I bought mine at least 23 years ago, possibly 25 years. At the bottom where you have the empty zip pocket mine has 2 captive (attached) rain covers, 1 in British army DPM pattern material and one in khaki/desert material. The rucksack looks pretty much the same, I'm sure there are a few small changes here and there but not that many. Mine still looks brand new and its been on a trip or two, I do look after my gear and always give my gear a good clean up before it goes back into my gear rooms, but even so it is a well built piece of kit that is so comfortable to use that even though I have many other and newer rucksacks but I still like to use my Rocket. I can't remember exactly what I paid for it but it was around thirty pounds and turned out to be money well spent. It has also done quite a bit of advertising for Snugpak in that because of it I recommend Snugpak gear to anyone.
Thanks you....this pack is nice......been going down a backpack/military pack rabbit hole for weeks now - 5.11, Kifaru, Tasmanian Tiger, Mystery Ranch, etc.....trying to find my next pack.. Update Jun-2023 -> my RocketPak arrived. 3 things stand out - 1) the amount of stuff that can fit into the side pockets, 2) the very large pockets in the top flap and 3) the ability to slide tools (e.g. axe, machete, knife) behind the side pockets. Nice material - soft but strong.....my only gripes are some minor attention to detail, e.g. the mesh side pockets were sewn inconsistently (one larger than the other) and the tension straps for the side pockets need to be secured (i.e. rolled up and secured with a rubber band for example) ....very minor things. I rate this pack a solid 9/10.
Thank you for the review. The Bergen and Rocketpak, both share a common flaw in my view, in that they don't have adjustable back lengths to ensure a proper fit for many. Any pack that wants to be taken seriously should have that at least. I have the Bergen and it fits me fine luckily. Perhaps one could view the Rocketpak as a short back version of the Bergen?
Agreed, many of my hiking packs do have this adjustment to really dial it in. I have had my eye on the Bergen as I generally like helikon products, but ultimately decided on the LL bean weekender. Have a look at that video if you are interested.
@@woodlandsnorththe helikon Bergen is small, on a person your size it would be like a school bag. I’m 178cm and I can’t overload it to make it uncomfortable.
i really like this backpack. do you think it could hold a rifle/shotgun securely on the sides? im also wondering if the snugpak ionosphere tent would fit in one of those side pouches
Better off using the molle points to sling the tent under the rucksack but you could break the tent down and use the side pouches but it only leave you with 40L for other gear. Try the Snugpack endurance 40L if you want to sling a gun and then add a couple of molle side pouches to tack it back up to 70L. www.snugpak.com/outdoor/rucksacks/endurance
doubt the ionsphere would fit (I have one).....im liking this pack too......probably attach the ionsphere at bottom as there's molle webbing....i like how you can sneak an axe of machete between the pockets and bag
@@andyirons7162 i bought this bag and the ionosphere fits perfectly in the side pouches. my small forest axe fits right between like you said and i feel pretty confident holding a shotgun/rifle between as well. its a great bag man, you can pretty much keep the huge main compartment for food and clothing or a decent amount of meat.
so although they are made in the uk they use ykk zips. (high quality japanese standard) as do most quality companies such as brenthaven, helly hansen, north face etc
Great review dude 👍 I'm getting one 👊
Its a great pack still live it

they are made in the far East........
My snugpak rocket arrived today and the foam back support are squashed.. Do they reshape?
Mine was not squished, but it seems to be a resilient material. Maybe contact snugpack?
good review
