the one thing that always made me laugh with the nxea franchise was the completely half arsed livery change on the rolling stock! slap a white line over the first logo and jobs a good un! 🤣
I know haha! The mix and match with some units receiving NXEA livery some not. The 360s had one grey livery and the rest in fake blue for some reason! It was a real mix!
not forgetting the class 90 sets which were more of a rainbow than the actual ONE branding, bit of one, bit of nxea and maybe a splash of virgin just for shits and giggles. usually hauled by a 47 because the 90s had absolutely piss poor reliability at the start!
I think the best part of all this is that technically Abellio Greater Anglia's livery is basically also just the NXEA basic colours of grey/white but with added red, sort of a legacy of the NXEA days 😂 Definitely best seen with some of the 321s carrying NXEA blue doors right up to withdrawal 😂 The 360's were even more bizzare as the 'blue' was just the base colour of the old 'Barbie' livery from First Great Eastern and they carried that right until their transfer to EMR, so yeah 😂 And a final tidbit, c2c Rail, Essex's only other franchise and another ex-National Express company still to this day uses the old National Express white and blue doors livery, but now with added Trenitalia decals in place of the NX logo 😅

Fabulous video, very informative great job vanmanyo! Btw the map looks great how’d you find it? I make custom maps for networks and that one reminds me of one I did in 2023
I do miss National Express East Anglia when they originally were called “One” Railway. I do remember Class 360 “360115” that had the National Express East Anglia livery.
Ok I did not know ONE was part of National Express. I always thought it was a separate company prior to NXEA. Man I'm dumb. Still, good video. Really enjoying this series my friend keep it up! 🙂
Well the more you know haha! Thanks for your comment though 😆 ONE was a somewhat smart name but I think it was a stupid brand name for a railway company - it's meaning made sense but in terms of branding definitely not a good choice!
I have experienced some good and bad things with National Express East Anglia. Including their trains that keeps on breaking down and the poor quality of services that made the train operator the worst in the UK. Overall I do like what they have done including painting the trains in National Express East Anglia livery and improving stations to make them more accessible and easier to use.
When it comes to Brand Consistency, One/NXEA has to be among the Worst of any TOC. After all they never fully rebranded the FGE, Anglia & WAGN Liveries (on trains) and Signs (at stations) before rebranding to NXEA. A rebranding process they nevet got to finish either. Hence why there where still FGE & WAGN Branded Trains & Signs when NXEA finally met their demise.
I only went on One/Nat Exp EA a few times and I think that they ran to time when i did them.National Express later went for a corporate identity removing the East Anglia bit and pretending that EA and East Coast were the same company following in the Virgin Trains(really XC,WC and EC) and Connex, the first to do this,(really SE and SC) line of thinking.
Awful operator. NX skimped on investment, with stations and rolling stock looking dreadful. 315 refurb was good (literally everything) but they left the low backed seats in “due to budget” which really didn’t help with perception. I remember when the ex-LM 321’s arrived and weren’t even deep cleaned prior to service introduction - rumours have it that they were actually flea infested. Unless it was the Norwich IC stock, or the StanEx, NXEA couldn’t give a stuff. Many people were glad to see the back of them.
Indeed. And passengers criticising NXEA for being the worst train operator before National Express lost the East Anglia franchise to Abellio and it was rebranded & renamed to Greater Anglia.
I'm sorry to say this but ASLEF has been a real pain of late. Though i don't live in The UK but in Australia however from what i have seen on other UK Rail related RUclips clips can sort of back up what i have said to begin with.
@@Vanmanyo oh I see no it me that is make things confusing as I did not understand that how it worked when I ask about the Skegness line get longer trains eg the 12 care or 8 care unit as they currently use 2 or 4 and I ask why can they not just add two of the 4 care unit to make an 8 car unit. The stupid thing is am sure most of the platform on the line can take upto 15 / 12 car units as they had them in the day of steam I think
@@Ducks-are-cool1 I don't think Skeggy has ever got anything longer than 5 car in recent history! 15 car would be the longest trains in the UK so probably unrealistic! I went to Skeggy from Grantham and it wasn't too crowded anyway

Thank you! I believe Andrew Smithers made it for National Express!
@@Vanmanyo woah that’s pretty cool (thanks for replying to my comment :D)
I love this series can the next mini series be on all of the failed franchises of the ecml.
Definitely considering it after my exams!

I quite liked the ONE livery. Shame it didn't stick around for longer.

NXEA/ONE will forever be one of my favourite ever train franchises
Nice video. Have you got a link to the video of the clips by “Tony” please - I can’t find this channel and assume there is some gold on there!
Thanks! Very nice of him to give me permissions, he has some incredible stuff on there! youtube.com/@Tonysrailvideos?si=p8PG8W-qDAK2jjL8

"One" was hilarious brand where it made people late for trains via station announcements. Eg, the "13:30, One service" was misunderstood as 13:31.
Yep haha!

I imagine the Norwich IC and StanEx was where the money was. StanEx made up 20% of all income on the franchise...
2:23 A misspeak, I assume you meant Hertford East 😅
Yes 🫣🫣🫣 haha
Where eas the 153 at Diss going when it went towards Norwich from the London boind platform?
Ssdly could not tell you you'd have to ask the creator! I would imagine Ipswich and then it would run a local service or something
Probably a test run from Crown point.
And i remember when NXEA went on strike
Indeed. And passengers criticising NXEA for being the worst train operator before National Express lost the East Anglia franchise to Abellio and it was rebranded & renamed to Greater Anglia.
It was legally London Eastern Railway from the start quite why they didn’t just use this as the branding though as it sounded much better than One
Would London midland be classed as a failed franchise? If yes I’d love to see it

Can u do national express (c2c) next
Finishing the Anglia series first 😀
ONE meant Operated by National Express
yep
Great video
Try south west trains they were a failed franchise, from stagecoach during the 21st century (1996-2017).
I was under the impression that rolling stock/ trains was owned by a rolling stock company and not the train operator?
Yes they are however they can stil be switched between operators, and the DfT can still order stock for ROSCOs - sorry for any confusion!
@@Vanmanyo
Makes you wonder why ROSCOs where even created in the first place...

The subtitles on this video were pretty bad. It couldn't spell "Southend", "Ipswich" or "Lowestoft", for example.
Blame RUclips! I would put them on manually but I don't have the time or mental capacity! It's hard enough writing the scripts 😅
Everyone you referred to them as "one", it sounded like you were referring to yourself in a posh dialect!
Maybe I just was 🤫🤭

I’ve been to Braintree. And Braintree Freeport.
