I have a Pungo 120. Love it. The console was a big selling point for me. I go down to the river in the morning 3-4 times a week have my coffee and a scone.
The console cup holder accommodates a Jet Boil and I’ve brewed coffee on the boat. I use the jet boil because the pot attaches to the stove and I don’t have to worry about it sliding off.

    I'm 6'2" / 275 lbs
I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida
I've had a Pungo 140 for the past 6 years and I can't say enough nice things about the boat
Most people already know that it tracks likes it's on rails, has great secondary stability and a great seat
What many people may not know is that it handles rough water really well
Here on the Gulf Coast most of our paddling is done between the bay side of the barrier beaches and the mainland with the need to cross narrow inlets periodically
The waters of the bays are really shallow with the end result being that when a storm pops up we have to deal with the dreaded shallow water waves
Shallow water waves are short and tall and my Pungo 140 has taken on 3' waves both bow and stern on w/o any catastrophes

The FeelFree Aventura 125 is my second boat and you hit it dead on with the way it carves a turn when put on the secondary edge. It's loaded with features for the price and is great for the paddles I go on. I typically spend 6 - 8 hours, or more per day in my kayak paddling up to 20 miles per day. The skeg is a really nice feature especially for a boat in this price range.

@@HeadwatersKayak It's nice to see a good review on this kayak, before I bought my Aventura 125, there was almost zero information on it anywhere that I could find. I don't like buying anything without know a lot about it, but I took a chance and I'm glad I did. It's 12'-6" tracks well, is stable and turns on edge like a touring boat. Another great kayak is the Perception Sundance 12.0 although I don't think they make it any longer.

@@alangross2277 I also bought the Aventura 125 without any reviews and only a 2 hour trial run. Love the boat, literally my only complaint is the massive weight! But I guess it's got a lot of material on it, thick hull I guess. Does about 6.5 km/h while paddling and has more than enough cargo space.

I bought a tupelo last year for myself after trying out a friends a couple of times and loved it. I then found a really good deal on a used pungo and ended up buying that for my 12 yearold son. I have to say that after trying out the pungo I wish I had gotten 2 of them. Nothing wrong with the tupelo I just like the pungo that much better. Faster, more maneuverable and more comfortable. I can fish out of either one just fine. I have them both rigged up with rod holders and anchors. I love my son going with me and enjoying being on the water but I have to say I'm not disappointed when he doesn't go cause that means I get the pungo that day.

Thanks for the video. With prices going up next week, I went to Road Rivers and Trails, our local outfitter, to upgrade my daughter's and my kayaks from our Pelican Mustangs. She is over six feet tall and the Pelican just isn't big enough while I want one I can take on the Ohio River. She immediately was drawn to the Pungo with it's dash and larger cockpit. I liked it but wanted to also try a more sea oriented kayak in case I have an opportunity to take it to the Great Lakes. We went back the next day so they could bring a Wilderness Tsunami from their warehouse. While I liked the Tsunami, most of our paddling is recreational and figured I didn't need that much of a kayak.
I then mentioned this video and your review of the Axis. They had one in the store for me to try and let me tell you, it was a super tough decision. I enjoyed the playful feel of the Axis but at the same time I enjoyed the openness and stability of the Pungo. The rigging available for fishing poles, larger space up front for tackle boxes, etc. was a plus for the Pungo
At the end of the day, I also opted for the Pungo. Have to admit, I am still second guessing myself since I do like to get playful on the water. If money and storage were not factors, I honestly would have bought both. We pick them up this weekend. I look forward to trying it out on the water once the weather warms up a bit.

Because of this video I bought the Wilderness Pungo and I’m very happy with it. The seat is great and the dashboard adds a lot to the convenience of having everything you need just a reach away. In the hot sun my phone was overheating so I attached a a waterproof (orzo) container to the underside of the dashboard, now my phone is in the shade and in a water tight container. I also made out of pvc pipe a phone mount that I attached to the top of the dashboard with a 10” plant pot saucer on top (to shade the phone) and spray painted it blue and green to match the color of the kayak. Before I bought the kayak I emailed Dan to get advise on the two kayaks I had narrowed down to, and he kindly helped me out. Thanks Dan for the informational videos and your time.

Currently paddling an Axis 12 and love the way it handles, particularly with the skeg down. Started out in a Pungo Classic 12 and that was always a smooth ride with great tracking. The Classic had a design flaw where the mid-point of the seat wore through the hull (took six years and about 250 outings), but I assume the redesign has taken care of that. Since I am a big fellow and a long-lens photographer, I will likely go with the Pungo 12 next time to get the bigger cockpit. Only issue I might have is a place to secure a camera gimbal rig I built out of PVC that is affixed to the yak ahead of the cockpit that then telescopes, as needed, from the front of the cockpit to my belly for camera stabilization. I might be able to rig something to the removable insert. The Axis is about 6 years old but shows no signs of age other than the inevitable keel drags. Great review of just the group of yaks I would be looking at when the time comes. Many thanks

I have shot rapids in my yak, banged off of rocks, and really put it through the ringer and it always does awesome. Pungo is just a great platform that provides stability. If you like to play and lean more, maybe the Pungo is not for you. BUT, I can get mine to lean if I really try. I have done all kinds of fishing with the 140 and got into some amazing spots that I thought I was going to have to get out and carry the yak. I have used it on FL rivers and lakes, also during the summer on ponds and rivers in upstate New York and it is well suited for these waters. The edge and the seat adjustability is very very nice. It is bulky to load and unload so i came up with putting straps around the front third and the rear third, they act as handles so i can woman handle it going up and off the truck rack. I've have numerous cheaper kayaks and picked up a mint Dagger Blackwater 10.5 (predecessor to the Axis) this past summer. Wanted an Axis 12.0 but found the Blackwater on FB Marketplace. I'd say go with the Axis. Two lengths but they handle so well.

After months of research, I settled on a Wilderness Aspire 105 and because of the drop down skeg and the comfort features. I absolutely love it! Aside from the weight, 48lbs, it’s a damn find paddle. I also have the Oru Inlet, 20 lbs (big difference) and obviously it folds up. Each has it’s usefulness. Love to paddle, want easy access to water and COMFORTABLE PADDLE.

I know all about needing a quiver of boats, convincing my wife of that is another matter though!:) I’m looking for something that I would use in a variety of settings but I want it to be able to handle a little bit rougher open water if I ever get caught in it. There’s a semi deserted island about 7 miles out into the Gulf near here that I’ve read trip reports about. People paddle out and camp for a few days. That’s my dream trip right now. So far the Dagger Stratos is at the top of my list.

I am a part-time kayak guide. I have paddled Pungos many times, and I never really liked it. Now mind you these were Pungo 10 footers, but I felt like I was dragging them along with me, and their maneuverability seemed unimpressive for a small boat. It is however one of the most stable boat’s I’ve ever paddled. I can see why beginners like it. Maybe the 12 footer is better.
That Aventura looks interesting. It’s comparable in price and features to the Perception Conduit 13 which I have for loaners and have paddled often. I wonder how favorably they compare? The Conduit definitely has a weathercocking problem, and it does not have a skeg like the Aventura.
That Dagger looks very interesting. I recently paddled my first Dagger, a 14.5 foot touring boat. It was really nimble. I’m looking for a shorter boat, I might take a look at it. I’m currently looking for a 10 foot boat for narrow creeks, but the 12 foot Dagger might be a little long, but bworth looking at.
