everything...nice vid
Great job Cody...
that's awesome cant wait to see when its finished
Hello. Why do you need a side arm while doing carpentry?
he lives in an area where mountain lions are prevalent
If his family or pets are attacked he can instantly be there to help, no need to run to the house to get a gun
glad im not the only one who wondered that...

That is one gorgeous framing chisel.
I am talking about the red rubber coated mallet around 4:45. Did you make that one yourself? If so, WOW!
When is Part 2 coming out? I'd like to see how the rest is finished.
those type of device are also good for types of sewing quilting and braiding
If you stop it at 0:39 perfect American picture. Nice work my friend!
looking forward to part 2!
When you build a tool, jig or project there seems to be a freedom w/o following a plan or blueprint. You see the finished project in your mind & just chip away at the steps to get there : )
Would it be possible for you to give us some dimensions or a plan for the bench?
Have you finished this? Or am I missing the other video? Keep up the good work
no part 2 Cody??!

TBH, I have no fucking clue what the hell you made.
It's hard to say because I don't know each individuals skill or ability.
nice! I appreciate the brevity of this edit!!
Thanks for the inspiration. I have been wanting to build one of these for quite some time now. You did a fine job. I am sure you will enjoy your new tool! Was that a Wood Is Good Mallet I spotted? I love my Wood Is Good Mallet!!!
I don't have a clue what that is or what you do with that. Please demo it for us
02:22 Why didn't you put wedges on the legs' part that pin into the bench so tighten them good for ever ?…
Nice job. Thanks for posting.
So, I take it that this is an unfinished shaving horse?
gonna make one tomorrow Cody and I'll try to film it, thanx again gr8 stuff
0:38s Always Strapped, Nice

I meen I don't mind wranglstar but he never replies to subscribers wich is kind of making me think he is just here for money:(
lachie2002 I get replies, so do others. Patience...
Is there anything that you are inept at doing? lol You seem to have just about every skill a man needs. Can't wait for part 2 and what gets made on that thing.
Hi cody my name is tyler and i was wondering if you had any old draw knives for sale
What kinds of things would you recommend people do to make a living on a homestead?
generally like your vids but perplexed over your clamping mech. Like, where I is it? Look forward to more of this project.
I can't seem to find part 2?
Stephen it was never out
crazy to see the difference from this video to your new shave horse lol
What is that can you tell me?
Whats the drill mod he is using 50 seconds in?
I would have used a brace and bit if I had one LOL
If you draw the the knife at an angle you will shear the wood instead of scraping it. Makes it much easier to use the drw knife and you use the entire blade instead of just the center.
I know he won't answer, but does anyone know where part 2 is on this? (This is 'not' complete at all!)
As Hannibal would always say, 'I love it when a plan comes together!'

Either I'm getting feeble minded or I missed this one too! Thanks for suggesting it.
At 3:54 and 4:10 I see what looks like a nail. You cut through that with a handsaw ! Yikes, that must have been painful !
wheres the clamping mechanism..?
Thinking the same thing
joebainter wranglerstar
...And waiting for Part two.
Where is part 2????
What does that do?
Billy Cullen You use it to put horses on to shave them.
why do you carry a fire arm in your own shed? not being critical just wondering the need, im in australia so someone carrying a fire arm is either out hunting or a cop
