I went to see this movie in the cinema from 1989, a great set movie with a phenomenal apocalyptic urban landscape and while watching the movie I wondered if one day as a society we were going to reach that situation??? 34 years later and seeing our current world situation this movie will stop being science fiction and will become reality very soon, may God have mercy on us, God bless whoever reads this comment 🔥
Underrated low budget action film. Van Dams best. Some incredible scenes. Combination of futuristic Si Fi and Kung Fu fighting. The ending fell flat, but Arthur Pyn seemed to lose focus or maby budget considerations. But the first and middle parts are outstanding. Marvelous action and visuals and creativity and terrible beauty ! Loved this film as a kid. A shame Van Dam went bankrupt. He was one of the best action stars. Martial arts expert and good looking bodybuilder.
Thank you Paul , you perfectly described the movie, including the end. For me, the idea has such a huge potential even today, but with a consequent budget and some new scary actors and faces.
One of those Saturday afternoon Gems. It's quiet in the house everybody out doing something. It's just you, your favorite snacks and action. The fucking 90's
Ich hatte auch voll Angst damals ich war glaube ich 9 oder 10 Jahre alt hatte den heimlich mit meinem cosenk geguckt mein Vater hatte den auf Videorecorder das waren Zeiten
Sequel. Screw reboots. A sequel with an older Van Damme could work since he was technically older in this film's story. Hailey was a young adult by the time it is revealed in the film that she had been with Fender for years after the barbwire incident which took place when she was a teenager.
There is nothing to make a sequel from. So very few people remained on the planet. The ones that survived the plague eventually killed each other off and the killers ate their victims, while the survivors resorted to inbreeding. After some years nothing was left. Fender's death didn't stop that world from degenerating into nothing. That path started long ago.
There was second movie made starring Angelina Jolie in one of her earliest film cast. It takes place after the events of this movie and it turns into some sort of corporate feud.
To me, Fender was the best Van Damme villain ..just ruthless, douchey and super strong on top of a killer physique...and did he really need the gun? lol
I was 16 when this came out. A group of us when to the budget theater, and i was the only one who wanted to see Cyborg. So i went in by myself. 20 minutes later we all got kicked out. I never saw a crowd react so negatively to a film before. People were genuinely mad about the movie being terrible. So the manager booted everyone. I had to sit in the parking lot till my friends were done with theirs.. I never did see the whole thing :)
@@beanmchne Cyborg gets better as it progresses. Honestly, it's one of my comfort films. I like the dystopian barbarian punk theme. You can tell the crew did the best they could with what little they had. And they didn't have CGI to help them out. Like that scene from Lawrence of Arabia when Omar Sharif shoots a guy drinking from a well, you'll notice the pool of blood from the man's head steadily grow. And that was back in 1962. This coming from a 'snowflake millennial', I didn't care for Bloodsport. Jean Claude claims he wasn't proud of Cyborg, but it's more creative than him doing the tournament scene for the dozenth time. I liked Lionheart better. No oriental mysticism. No wise old master. No whiny overprotective girlfriend. No demigod American protagonist. Just brutal raw underground fighting matches for money.
for me the best van Damme film, Fender one of the best villains I've seen, there are no more films of this type, now everything is very commercial, I miss these films by silvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, fight from beginning to end
In the MMA classes the sensei put's me against men. When the man I fighted kicked me, I was always so quick by catching his leg and he stood their couldn't do nothing. My aggression and reflexes is so quick that the coach or Sensei could see I'm going to throw him to the ground, so while I stood with his leg, the Sensei immediately blew his whistle to stop the fight. One time I spiral against the Sensei self and I took him down on the mat so hard that I accidently injured him.

This movie scared the hell out of me as a child. Fender was something else

Bro you just hit home with that comment
Yes man
Agree, but it has to be night time
To me it was waking up on Sunday around 130pm, seeing Cyborg on the TV and reheating the leftover pizza from Saturday
I thought he had a Gatling, but it turned out to be just a Derringer. :D
When the kids would have a sleepover and I’d make a tent over the tv with early surround sound. JCVD would always deliver.
I like the fact that he honored the challenge of the duel with the pirate even though he could have easily shot him.
That villain missed his calling as a heel in the WWE. Only other thing I remember him in was Point Break.
Fender the god of all villains unforgettable movie, best of all time.
