  • Introduction:
In this episode we visit the tomb of Pharoah Shishak and recall the story of Solomon’s marriage alliance with Egypt, told in the book of Kings.
The Pharoah Shishak is referenced in the Old Testament book of Kings. We are told in 1 Kings 3 that Solomon (the king of Israel) made a marriage alliance with Pharoah, king of Egypt. He took his daughter to Jerusalem, to the City of David. But the alliance between Egypt and Israel would one day backfire when Solomon’s son, Rehoboam, was king. Intelligence had been gleaned and Pharoah Shishak was able to invade Jerusalem and steal all of its treasures. God had warned Israel not to make alliances and so it proved to be a mistake years down the line.
    Looking Around:
Warrior King David had united the tribes of Israel. Under his son Solomon’s reign, Israel enjoyed a period of peace and prosperity. Even so, Solomon’s realm was small, compared to the mighty Egyptian neighbour to the South-West. Solomon’s marriage to Pharaoh’s daughter made political sense, but God wanted his people to trust in him rather than in political alliances.

We are currently doing the personal edition bible course. It is so well put together and alongside these videos, which are amazing! Bringing context and life to the whole story of the bible and helping us to put together the jigsaw of the bible in a way we have never experienced before. Our aim at the beginning of this year was to study the bible from beginning to end so we can be more effective and knowledgeable when sharing the story of jesus but also to better our understanding, and to draw closer to God in our own personal journey of Faith. Thank you both to you and your team.
