What is the exact meaning of someone's identity? Is it merely someone's appearance? Their SSN? Their gender? Etc. Is someone's "identity" permanent or everchanging? What if someone is a public figure and they fall under the umbrella of public domain? Things are very muddy, not so clear and there are no easy answers legally or ethically to combat something as ephemeral as "Identity" Just something to ponder.
I want to invest in a company that can detect this synthetic media and deepfakes, and can make a way for the average person to automatically detect it as well. This is horrifying.
It's not that difficult. If you look at enough of them, you will be able to tell if something is real or deepfake. Usually there is a moment of glitch in all of them. Ps: I work with computer vision technology :)
I've actually been in the process of making a video covering many of these same topics and more. Sometimes I forget that this is such a relevant topic other people are rightly looking into it too. One of the things I'm personally concerned about is not only the creation of media that can fake the now. But also media that can fake the past. In a world where we are constantly trying to dig up things from the past to try to contextualize it, what will happen if somebody create something fake but so unbelievably convincing that we are put in a awkward situation or it even gets passed as real. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

I've actually been in the process of making a video covering many of these same topics and more. Sometimes I forget that this is such a relevant topic other people are rightly looking into it too.
One of the things I'm personally concerned about is not only the creation of media that can fake the now. But also media that can fake the past. In a world where we are constantly trying to dig up things from the past to try to contextualize it, what will happen if somebody create something fake but so unbelievably convincing that we are put in a awkward situation or it even gets passed as real. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.
what im more concerned about is a 'diluted' nation.. nobody really has the 'monopoly' of truth so the past can always be questioned. majority of the population just agreeing silently to the story told by the elitist or some beguiling mouth and thats how you create history. im even questioning now if history is even that important aside from science facts, the rest like politics and the likes are just crap. poticians get voted just by their name in history and not by credibility.
anyway whats needed is honing ones perception to able to diligently seive all these varied opposing ideas and information. individually, we become our own feeder of truth and identity with the advent of technology, we have the capacity to become globally aware and choose our own virtual world.

My husband and I have gotten off and deleted all social media no more Facebook Snapchat tick tock Twitter or anything else we barely ever turn the television on maybe once every 2 to 3 weeks possibly just looking for the weather on the news that's it. This is so terrifying you couldn't have even envisioned this in a movie plot 5 years ago. Five years later one could be sent to a prison cell or come up missing when the world thinks you are dead in a suicide or accident.

@@gregbors8364 As far as nuclear weapons are concerned I used to be on the same page. Then I discovered the only way to sanitize the Earth if something worse came along would be a sky net scenario. It’s actually been done in the past. India records it in myth Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu spreads out his 8 arms and says 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' There are unusual levels of radiation at ancient sites that modern science has documented. Plus there are some really horrible people on Earth and the only way to control them is to threaten to vaporize the entire planet.
So after robotics making factory workers redundant, now it's time for all of media, films, radios, TV etc to loose their jobs! Why pay an expensive actors if you can get a cheap one with same results. Just pay small fee to use celebrity faces and that's it! Not needed anymore. No more arguments, tantrums or sick days. I bet this is what media industry is waiting eagerly
