To everyone wanting to get into airbrushing the hardest 3 parts (all require just a little reading/watchin videos) 1. Cleaning airbrush 2. Mixing ratio (not as hard as it sounds) 3. Where/how to setup
Ive just received my cheap one of these from AliExpress, never touched an airbrush before, came looking for tips, instead i found your super contagious excitement! Your mech dude looks brilliant too!
Hi David, new sub here. I have to say not only am I envious of your kampfer kit but also the finish you got with the airbrush for your fist experience. Well done 👏
OH YEAH! That blue is gorgeous, love the video man. Nice to hear other people speaking their minds about what we're all thinking on the inside. Especially artists, we all have that "Oh no this is terrible" moment, but 90% of the time if you push through it you get rewarded in many ways. My old painting teacher used to say "if it sucks it sucks, but isn't it fun to try" haha she was right
It definitely is a fun journey, paved with doubts and second thoughts here and there. But like you said, just stick to it, trust the process and in the end all is going to be good :)
What the hell. Came for an airbrush video. Left with inspiration to actually start all the 'First Steps' i promised myself my entire life. Thanks my friend.
It is funny to me to hear the different things we find scary or daunting to try. I jumped into air brushing almost as soon as I got into the hobby. I knew it was hard, but I always thought of it as "just paint" nothing permanent. In my case, modifying kits with Pla plate and making custom things like that has always been too scary to try because "what if I wreck my model"? Thank you for providing some perspective, and for mushing me towards feeling ok with trying potentially destructive things in the name of having fun and learning in the hobby!
Haha yeah, it was the total opposite for me. Just like you said, different person, different fears/reservations. I got intro scribing pretty fast. To be fair though, I was using the HG grand daddy to practice. No way I would pick a MG or anything of equal value right away.
I'm sure many others feel/felt like you when taking that first step. Once I did I was convinced my first few painted kits would be trash but since I put in the work to research before jumping in, every kit has just looked fantastic. It's amazing how much of a difference it makes, even if you just paint the standard colors instead of customs. You don't realize it until you try just how easy it is and how fulfilling it is.
I really like the angle that you're hitting on this video. People make all these excuses to not push themselves further, but it's fun pushing your skills in anything out of your comfort zone, even if you fail, you will learn so much. I started gunpla at the same time I started modeling in general, I did a tamiya car first actually, so the next model being a HG it actually made things a lot easier. Patience for letting layers cure and taking your time masking is the key.

Yeah, maintaining a hobby gets even harder when kids come into play. Then of course family should be number one priority. But still, it's great to hear that you are making the choice. I hope it works out for you :)
I am also just getting into Gunpla builds and was thinking of getting one of these type of airbrushers. Seeing the results from your video looks fantastic
Nice, welcome to the world of Gunpla. Which kit(s) did you get? I just recently finished painting my second kit with this airbrush and I'm still very happy that I decided to take that step.
When I first started building gunpla a few months back a friend asked if I would customize and I said nah too much effort but here I am with paint, thinner and a airbrush/compressor. I’m just going to start simple and do the inverse colours of the tallgeese mg that I’m building
Got one similar to this from Amazon. Did not work at all regardless of how much I thinned the paint-until I swapped the airbrush with Iwata Neo. Magical setup. Sprays beautifully at 50/50 ratio. Cleans up like a champ. Bye bye compressors.
I was thinking about doing the same, however I don't know if the vavle of this particular airbrush will take third party airbrushers. I suppose they have different diameters?
@@GiantRobolove I had to remove the connector valve of the Neo and attached Neo directly on the valve of the compressor. My compressor is the YXGOOD Airbrush Kit from Amazon.
Tolles Video 👍 Verwendest du diese Mobile Airbrush immer noch? Also war die Airbrush auf lange Sicht ok? Ich freue mich deinen Kanal gefunden zu haben.

Hey, nice seeing you here :) And also thanks for those kind words. I hope you are feeling better and life treats you well again. Looking forward to your content :)
Thanks for this video. I got an expensive iwata brush and bought like $1000 in paints that have been just sitting here next to me for about 2 months now. First I made it about not wanting to disassemble my gunpla.. putting it off as "troublesome", but the other day I realized the real reason I haven't started was simply the fact that despite how much research I've done, I'm nervous and overwhelmed at the idea of trying to airbrush. I'm petrified that I'm going to ruin my gunpla.. there's so much airbrushing information I've consumed and in my mind I've built it up to being more complex than it probably is (especially since I have a really extensive art background). Seeing you jump in after having similar reservations has REALLY motivated me. Your kit came out great, looking forward to the follow up and how the diorama turns out. Awesome stuff
I totally feel you. One thing that I might help is to get a new (yes, particular new) kit that isn't as expensive. This Kaempfer that I got was just about 20 bucks. Makes it easier to lift the pressure off you. I have the RG Sazabi in my backlog that's sitting on the shelf for over two years now, because I want it to be perfect when I build it. I would never get the idea to take this as the first kit to test the airbrush on. Just get a kit that you're not too emotionally attached to and go from there 👍
You can do it! Remember you always test out your mix and spray on paper towels first, so you know what is going to come out when you point it at your Gunpla. Also, try buying some First Grade models. They’re like $5 USD. Super cheap and old and perfect for testing and experimenting.
Thank you very much for this video! Not only is it beautifully produced and thought provoking, but seeing and hearing you describe your experience with this airbrush is worth more than the "pro" users' reviews. Danke!
Hello i just wanted to say thank you this video inspired me. I've had a kit for the longest time to scared to do it b/c I want to do it right plus it's a expensive kit. So I've ordered the airbrush kit about to learn how to mix paints. Thank you so much love the videos keep it up.
Hey, that is great to hear. Wish you all the best with the airbrush. Let me know how it goes :) IF you feel insecure, you can always try on spare parts or plastic spoons. And also thanks a bunch for the kind words.
Welcome to the world of airbrushing. It's completely worth it. Have fun and just let your creativity flow. And if your going to continue to shoot lacquer get a booth.
Thank you! Yes, it feels really nice. I'm already excited to try a non metallic color. And yeah, the booth is already on my to-buy list. You don't happen to have a recommendation?
@@GiantRobolove I've done the diy thing for so long I'm in the same boat as you. I've been looking myself for a booth as well as a new desk setup. I have yet to come across something that works for me. I know there are some decent ones on eBay and Amazon but they look pretty small. I think your best bet is to have one fabricated if you can. Or look at the arttystation spray booth. Thats probably what I will go with in the end.
I wouldn’t be so sure, I bought one when I wanted to start painting but it stopped working and broke in a day. I got a real airbrush and haven’t regretted it
Hello, could you make a stepped video after building the kit such as, where to begin for panel lining, coating, air brushing (and If there are more steps etc...) Thanks !
Great video, very inspiring and honest! My plan is to get an airbrush sometime soon, but I've been fearing the results as I'm not really that creative. This video though, gives some confidence beforehand, so keep up the good work! 🤩
Thank you for your kind words. Good luck with your journey, you can always go with the official colors. Nothing wrong with that. I'd love to know how it went.
If it works for Gunpla, I'll get this airbrush for my minis. Seems like a good introduction to airbrushing. Then I'll think on getting a bigger one after I move (also live in a small apartment)
It depends on what kind of colors you use. I have trouble making the airbrush work with Vallejo colors. Also, I can't tell you if Citadel colors work with that particular model. I have friends who use a different model of the airbrush and they have no problem with Vallejo colors. Please be aware of that before buying.
@@GiantRobolove IIRC these brands have airbrush paints. There's also airbrush thinner so I have options. I've also seen other mini painters using these airbrush, so is a safe investment anyways. Loos like a great budget option to get started in airbrushing.
I've just ordered this airbrush set after seeing this. I'll be using Tamiya Acrylics though, so I think I'll have to look up my own tutorials to find the thinning ratio I'll need. I'm guessing I need to buy a respirator mask and make a little cardboard setup to spray into now...?
Hey that's great to hear. So will you be using that for the Kaempfer? Unfortunately I can't give you a fool proof thinning ratio. However, I do know that the Tamiya won't need as much thinner as the Mr. Color lacquer paints. Maybe this can help you as a starting point: when I was painting the diorama base for my newest build, I used Tamiya color. I poured the color directly into the paint container of the airbrush and added just a couple drops of thinner into it. That worked out. I do however plan to dive deeper into the Tamiya color so that in the future I can give an elaborate answer to that question. Good luck and have fun with your build :)
@@GiantRobolove Thank you very much good sir! Yeah, I'll be using it on the Kämpfer first, going to paint it white after I've finished scribing new panel lines. Then make the weapons/accessories and thrusters gold. I understand neither of these are the easiest to get right so I have my work cut out for me 😎
Honestly I just snap what pieces I want to paint from the runner, sand the nub marks, and go outside and hit them with spray paint. They come out good, especially MGs.
Yeah I used to do that as well. The spray cans are a quick means of adding colors to the kit without too much hassle. After trying the airbrush, I have to say that I like the control I have over how much paint I want to use. It's a bit more refined.
Are you saying your paints never dry completely? In regards to durability, it depends on the type of color that you are using. For instance, lacquer paints by Mr. Color are very durable, whereas acrylic paints by Tamiya tend to chip here and there. So I'd suggest you always seal them with Top Coat to protect them from any chipping damage.
That was a great TED talk! I'm feeling very inspired! I could feel your giddy excitement at unmasking and shooting those final beauty shots. You've inspired me to jump into airbrushing and just give it a go, thank you!
This was the push I needed to get an airbrush. I’ve only ever used Gundam markers and brush/sponge work with mr. hobby paints/thinner and it’s never come out exactly how I wanted. But airbrushing always seemed so daunting to me- partially because from what I could tell, I had to drop 250-400 or more on a compressor, airbrush gun/accessories, cables and cleaning equipment/solutions. As well as ruining kits on bad painting. But- knowing that I can just get like a 60-100 dollar setup and have it come out like that? That’s enough for me to go for it even if it takes a couple tries to get there(lord knows I have the backlog for it 🤣), that’s always what I wanted my kits to look more like. Anyways, thanks man! You definitely got a new subscriber today.
Ikr! I was feeling the same way! Even now after a couple of months, I still won't upgrade to a full airbrush setup. I'm still so happy with this one. So, which kit are you going to choose first? Thanks for your support, I appreciate it a lot :)
@@GiantRobolove Good question! I have a couple high grades that I would like to mess with. I really want to do a metallic color scheme on Victory Gundam. Nice metallic blues and golds to make it pop. After a while, I’d love to paint my MG Sinanju with an airbrush. I am currently doing a reverse wash with rattlecans and Gundam markers to get the desired “sleeves” look, but an airbrush would make it easier.
That sounds like an awesome color scheme. Anything silver or gold is top tier. Sinanju is such a desirable kit, I love its design. Too bad the RG is such a mess. Yeah, I bet it takes a lot of time, since the designs are so finnicky. But I bet the result looks great.
i wouldn't left a kit unpainted unless i don't have mood to finish to begin with, because painting does elevate a kit finishes to some extend where original plastic look more like a toy to me than a finish piece, from my older days, there's isn't content like youtube because that doesn't exist yet, so all the trial and error is on my own alone, and i get massive satisfaction when finishing a kit
Word! I think from now on, there is no way that I won't paint a kit. It's just like you said, it's just so satisfying. Since when have you been building? Thanks for watching!
Great work! I'm going to look into this specific air brush. Did you do any sort of top coat before putting the water slide decals on? Your encouragement and uplifting attitude is as amazing as your content btw :D
Nope, no coating was used either before or after applying the decals. Though I admit, I should have used a Top Coat after applying the decals. But at that time I was unsure which one to use, because I didn't want to ruin the shiny look. Thanks for watching and that nice compliment :)

Yeah, maintaining a hobby gets even harder when kids come into play. Then of course family should be number one priority. But still, it's great to hear that you are making the choice. I hope it works out for you :)
This is insanely well made! Holy heck did you progress so much in so many aspects! Keep at it :D
Hey cae, thanks for stopping by :) and much thanks for the love
Good video mate! Hopefully this will encourage more builders to take the leap!
Thanks a bunch. Yeah, taking that step was the best decision. I take it you already have airbrush experience?
Planning on doing my first airbrush custom for a Gunpla meet up next week and unironically, it is also a Kampfer. 😊
Hey that sounds awesome. Wish you all the fun at the meet up :)
I NEED THIS! I needed to paint my robot spirits figures for a while now and this thing is a godsend.
Haha yeah, the cordless airbrush is really easy to work with. Happy painting and thanks for watching!
Vary inspirational thanks i have a compressor airbrush that i gave up on after one attempt. I think ill pick up one of these USBs and give it a shot.
Thank you :) How come you gave up? I was toying with the idea of getting a full fledged setup.
When I first started building gunpla a few months back a friend asked if I would customize and I said nah too much effort but here I am with paint, thinner and a airbrush/compressor. I’m just going to start simple and do the inverse colours of the tallgeese mg that I’m building
That's great man! Taking it one step further is always so rewarding. Have fun with the paint job!
Thanks, I'll check it out.
Ich Airbrushe grad den selben 😂 aber Mega geile Farben die du verwendet hast. Und ich schau mir gleich das abkleben bei dir ab 👍🏻😎
Nice! Und wie lief's bei dir? Welche Farben hast du gewählt?
Thats insane bro, i never do some airbrush painting but after see your video i think i need to do airbrush, thanks for motivation.
Yes please try it out. It does so much for your kits. I just love the smooth paint finish. Thanks for checking out my video :)
Tolles Video 👍 Verwendest du diese Mobile Airbrush immer noch? Also war die Airbrush auf lange Sicht ok? Ich freue mich deinen Kanal gefunden zu haben.
that's all I've ever wanted...a gravity feed brush with a small auto compressor...this thing is a total game changer!
Right? I still use it today and it's still awesome!
That looks so great!! Congrats on this project :D -- I had a huge grin on my face when you removed the masking!
Haha yes, I will never not love that moment of unmasking :) Thanks so much for watching!
Man, awesome video! Been holding off in trying airbrushing myself but this might just be what pushes me over the edge :)
Thanks Anthony! Go for it! I can't stress enough how awesome it felt when everything came together. I'll never not airbrush a kit from now on 😂
I love it, I too am hesitant to buy 1 cuz I really want to paint kits but now, I think I will buy one someday I will finish my Backlog
That is great to hear. All the best with your painting endeavors! Thanks for watching :)
I absolutely love everything about this video! The filming, the message, and just everything! Subscribing right away! You deserve all the recognition in the world!
Hey, nice seeing you here :) And also thanks for those kind words. I hope you are feeling better and life treats you well again. Looking forward to your content :)
nice custom for first time bro...keep it up!
Thanks man. I'll do my best.
Just get a kit that you're not too emotionally attached to and go from there 👍
@@GiantRobolove Cant recommend this enough, I only paintbrush so far but started on Entry Grades
You can do it!
Remember you always test out your mix and spray on paper towels first, so you know what is going to come out when you point it at your Gunpla.
Also, try buying some First Grade models. They’re like $5 USD. Super cheap and old and perfect for testing and experimenting.
@@mathieuaf25 from now on out I will airbrush all my kits. No turning back haha
Good job bro. Keep it up 😄
Thanks man!
bro is criminally undersubbed, quality of your vids are insane bro, new sub cant wait to see more😁
Thanks bro, it will come with time. Welcome on board! 😁
Very nice work! The dual color scheme is awesome. And your videomaking is professional! Impressive!
Thanks Natale!
Great video. It feels great finding someone on a journey too because I just started too. We’re but a few months apart
Thanks! That is so great to hear, which kit did you start with? And of course: enjoy the journey!
Thank you very much for this video! Not only is it beautifully produced and thought provoking, but seeing and hearing you describe your experience with this airbrush is worth more than the "pro" users' reviews. Danke!
Hi Tina, thank you for that nice comment :) Did you by any chance decide to get a cordless airbrush?
@@GiantRobolove Yes, I was concerned that it would be a complete waste of money, but now I know it will be great!
That's great. What are you planning on using it on?
That glossy look is insanely good on camera! Massive improvement on an already boss kit
Yeah, I love the Kaempfer and looking at it with the gloss finish always gives me joy. Thanks for watching!
i just bought a airbrush 10 minuts before you video showed up, cant5 wait to test it and play with it, good video
Haha great! How do you like it? Thanks for watching :)
@@GiantRobolove i like it, and it works, and good for priming, but i did buy a more traditional also to have options
Starting to repeat myself, but great video as always. Nice to see you and hope you're well.
Always appreciated, doesn't get old :) I'm all good, how about you guys?
@@GiantRobolove Glad to hear that. We're fine. Business as usual.
sieht wirklich sehr gut aus
Herzlichen Dank :)
this video means so much to me!
I'm happy it does!
Nice seeing another German builder ... feel like we are a rare breed with how inaccessible Gunpla is here :')
Sei gegrüßt :) Das ist wahr, ist hier wohl echt ein krasses Nischenhobby. Schade eigentlich...
It's a nice custom color 👍
The setting scene of the filming equipment was also interesting :)
Thank you :) I was so close to even adding a third, minor color 😅
That Arttystation booth is looking fine. Will be hard to get my hands on it here in Europe though. But thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye out.
There will be more build videos in the future. I will make sure to go more into details. Thanks for watching!
@@GiantRobolove thanks 🙏
OMG, this is exactly what I was looking for
Enyjoy the painting journey :)
When you remove the excess panel liner, did you use cleaners? If you did, does it not remove the paint as well? Thanks
Yes definitely. It's also so quick to set up and fast to clean.
I understand neither of these are the easiest to get right so I have my work cut out for me 😎
White/gold is a rad color scheme, very heroic. Good luck with build :)
Inspiring. I’m gonna do this!
Thank you! Good luck with your journey :)
Same exact hesitations I have over investing into a whole air brush setup
That's why this small cordless one is perfect :)
What if gunpla, thinner, tamiya and most things aren't available in my country. :( I so want to try it.
And your first time is so clean.
I'm sorry hear that. Maybe you can import that stuff? That's what I do from time to time.
Nice paint job! Next up try removing the seamlines before painting 👍
Thank you my friend!
Spray can lacquer never seems to not have a tacky quality. Does this air brushing finish feel pretty durable?
Are you saying your paints never dry completely? In regards to durability, it depends on the type of color that you are using. For instance, lacquer paints by Mr. Color are very durable, whereas acrylic paints by Tamiya tend to chip here and there. So I'd suggest you always seal them with Top Coat to protect them from any chipping damage.
That was a great TED talk! I'm feeling very inspired! I could feel your giddy excitement at unmasking and shooting those final beauty shots. You've inspired me to jump into airbrushing and just give it a go, thank you!
Again, thank you for checking out my videos and taking your time to comment. I appreciate this a lot, it's the best support that I can get :)
your video was very helpfull thank you
Thank you for watching :) glad it was helpful.
Agreed! Metallics and a lot of Gundams just fit. I really only like matte for grunt suits. I love the way the metallic blue came out on this Kampfer!
i wouldn't left a kit unpainted unless i don't have mood to finish to begin with, because painting does elevate a kit finishes to some extend where original plastic look more like a toy to me than a finish piece, from my older days, there's isn't content like youtube because that doesn't exist yet, so all the trial and error is on my own alone, and i get massive satisfaction when finishing a kit
Word! I think from now on, there is no way that I won't paint a kit. It's just like you said, it's just so satisfying. Since when have you been building? Thanks for watching!
@@GiantRobolove almost 8 years in now
Awesome work! What brand is your airbrush? Thank you
Hey thanks! It's called Autolock, You can find it on Amazon.
Nice!!
Thanks!
Excuse my French but that’s fucking amazing. Well done brother, you give me hope.
😅 Thanks my friend!
