What I love about these dramas is that they take their time to setup the story and develop the characters and narrative - you get time to breath as you slowly get pulled into the story.
I don’t know why people don’t like the early episodes. I thought it was excellent from start to finish.

Not enough reactors watch Korean dramas, my mister is excellent. Arthdal chronicles, vagabond, VIP etc, I look forward to your next episode.
The drama gets more intense and emotional as we move forward. It will be interesting to see your reactions as you are watching it for the first time.
The story is still in its early setup phase, establishing the entanglement among all the characters, almost all of them in the middle of some kind of misery. This downcast ambient and the sense of angst kept some at bay since this drama is a slow-burner intended to stew rather than boil.
The episode clearly shows that Lee Jian is more than the typical helpless victim of the environment. She can be cunning and ruthless to achieve her goal. She is a hardened survivor. The brothers are great characters who provide occasional comedic relief this dark and grim drama sorely needs so that the audience could get some relief.
