      The indoor scenes look good (aside from the acting), but the outdoor CGI is awful. Actors in senior roles are unbelievable, too young / baby faced, back then a 30year old guy was half way through his life.

      Couldn't agree more. Terrible CGI. Practical effects would have helped the CGI along. It was bad.

    I tried to get through the first two episodes released. Man, it was a struggle! It was a show that I was really looking forward to, yes I will finish this show, but it will be a struggle. I loved Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Yes, many didn't like The Pacific but I was in the Marines and I know a lot about those portrayed in that show.

      I TOTALLY understand how you're feeling after the first 2 episodes.
      Trust me though, the later half of the season really picks up.

    The bomber crews had the highest loss rate for the US military. One would think it would be the Marines storming beaches in the Pacific but those bomber crews got shot up really bad. Every time a plane went down, 9 or 10 guys were killed or captured. When you're losing planes by the dozen during some of these missions before the long range escorts came along, those loss totals add up tragically quick. One of my Dad's uncles was a gunner on a B-17 in the 8th Air Force but aside from that, I don't know much. He didn't talk about it. Can't say I blame him.

    • @TheorySmack
      @TheorySmack  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah...after watching this show I was amazed at what these crews did. Literally just looked like suicide missions every time they went out.

      RAF Bomber Command had an even higher fatality rate, the second highest fatality rate of any military branch in WW2. Second only to German U-boat crews.
      It was around 45% who got killed. Out of 125,000 RAF Bomber Command crews, 55,000 were killed. Twice as many as American bomber crews.

    Small beef with describing the air crew as merely pilots. Pilots were a part of the air crew but there were many different jobs on the B17, pilots were senior officers but were only a percentage of the crew.

    • @TheorySmack
      @TheorySmack  7 месяцев назад +1

      My bad! Definitely an oversight. My favorite crew members in the show were actually the navigators.
      I told my wife that it’s insane what those dudes could do and I never considered how hard it must have been to navigate before GPS. Truly awesome

    A lot of people complained about the CGI in the trailer and the clips they released. It's a relief to hear that they might have polished the CGI before the final release.

    Gotta remember, all these were adapted from letters and memoirs - to even begin to string together a single sequence whether it be BOB The Pacific, or this, I believe these will be the best representations of the greatest generation we’ll ever get -
    Don’t forget, these were real people. I’d wonder if half of us in the comments here have the salt of those boys. Things to think about -

    My favorite episode is the one where they joke with each other before the planning brief, head off to battle, suffer loss, and then regroup and reflect at the end. That one is amazing. (Hoping you are right about episode 6)

    The Tuskegee Redtails never escorted the 100th Heavy Bomber Group. I not only expect technical accuracy from this series but also historical. This is a sop to the friends of the late George Floyd and as such is to be deplored as it devalues the experience. In addition Thorpe Abbotts airfield was built by John Laing who employed Irish 'navvy' type labourers.
    This is not to denigrate the Black P51 pilots but things are either right or wrong and are not there to be nuanced by the woke editors at Apple - it could have been worse it could have been under the control of.....Disney.

    • @NottinghamLacrosse
      @NottinghamLacrosse 7 месяцев назад

      They're not suggesting that the Redtails ever escorted the 8th Airforce. Captured Tuskegee men would have gone to the same POW camp as captured 100th BG crew. That's where their stories will intertwine in this show. I think it's a neat way of making the show diverse without rewriting history.

    The program was a huge disappointment. The usual Hollywood DEI crap crept in. CGI was woeful at times.

    I wonder how many viewers they will lose in the first half that never return. I would be one of them if I hadn't ran across this video. The formula of "bombing run of the week" that they had going on in the beginning made me drop the series.

    this show sucks. the characters have no depth. at first I thought it was an intentional nod to how plastic and shallow characters typically were in 1940s/50s war movies. But no, the writing in this really is as bad as your typical 1940s John Wayne rah rah war movie. How man times can that one guy with no personality say "Boys!" at the end of every line

    • @TheorySmack
      @TheorySmack  7 месяцев назад

      I didn't think it was that bad. But, again, I do think the first half of the show is pretty boring.
      If you can stick it out until the latter half, you may find it more enjoyable.
