Back in the day, there were no good cups for titanium and we would have large cups machined out of teflon material.
Then we would pack them full of copper wool or other diffuser material and by trial and error, figure out what worked.
Now we have great cups that work much better right out of the box.
If you need to weld titanium, inconel, 4130, tool steel, stainless, or any superalloy, where gas coverage is super important...

These are always great videos thank you for doing them and for your time..
Thanks Jody
Amazing video Jody, pretty interesting as well. I've been welding Alu and Stainless now for quite a while and would love step it up a notch, this might be a good one.. Cheers champ!
Thank you 💙💙💙💙
Welded inco plenty but never ti, thanks!
At 3:48 the Fupa # 13 cup for 30 bucks is a steal if they work... never tried them.
I do use C&K cups, almost triple the price and sucks when you accidentally tap the clear glass on the welding bench so if these Fupa cups work they are one hell of a deal.
I bought tubes of glass and cut them on the lathe for my C&K set ups as just a glass from C&K was 30 bucks
Never welded titanium, but now I think i could.Great video.
Well, that’s honestly something I’ve never welded titanium pretty cool
Easier than aluminum
I use to 1st run a small fusion pass to ensure penetration at the root, then go back and add filler, maybe not necessary but it worked.
That definitely works on titanium. If allowed
@@weldingtipsandtricks Right, this was under 1595A, and PWA specs, no call out on # of passes that I recall...
Where did they get the titanium plates from I would like to buy some to practice with

Nice 👍💪
Used a clear cup to see through on a stainless job. Highly recommended!
I've never welded Ti or Mg, but I have welded lead and sterling silver.
Enjoyed the demo Jody, very interesting info. Thanks for sharing with everyone. Fred.
nice demonstration
Haha my very first thought was that I was sure one of the 1st tips is how easy it is to stick the filler rod if it drags rather than doing a proper dip.
Merci pour ces super conseils et votre gentillesse pour ce partage.
🤚
I miss welding titanium.
Way interesting
Thanks!
Any recommendations for preventing suck back on a tee joint with mild steel. Im practicing at the moment to test for the AWS D17.1
Same technique shown here on titanium helps prevent suck back on most metals for me anyway. Suck back on thin fillets is usually caused by a combination of things. Not enough filler, too hot, waiting too long in between dabs are probably the main things. Maybe some other welders will chime in
Its so sluggish! Id have trouble keeping the backside clean
it is pretty easy to nip if you go hot enough for it to flow easily. thicker titanium is much easier
Good
If i have a diversion 165, and I wanna order the kit with the clear cups, what kit should I buy? I know the torch i have is proprietary to the 165.
this kit has a 7 clear cup, 7 ceramic, and adapter kit for your torch weldmongerstore.com/collections/weldmonger-top-20-products/products/weldmonger-lucky-7-pro-combo-kit-size-3-32-for-17-18-26-style-torches
Always good clips, love it👍👌🇦🇺
33 years never welded ti.
@@mitchdenner9743 the close up shots are great, get the idea in your head how to work a puddle, regardless of the material
