I liked your comments. Every person can get something different from it, that is the great thing about music, but I liked seeing your reaction to it also, it seems very genuine.

Don't stress too much about understanding it. The song is purposefully oblique and open to interpretation. Ultimately, what I take from it is that in a bleak world, love feels heroic. You can be a hero by daring to love in the face of chaos and authoritarianism. The wall referenced is the infamous Berlin Wall, which represents division and oppression. Yet, here are two lovers engaging in togetherness and freedom through their love against that stoic backdrop and all it represents.

Hi, there! This song has many layers. It might appear as a love song at a first glance, but, if you think about it a bit longer, it has very strong political messages and it was inspired by the situation in Central Europe during the Cold War. Yes, "the wall" is the Berlin Wall, "we/us" refers to the common people living on different sides of that artificial border and "they/them" are the opressors. The message would be "Let's fight them, even if we fail, even if our victory will last for only one day!". If you analyse the video a bit, you can see that he is alone in a foggy night and a reflector has caught him form behind. The caracter he is playing is a simple young person, a silhouette at first, dressed in black clothes (to be less visible), unarmed, who has just been discovered by the guards trying to cross the border. In some parts, that border was the wall, in others it was a river, the Spree, that is why he wishes he could swim like a dolphin. The cross necklace he is wearing, made more visible by the open jacket and low neck tank top, is also important in the context, as religious symbols were banned on the East side of the Wall. You wouldn't believe it today, but simply wearing a cross in a visible place was a sign of rebelion back then in some countries.
