    I built a shaving horse about 40 years ago. It was for my father. He's let it run off somewhere. I got a new (old) mint condition drawknife yesterday. I think I'll build myself a new shaving horse .
    Good job W on this vid. It has reminded me of long ago, and, what I'll do for a future project.

    I have a problem with mice around my place so I always carry a S&W .500 magnum wherever I go - it works pretty good. My daughter (18 months old) generally carries a .40 caliber to protect her dolls [hey, you never know]. Last week I was hunting for worms (using fish as bait) because the yawning sound they make at night was keeping me awake. Incidentally, I was wondering - are albino polar bears black?

    Suggestion, Screw the drill guide to a piece of plywood larger that the base of the drill guide. cut out a hole the diameter matching the inside of the drill guide. Then it can easily be placed over the work piece and clamped into place. Saves time and You won't have to run screws into the work piece if you are working on a lest rustic item. Keep up the good work.

    If you draw the the knife at an angle you will shear the wood instead of scraping it. Makes it much easier to use the drw knife and you use the entire blade instead of just the center.

  • @brucesmith8665

    I am not sure that this person has ever used a shaving horse. This one is made backwards. The foot pedal and clamping head should be toward the carver, not at the far end. He did a nice job of making this, but it will not work. Part 2 should be a correction.

    • @dougdobbs
      @dougdobbs 7 лет назад

      Why couldn't the head be put through and clamp at the top of the "ramp?" Doesn't seem backwards to me.

    • @brucesmith8665
      @brucesmith8665 7 лет назад +1

      Doug....there is no way to attach the head in the right place. Where the head is now, there should be a hinge or peg to hold the ramp in place and allow it to move up and down. The head should be toward the other end of the bench, closer to where the block is that elevates the ramp. Take a look at any of the many videos on RUclips about building a shave horse. The dumb head or clamp is useless at the end of the bench.

    Nice horse! Been debating on whether to use a longleaf pine beam from a barn for this purpose or just wait until that perfect fireplace needing a mantel comes along.
