      ALL AMD cards besides the rx 6600 are horribly overpriced relative to their market demand. The 6600 performs like a 3060 and costs as much as the 3050. It is the only AMD gpu with sales that compete with a similarly priced nvidia counterpart. However, it's 45% faster than a 3050 and is the same price.
      Compared to a 4080, the 7900xtx should be priced at $750 for it to sell well. Similarly, the 7900xt needs to be $600, 7800xt at $450. They'd make less profit but actually sell gpus.
      This seems like Lisa su is colluding with Jensen Huang to raise prices of the whole market. They've just stopped bothering with competing with consoles in terms of value.

Everyone complains about Nvidia prices, but still winds up buying Nvidia despite AMD generally delivering better performance per dollar.
      Also, no shit, AMD is a corporation, it is literally legally obligated to post profit to shareholders. Let's suppose they double their current market share by cutting the profits they get from each individual purchase by 60%. Do you need me to explain to you why they'd rather avoid that?

    Hi Steve, question regarding Forza Horizon 5. You said that you did the RT test at the Extreme preset, however the preset only enables High RT - which isn't active in races or free roam, only in ForzaVista and photo mode. To get in-game RT reflections you have to manually raise the RT level to either Ultra (half resolution RT, your car only) or Extreme (full resolution RT, your car only). Are these figures using High RT, or did you raise it to Ultra or Extreme?

    • @Hardwareunboxed
      @Hardwareunboxed  9 месяцев назад +58

      Hey mate, sorry it wasn't made clear. The RT setting has been manually set to 'ultra'.

    I wish we could rate the quality of the RT implementation and upscaling implementation in individual games too. I know ratchet and clank had fuzzy looking RT shadows which didn't look much better than raster while cyberpunk looks like a completely different game with RT reflections. Some RT games really just don't look better than raster which helps the xtx while some FSR implementations are truly awful which helps the 4080.

    • @redeye259
      @redeye259 8 месяцев назад

      That would be a great metric, there aren’t many games out that justify the use of RT in terms of improving the image quality. Cyberpunk with RT is mind blowing, feels great to be able to play it at over 100 FPS on a 4080

    • @shanks2872
      @shanks2872 8 месяцев назад +7

      Eh XTX does RT great except on Nvidia focused titles like Cyberpunk so ur point doesn't really make sense. RT is a joke, and Nvidia likes to pretend it is way more important than it is and for less money and more Vram the XTX is the better choice (IMO). I used to like Nvidia a lot but they're trying to scam you at this point.

    • @plasmahvh
      @plasmahvh 8 месяцев назад +7

      @@shanks2872 no it doesn't. it does well on software RT (Lumen) not on hardware RT. Cyberpunk is one of the most hardware agnostic games. It's just that PT is unusable on AMD cards. AMD's solution to RT is to use the same shader units to compute both RT and Raster. NVIDIA on the other hand has dedicated RT cores. So NVIDIA cards have better RT at the cost of raster. And they believe that's the right choice. I assume they will do everything they can to push Path Tracing with their market share. XTX has 4070 levels of pure RT which is quite embarrassing for a flagship card. In the end it all comes down to who wins, path tracing or lumen. If path tracing wins AMD is fucked hard, if lumen wins NVIDIA lost at least 8 years of RT development (IN GAMING). I hope that PT wins cause it simply looks better but consoles are way too weak for it. Maybe next gen consoles

    • @shanks2872
      @shanks2872 8 месяцев назад +6

      @@plasmahvh I still have to disagree on the Amd is fucked part, they can switch to developing RT while Nvidia will have lost tons of money. While you could say 4070 levels of RT is embarrasing (I disagree), you could say the same about the vram on the 4070 and ti. We are starting to see more Vram usage on games and it won't go down in the future. I still believe Amd is the better choice for the average gamer since they do care about their older cards and they perform very well.

    My 7900 XTX has been going pretty well for me. Gaming at 4K largely is good enough I don't need to use upscaling, but even then FSR is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. DLSS is obviously better, but it's not so dramatically better I couldn't play a game that had FSR instead and not DLSS (they should all be there, not advocating for vendor locked features). Maybe once AMD is winding down development of frame gen they could focus on utilizing their AI cores to further enhance their 7000 series cards in FSR and produce DLSS quality upscaling to effectively eliminate the largest downside they have currently?
    With that being said, DF had a good point that due to DLSS having effectively a similar quality upscaling image at about one more notch down on the presets vs FSR ( DLSS Balanced = FSR Quality), it gives an even larger bump in performance to Nvidia.

    I thought HUB usually included power data, am I imagining that? Anyway, VERY interesting results, that still leave a big question mark hanging on what games you really intend to play. The 7900XTX I feel will last a lot longer with it's 24GB of VRAM and wider bus, but when you're talking about spending $900-$1000 on a GPU (I hate this timeline) another $150-$200 on top for Ray-tracing performance could make sense if that's the kind of games you're playing.

      Usually, but I imagine for this you can just go back to the original 7900 XTX review. Power likely hasn't changed much. 4080 is still probably consuming a bit less power.
      And yeah, very interesting, they tie or the 7900 XTX barely wins on at least the rasterization comparison, but for every game benchmarked that I would play, the 4080 ties or wins. And there's other games where the 7900 XTX absolutely spanks, but I don't intend to play any of them. 4080 seems like a better choice for me, assuming black friday has some decent prices (I also hate this timeline)

      The main point here is: the more RT workload you have - the more 4080 is in the lead, as it has less raster performance for that reason. Thats is why there are "RT" games where XTX takes the lead. It is just because those games literally have just a tiny bit of RT

    Yep, GPU benchmarking have become extremely complex in recent years with various upscaling techs that differ substantially in actual quality they offer despite using similar abbreviation, as in with DLSS/XeSS Quality vs FSR Quality offering comparable performance one to another, but image quality differs. Add to that RT performance that can vary drastically from game to game, in one AMD can be dramatically slower than competitors, but in another offer roughly similar level of performance or even ever so slightly higher. Now throw in FG/FM features for good measure and VRAM capacities and oh well... I'am pretty involved user/gamer, so i can find my way around it, but if as a reviewer your baseline is a clueless customer, then you have one hell of a job in front of you to try and convey as objective picture to a customer as possible.

      I agree, it's much harder now to objectively convey the experience consumers will end up with because image quality is so hard to quantify. All upscalers have their pros and cons, but I think a lot of people would say DLSS and XeSS have a healthy edge, especially in motion (which is pretty important in gaming). There's so much to think about now. I remember reading a comment the other day where someone said they could increase frame rate from 30 to 60 with framegen and heard that the latency was negligible. I can't even blame people, there are just so many things to be aware of lol.
