these comments do a really nice job highlighting the songs that i'm about to look up - the first thing i went to do after both this and the wall-e video was go to look up that _other_ wonderful version of dan's theme _(the one i didn't already know thanks to your other videos!) and the beautiful remix of the thousand-year door's opening theme respectively, and both times your pinned comment highlighted them. i appreciate your effort to help people find the wonderful music you use - crediting music is just a good thing to do in general, but a lot of people often forget or overlook it, and your choices of remixes are both amazing music that deserve to be heard and appreciated, and a really significant part of your videos' signature atmosphere for me. thank you !

One of my favorite things is picking out the songs that match the topic, either vibe wise or thematically. Being able to find a Dan remix for The Incredibles worked really well for this vid, definitely one of my fave music matches 😀

one of the often missed importances of Edna Mode (looking at you MattPat) is that she is basically a good version of Syndrome. Money, smarts, dramatic personality, and a superhero nerd.

I actually like the longer-ish reviews. These are the kind of videos i save for later when i am going to have lunch, a good video to relax to while i eat.
The Incredibles was the first film for me where i had to find out everything i could about it, i enjoyed it so much, first movie that introduced me to dvd commentaries, behind the scenes etc. I don't know why but my favourite quote that always stuck with me with this film was the automated pilot "Would. you. care. for. more. mimosa?" voice and delivery is so perfect.

  • @TheRealJims

I wasn't expecting this review to be so long, but I think it's more of a byproduct of how much stuff is going on in The Incredibles. So many character arcs, themes, and specific plot points worth discussing. I feel like this is a film that is easier to write a video essay about (rather than a review), just because it hits so many interesting topics. Hope you guys enjoy the video!

I really love how well this movie handled superhero lore and family archetypes.
For me, it was the little touches that made the movie shine.
Bob's dealing with a midlife crisis, Helen's suspicions of Bob being unfaithful, how they bicker and fight:
That made me feel as if they're living, breathing, people.

Love the long-form reviews, don't worry about it.
Incidentally, from what I understand, this movie was originally going to be traditionally animated until Brad Bird brought it to Pixar. Indeed, this pushed a lot of boundaries in terms of animation, not just with rendering humans, but also rendering hair and cloth in various scenarios like being underwater.

Ah, thanks for this. I was kind of wondering how he felt about the review these days, but I was too shy to ask him out of nowhere. I actually found his original Incredibles review fascinating, and it left a big impression on me at the time. I didn't personally agree with his conclusion, where he went with it, but he did hit upon something fundamental about the film's tone and worldview. One of those, "I don't necessarily agree, but this is a fascinating take" situations.
I felt he influenced my view on the film enough that I should cite his observation about it. I kept looking everywhere for the review online, so didn't know if he changed his mind or it just got taken down.

This film will always be my favorite out of any of the Pixar films. The action, music, and especially characters are what make the film amazing. That and it's much more mature tone when compared to other films that came out at the time. That and the voice acting is brilliant. Here's hoping that Incredibles 2 is just as good if not better.

I feel like when it comes to syndrome, it was obvious he actually could have become a superhero. I feel like, because of his intellect which is his superpower, he was overlooked due to his physical appearance and ability. When it comes to people saying that this movie shits on regular people, it kinda shows how the under utilization of people with alternative abilities can lead to problems within society

It's interesting that you found comparisons with Brad Bird's work on The Simpsons. For me the more obvious comparisons are with Bird's earlier film The Iron Giant. Annie Hughes (Hogarth's Mum) reminds me a lot of Helen Parr, not just in terms of character design but also in terms of roles in the story; she is, like you said, similar functionally in the narrative to Buzz in Toy Story 2. (Albeit with much less screentime) You've got the little kid who's fascinated by superheroes (Hogarth/Buddy) and the Giant robot that gets smarter as the film goes on. (Iron Giant/Omnidroid) So Brad Bird revisited a lot of older ideas and in some ways really expanded upon them or subverted them.
What do you think of the alternate beginning to The Incredibles? The deleted scene of them at the housewarming BBQ where Helen has a go at some careerist woman for being condescending towards stay-at-home Mums, and Bob accidentally chops his fingers with a cleaver and has to pretend to be injured? There are some people who like that much better as a beginning but I think the way they did it in the end with the flashback to the glory days was on the whole the better decision; not only do we get some good action sequences but also more natural character intros to Buddy and Helen, not to mention Bob himself. Starting in the present would have made it a very different film entirely, which I find very interesting.

      Okay, let's see...
      Ratatouille fits the bill.
      Inside Out fits the bill.
WALL-E's spaceship could count I suppose, but it's stretching the definition of "early".
Toy Story 3's Sunnyside kind of fits the bill, but it's stretching the definition of "city".
My money's on Inside Out, because it fits the bill and you put a "have" rather than a "has" which is grammatically correct, making me think you subconsciously put it there meaning multiple. (Also if IO comes before R I'm out for blood)

I know it's not a new idea for what Syndrome represents, and I'm sure it's probably not new for the comment section either, but Syndrome also seems a bit like a representation for the toxicity of taking one's fandom too far. Where one can get harassing towards, or even violent towards the people they supposedly idolize. Along with a potential shot at certain, similar types of fans who always have the attitude of "I could do better than the professionals", because something didn't go specifically their way.

  • @blameitoncapitalism

I totally agree on Frozone's disappearance and on Gazerbeam's "Kronos" discovery. And I always wanted to see a short film portraying Gazer's journey from investigating the scheme in Syndrome's, ahen, "agency", up to him being killed in the cave but not before he could laser write in the walls the password to the computer so whoever is investigating next gets a easier chance to discover the plan by having the access to the computer files. It could start right on a action scene, with winning the fight with the robot (in Mr. Incredible's scene in the computer we are shown that Gazer actually defeated one of them which prompted Syndrome to built a better one) and getting back to Syndrome's Island headquarters, for he's also working for Syndrome, like we remember Bob would do later. He's received by some other assistant, so we know that back then Mirage wasn't on it yet - that's a plus, we can then sense Mirage didn't knew much about her job and wasn't involved in the killing of others supers, only being recruited to work for Syndrome by the time the hunting for Mr. Incredible starts. that way it's comforting for us the audience, cuz let's be honest we love Mirage and now it's easier for us to make up our minds on how easy we forgave for being the main villain's sidekick. Anyway back to the story, we get to see Gazer, the assistant and Syndrome himself interact and the boss pretending to be a great and genius CEO for a great cause, while we the audience know that's he's just lying, using his powers and manipulating Gazer into his own death. But then, after a mission, instead of just leaving, Gazer hides himself in the island to investigate - he's NOT being deceived by Syndrome after all, he was faking it all along, but he is actually intrigued and suspicious, for he does not trust Syndrome. Now instead of "oh poor him" we're like "oooh, he's good". Iada iada, investigations, manipulations, fight scenes montages. He ends up discovering the password computer. Better yet if he pretends like he knows the current password and mischievously put it in the assistant's mind to replace it to "Kronos", maybe by indirect suggestion and mind games of some kind. Then, other day when he's infiltrating to access the computer, and manages to read the plans, he's caught. Syndrome immediately goes "kill him" to his super hight tech death machines - you see, no need to the classic villain monologue telling the hero he could just kill right there his whole plan, we already know it, we seen in the original movie. Persecution scene, great action, Gazerbeams can actually fight! but he's mostly smart and resourful, so he manages to scape the attacks and goes for syndrome, who uses his assistant to defend himself, and she gets killed. Gazer is SHOOK. Syndrome seems to care about her. They seems to get along this whole time. That establishes how little he cares for his "coworkers" and how disposable their lives really are for him. Again sympathy point for Mirage. The tension of the situation gets one or some of Syndromes robots (not one of the gigantic quaduped balls, just regular 4ss robots) to drag Gazerbeam out of there to "take care or him". Symdome is left alone with the body of his assistant and as misterous music plays, we get the awnser for if out of the hero's eyes, was he bluffing or not, does he feels for the passing of his coworker? well, no. He looks down on her body and goes "eh, that happened before I expected. Anyway she knew too much." he calls some cleaning robots to take her out and some of those scanning robots we seen in the canve scene in the movie to make sure Gazer is found and taken. He was out of the frame going "guess I have to ding miself a new assistant... the end goal is nearly here." Then it cuts to Gazerbeam's struggles. He manages to outsmart the robots and make it to the main forest in the island. he's of course found, and huge battle scene ensues, and it's great. He winning. until he's not. he's badly harmed. He goes to hide in the cave. He starts to lazer in the password. He knows that this will call the attention of those looking him, but hell, he knows its a matter of time until they find him anyway. He need to send someone a message. someone will finish what he started, he believes. it there's no way anyone is gonna fing Syndrome unless HE looks from them, like he looked for him (like we know he'll look for Mr. Incredible). And in that case, the only way for them to know it's all a lie, is to reading the data in the computer. Also, any tips he left to a investigator that clear enough for them to understand it without any other information, that would be too obvious for the Syndromes people/robots not to get it and erase it. So... the PASSWORD! Syndrome may not change it, because the only two people who knew it are dead! And if it's hidden enough, the robots wouldn't catch it. btw. A robot goes in. It's a type we seen previously in this film. Oh, didn't I mention?? While Fazer was still "happily" working for Syndrome and they were totally getting along, we seen an experiment, a new robot he's testing that realeses some shit I can't really explain here, but that dissolves living beings skin and flesh. We see when Syndromes is testing in a room full of birds and rats, and then after a big blindind light, there's only their skeletons. So yeah. The same robot goes into the cave. And he know the rest. From a far away frame, we can see the light coming of from the hole in the cave. Then we see the black, sad, burned, inside of the cave. The camera goes moving sort of like it does on the movie scene. we don't see the skeleton, but we can see the point of view of where his eyes were pointed to: K R O N O S.
Also, on a lighter note, I would love a short movie showing us Honey and Lucius familiar life together, starting with him coming home from "bowling" that night, she obviously not buying it, they having a fight, then making up, then having a normal, cute, romantic and fun life together. Up to the moment when, of course, he need his super suit. guess that could really be a short. the other one I imagined would probably need about 45 min, like a medium length. but anyway. Hire me @pixar please

So I remember watching this film when it came out in theatres in Christmas of 2004 and I was in the US at the time. Indiana to be precise. We were between watching this or "The Polar Express". I'm glad we chose this. This film, in my opinion, rounds up the Pixar Golden Age perfectly as the fifth masterpiece after the first 2 Toy Story films, Monsters Inc and Finding Nemo. Only before Cars came out. I'd say this is my 3rd favourite.
It really does juggle a lot of mature, adult themes despite it also being aimed at kids and was probably the first Pixar film to be aimed with more adults in mind than children. Also the fact that it was directed and written by a single guy who put so much passion and effort into it as a newcomer for Pixar speaks volumes of his creativity. The way how all the characters are so intricately developed and work together as a good family dynamic reminding you of your real life family is step number one to create a timeless film.
The villain though, might be the best thing about the movie without a doubt. Bob is also a really compelling hero, don't get me wrong. But the ways how Syndrome is willing to take his fanaticism and worship of superheroes because he can never be a naturally born one to the extreme by wanting to be recognized by society is a powerful message and cleverly foreshadowed in the prologue as someone who just wants to be recognized. Mirage serves as a good antiheroine who works for the villain during a great portion of the film but ends up warming towards Bob at the end. She is a really sneaky character but you do see the humanity in her and it's nice to see her eventually dump Syndrome. The revenge from Elastigirl thinking this was all infidelity on Mr Incredible's part is funny to see though also really devastating as to what she thought wasn't exactly that, meaning their marriage wasn't completely in danger, but their lives definitely were. I love the kids and the screen time they get but Dash's long run scene has to be my personal favourite I always looked forward to when I was a kid which I also remember being hyped in a trailer before watching the film.
Also the contrast of the urban life with all the action-packed sequences is a genius setting for the audience to feel exactly what the characters are feeling and the adrenaline rush you get as the film goes on with the Prologue already setting up the big tone before getting into the serious story and stakes. It's also one of Pixar's funniest films packed with exceptionally funny moments and the actors' deliveries really sell them. Frozone and Edna Mode are both amazing too.

The one thing I disagree with is the message of how we "Treat those with talent/power.'" America, at least, idolizes them and does not in anyway try to tear them down. They accept their words as gold in commercials. They cheer on athletes who punch cab drivers, are suspected of rape, have a public divorce that involves domestic violence, and routinely forgive racism from anyone who even is suspected of being special. For the love of God, there is a person who can launch nuclear weapons who was proven to be racist, sexist, xenophobic, a liar, a cheat, a womanizer, and a person who refused to denounce hate groups.
There is no way you can tell me this has anything to with repressing 'special people.' I would instead cite X-Men and say this movie is a metaphor about people acting strongly with fear. All of Mr. Incredibles feelings stem from a mid-life crisis. Dash is simply children having to deal with authority even when they have a case that they are already beyond that authority, which is something we deal with as children, which is what his father deals with as well. I believe that there are three stories here. The women who want to blend in., and the men who want to stand out and refute any authority figures. The third is a boy who feels he isn't special because of his idol, and wants the ultimate revenge. There is more philosophy there, but that is the gist. It blends together with them both teaching each each other the middle ground. Live within the rules, but strive for improvement.

I know you probably don't care, but the main character, Luffy, is has the power of rubber, his whole body is made out of the stuff. Although working slightly differently to Helen (Luffy works kind of like an elastic band while Helen is more made of Playdough, if that makes any sense), the author still finds a lot of fun ways to use Luffy's power. The main one being his Gear Changes, where he do stuff like force his blood to move faster, in turn making him faster and stronger or biting into himself and blowing air into select parts of his body like his fist to become gigantic and doing lots of damage. Considering the show in Japan is comparable to The Simpsons during the 90s (yeah, that level of popularity) I recommend reading the manga (but not watching it because of it's super slow pacing). If you want a better understanding of the series, then watch Super Eye-Patch Wolf's video on the matter.

I kinda thought you would talk more about the supposed Objectivist attitude to it, personally I think the movie more moderate then people think, not that the smartest and strogest should automatically rule (which Brad Bird failed to do again with Tommorowland) but simply great power comes with great responsibilities. Syndrome is like a dark villain with an Randian attitude like Lex Luthor as a War Profiteer with no national loyalties with his own island. People thought he was gonna make regular people like even ground as the supers with his tech... pfft the rich would get his best toys. The Supers direct heroics were mostly volunteers, on the dvd extras some Supers had some side business, but mostly just work as civil servants on good terms with government that just got pressured by the public.
I had almost an essay long argument against Confused Matthew review, he was my rival for a while (though he now mellowed out)

Yeah, I like the classic superhero style of letting people with talent go all out, but socializing that towards the common good. It's that faith in humanity, that people with power will try to use to to do good, if allowed. Sure, some people won't, but then the heroes will fight them. I love the Incredibles for that reason.

    K.
So the top 4 are Wall-E, Inside Out, Toy Story 3, and Ratatouille in some order (since IIRC Cars 3, Finding Dory, and Coco don't make the cut since they're too recent for the series).
Not a terrible top 4. I wouldn't rate Ratatouille that high, but those others are definitely in my top 5. The Incredibles ranks well with me though.
I still have issues with how low the other 2 Toy Story films are ranked, but I guess in a studio with so few bad films I guess some films need to get sold short here.

    • @TheRealJims

I'm rethinking my Toy Story 2 ranking. I feel its final act is really weak by Pixar's standards, but it's probably not enough to make it tumble all the way to #10. A lot of people put up good arguments in the comments why I might be underrating it. Honestly, #12-#8 on the list were all ridiculously close for me and were the hardest group to rank.

    • @Snakie747
      @Snakie747 6 лет назад +3

I've got a soft spot for Toy Story 2.
I actually have a hard time with Toy Story 3, it's one that I go back and fourth on depending on mood, though most of the time it's in my top 5. There's no denying it's the best of the 3 from a technical perspective, and probably from a storytelling perspective, too, but it borrows so much thematically from the first 2 films that in some ways it feels the least relevant of the 3.
Very eager to hear your thoughts on it. It's a film I love to death but also one I feel does suffer some from being a second sequel that doesn't always go as far into new territory as it should. It's a movie that totally blew me away when I first watched it though, and it still holds up 7 years later, it just looks a lot better in a vacuum than it does in context as the "third film".
Would also be curious to know where Coco might have ranked in this series.

Sorry if you mentioned this and I forgot in my malaise, but I think you had the points around it though didn't directly mention it- but notice when Syndrome is a good guy/optimist he kinda does fit that "mediocrity" Bob complains about. As Buddy, he's just a kid with dreams he doesn't have realistic knowledge or expectations of.
He could have still grown up "normally", remained an optimist and still done great work, but I'd like to think Syndrome's spite fuelled much more of it even if it wasn't the catalyst. While Bob is- to put it very bluntly- tired of the "participation trophy mentality", Syndrome comes along and makes technology that's actually kind of spectacular, rising above the crowd like Bob would like to see- yet Syndrome ends up the villain.
I think it kind of makes him a stronger antithesis to Bob, when he does rise above mediocrity and provided a thrilling antagonist and adventure as Bob romanticised, yet Syndrome was a terrible person and seeing him helped Bob to regain more perspective on what supervillains were really like and how these thrills had more consequence than he thought of. Because again, Bob romanticised his old days.
There's also how what Bob thought was just blunt honesty, not that big of a deal, just getting a kid off his back- made Buddy crazier and created this twisted villain- Buddy was already a bit loopy, but being rejected by Bob was his turning point. Having a connection to this kid before he became Syndrome, as brief as it was, also grounds Syndrome more than just a supervillain for Bob. I'm not just saying he's more than a flat character/audience gets to see Buddy go bad, that's blatantly obvious, I mean I think this is even more perspective for Bob as well.
But aye, for one thing I might just be trying to sound smarter and just ended up repeating points you touched on enough (and you probably wouldn't have to use up time on this one thing in this review lol), for another I haven't watched this film in a few years and may well be misremembering parts of it. However, the themes of it and most of the scenes always stuck with me so well. I would say you make me want to rewatch it but honestly, I always want to, I just never use my free time on movies.

    @Rubberman202 Год назад

Prerequisite: In this comment, I'm about to talk about objectivism, a political philosophy developed by Russian-American writer and philosopher Ayn Rand, a philosophy which, at least from my understanding, basically boils down to certain people believing that there are individuals out there who are "objectively superior" to others, that those superior people should act out of their own self-interest ("rational egotism" as they call it), and that in doing so, in letting the superior do what they wish without being restrained by governments or bureaucracies, society will flourish and everyone will benefit from it. Perhaps I'm off the mark, but just by looking at certain Ayn Rand quotes and what she wrote, I feel like this is the basic idea she was getting at and I'm... very much of the opposite opinion, to put it mildly. I just feel like getting this out of the way is necessary for what I'm about to say about this movie.
So... I've always loved The Incredibles, and while I still do, Brad Bird's Tomorrowland and the pretty overt Objectivist leanings in that movie have made me take another look at a lot of his works in a different (and a bit more uncomfortable) light. I've seen people say The Incredibles is basically the kid's movie version of Watchmen, but that's only true if Alan Moore was on the opposite end of the political spectrum; really that comparison is kind of ironic given that the original pitch for Watchmen was to take a line-up of characters DC had acquired from Charlton Comics in a darker direction, in particular many characters created by Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko, who was a huge supporter of objectivism and injected that philosophy into the characters he wrote for, both Spider-Man and the Charlton Comics characters. Watchmen was meant to be a complete deconstruction of that very philosophy, whereas in The Incredibles you have bits like Dash saying "[Everyone is special] is the same as saying no one is" or Bob ranting about how people are finding "new ways to celebrate mediocrity" while criticizing how Dash's "graduation" is just moving from the 4th grade to the 5th grade, or how Bob and every other superhero's predicament came about because the masses were ungrateful for all the heroics the objectively superior (and therefore righteous) Mr. Incredible does for them, thus forcing all supers to live mundane lives and suppress their natural gifts. Even the main villain is just a regular person, jealous of his former hero and misinterpreting his rejection, intending to manipulate the masses into thinking he's something he's not, at the cost of dozens if not hundreds of super lives.
...Of course, that's just A read of The Incredibles, I don't know if Brad Bird really is an objectivist, but a lot of his movies have similar theming throughout them, and the objectivist views feel a lot more obvious in light of Tomorrowland's more blatant objectivist views. Really, I completely forgot about that "celebrating mediocrity" line from Bob until relatively recently, and upon being reminded of it, it just opened a whole can of worms about whether or not Brad Bird genuinely believes this kind of stuff, stuff that I'd honestly rather not think about while otherwise watching this fun movie about a family of superheroes.
But just so that this comment isn't a complete downer, I'm just going to list off various things I like about this movie: I like how Bob and Helen kind of reverse mindsets between the beginning of the movie and after supers were outlawed, how Helen was eager to prove herself but now just wishes to do what's best for her family while Bob was getting exhausted of heroics was was thinking about packing it in before he was essentially forced to stop and now wants to relieve the glory days. I like how Dash and Violet are also opposites in that Dash wants to embrace and use his powers while Violet wishes she didn't have them and just wants to be normal. I think Syndrome is ultimately a fun villain while also being one of the most psychotic of Pixar's villains, how he feels justified in his actions just for being snubbed by Mr. Incredible (who honestly has legitimate reasons for not wanting "Buddy" as a sidekick, which had nothing to do with the fact that Buddy wasn't "super", despite what Buddy believes), resulting in the deaths of many otherwise innocent supers just to further his goal. I really the comedy of this movie, it honestly feels a lot funnier than the Pixar movies that came before it (though given Bird's previous work on The Simpsons, I'm not surprised). I like the commentary on Superhero cliches, which is funny considering how big superhero movies would eventually get a few years after this movie; in particular, Edna Mode's rant about capes is iconic, and more than likely gave a lot of people pause for thought on why superheroes even wore capes (mostly because Superman did and everyone just copied him, though the Genesis of that goes deeper since a lot of his original design was based on conveying visual shorthands to showcase his super abilities, from the underwear-outside-of-tights look being based on what acrobats and strong-men wore at the time, to the capes that wrestlers and athletes also wore). I love Samuel L. Jackson... that's it really, I just love that guy in everything he's in, even his less-than-stellar roles, which this is DEFINITELY not. Lastly, I love the cameo appearances by Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston, the last surviving members of Disney's Nine Old Men at the time of this film's release, praising The incredibles and being all "that's the way to do it", which serves as nice bit of meta commentary of the old guard of Disney passing the torch to this new generation of animators and animated movies. Really, there's just to much to love about this movie, I didn't even get into the awesome action this movie has, though that's honestly because I don't have much to say other than it's awesome! Really great film, even if it has some subtext that I'm not a fan of.

I am in a similar situation to you with this film, however part of me can't help but wonder if this film could also speak against it, note how similar the ideas Bob and syndrome have vs Helen. I think on some level I think when the pro and antagonist agree it's usally to highlight flaws within the hero. Part of me feels that was done here to highlight this aspect of Bob's world view. That could be me over analyzing though

I don't think Syndrome is a good or perfect villain. Looks more like one of Disney's dumbest, vain villains of all times. Why don't it be Mr. Incredible sends Buddy home, but the kid doesn't become evil. Instead, he decides to leave Mr. Incredible alone and continue be good while respecting his decision. Instead of Buddy being the villain, why don't their be a terrorist who's trying to destroy the city or maybe the whole world who is. Plus, he's the one who killed the previous superheroes because he knew they were going to stop him from destroying the environments, so he manipulated them to his place to simply end their lives. My description for the terrorist is a very big body-builder with extremely huge muscles. Also, he's dressed in black tuxedos. Anyways, flash forward, the Incredibles try to stop him, but of course, he captures them. That's when Buddy becomes Syndrome himself, who saves both them and the day with those laser things, very strong muscles, and other things he invented, which he shows Mr. Incredible that you can save the day with and without superpowers. After Syndrome apologizes to Mr. Incredible for bothering him over partnership, Mr. Incredible accepts his apology and, this time, his help, Syndrome and the Incredibles defeat the terrorist permanently, then they live happily ever after, never become enemies AT ALL, just life-long friends. That would've been better. The ideas for Syndrome in this version is stupid, dumb, silly, needless, endangering, idiotic, pointless, and extremely retarded. Being a superhero, as well as sidekick, is dangerous and risky. If Mr. Incredible didn't want him as a sidekick, well that's his rightful decision, considering young Buddy could've lost his life as a powerless kid. Being evil because your favorite hero doesn't want you as a sidekick, so you tried to kill all the superheroes, that way, you can become a superhero yourself? Well, that's just stupid and truly risky. My idea for Syndrome has got to be better. Anyone agree or do you have something else?

But I'd also like them to do something fresh and new and not get really stuck on old themes or even. I don't want Helen's arc to simply be a reflection of Bob's.

    • @TheRealJims
      @TheRealJims  6 лет назад +6

I admit I have a pretty surface level understanding of objectivism (my eyes always glaze over when reading about it), so this is a bit above my paygrade. I guess I do see the angle of "society preventing supers from reaching individual greatness" aligning with it. But I feel Bob's character arc goes against such a purely individualistic life focus. And the work he is doing is fundamentally altruistic, the focus is on others' well-being, it's not like society is preventing him from starting a railway empire. Not sure about his other work, would probably have to rewatch The Iron Giant with that in mind.

You rightly point out all of the great aspects, themes and perfect beats, but you describe them as if Bird and creators somehow stumbled into them by lucky chance and therefore deserve no credit for their perfection. From concept to story to dialog to sets to music to color to art and even to the technical animation, this movie does not put a single frame out of place. To me, this and Ratatouille (Bird x 2) stand as 1 and 2 in the series with the others quite far behind. The Incredibles jumps ahead simply because of the cultural and historical significance of being the first truly GREAT superhero movie.

That kind of shows how "jealous" you are when something is so good so well done that you try to take it down by pointing out everything wrong
And sometimes they try to prove they're better in some way.
      (Kinda like syndrome) 😏 huh.
