Hi Tiago, I have a 8 Inch Orion XT8, which I am very very happy with it, and now I want to dive into the Realm of Astrophotography by getting myself a Equatorial mount. One question I have, since you have also done astrophotography is that Does a properly setup gear for a dobsonian, such as mount, camera, field flattener, etc truly will allow you to take good images from lets say Andromeda or the Ring Nebula as comparable to a 4 inch refractor? I know this question is hard to answer and much depends on the skill of the astrophotographer, but maybe a better question is that "With a Dobsonian can you take as good or even better photos of Nebula's and Planets the same as a refractor?"
@afshinp5819 man i would have to write a book to answer. The refractor is for wide field, the SC for deep and the newtonian is good on both. I prefer newtonians and their results, aperture is king
I Bought my Dobsonian telescope and started some visual and astrophotography since 2021, and i dont know why but watching your videos and live sessions, i started to feel astronomy more addicting.
The best reversible upgrade I made was a magnetic clinometer on top of the tube, and a geological compass (0.5° precision) with level bubble on the base. I can find anything with enough precision. Adjustable feet are also a good upgrade. I own a 8" dob, so the weight is not an issue. I also put a steering wheel spinner knob to move the tube, stainless steel knurled thumb screws for the secondary mirror adjustment, and stronger primary mirror springs. That's the beauty of the dob, you can customise it easily.
only problem i have with my dobsonian is the sensitivity when i try to move the center of the picture to a planet i either move it to much or to Little i thinking adding either a mechenical system that allows me to fine tune the movment or a system with electric motors and a simple joystick done
It's a matter of getting used to that. Find the best tension in your altitude bearings and azimuth knob and move the tube very very softly. The upgrade of the 3 legs i show at the video also help me a lot to move it softly. You can see me doing that in my live streams. It's a skill, to fine tune a large dob. Not easy.
good video & agree on all of the upgrade, i am have of them :) i am the owner of 10inch and 16 inch dobsonian, recommend to anyone who still wants to have a dobsonian + has to travel to escape light pollution, spend a little bit more and get a 1416inch truss tube with a light shroud, fits in almost any car and you can do the set up urself. any bigger and becomes awkward to transport. The best telescope is one you will use most often. if it is not truss tube, 12 inch would be the max or else will not fit in your car. If money is not a problem, get a 12inch + schmidt cassegrain with EQ Mount (you can still do visual but can also switch over to astrophotography if u wanted to. I am not rich enough to do the above but my friend has 14 inch celestron schmidt cassegrain and the view is much better/clearer/crisp than even my 16 inch dobsonian.... and he very limited collimation issues (only has sometimes for secondary mirror) so he only has to wait for the cooling of the mirrors. I envy him but he spent $20k USD on his set up....i only spent $3k and get a "similar" view with my 16 inch dob.
hello thank you for this unique report As the years go by and as they get older, do 12 dobson owners abandon their large telescope for another much lighter one like an 8 dobson or SCT that is even more manageable?
@@jackfrost4033i didn't. I kept it outside permanently inside a shed. Works like a charm. Watch here ruclips.net/user/livemlUBPtHp4zc?si=WQi9p5MiUVWK2DtH
Coloca demasiada pressão no espelho. Eu enrosquei eles mas se não tiver rosca pode fazer como eu no de 8" ruclips.net/video/c18C22wSwY0/видео.html
I miss my 10" GSO dobson. I threw it off the balcony from 8m height. It still worked. I will pass it on to my children. I saw ALL planets, star clusters, galaxies (virgo cluster). Only astrophotography i never tried. I cannot wait to build my first own telescope, grinding the mirror! Incredible that we can grind a mirror that allows us to see billions and billions of miles, with just pyrex glas, time, and grit.
Upgrading like an engineer! 👍Have you ever tried merging the power of dobsonian with the power of night vision devices? I think EAA is superior, but NV is a big leap for visual, yet NV is expensive and very sensitive to bright objects
That foam looks very fragile, I end it up getting a thick yoga mat same color, black. Fbut way more thick and strong for only 15 dollars. By the way I love the handles idea on the bottom and top 👍
@DobsonianPower . At least I still have an 8 inch dobsonian. I followed your advice and put a Telrad finder on it. It was the best thing I ever did to a telescope. Great advice 😉
8 inch DOBSONIAN telescope FIRST MODS you should do right away: ruclips.net/video/6cvjqBIR7cs/видео.html

@@DobsonianPower Do you mean newtonian mounts for a dob or newtonian telescope?
@@mylogify newtonian on eq mount works better for pictures but a dobsonian is a better set up for everything

Thank you for all your videos very realistic, personnal and optimistic 😀😀

This is what i wanna upgrade to and your rooftop set up is great!
Love the idea of using magnets as a counter weight, thanks.
Very effective 👍
those are some really good mods, i didnt knew about some of them. thank you very much, i will try some of this upgrades in my 8'' dob
I like the feet you added - nicely solves storing the tube upright. Did you have to drill and tap the base to add them?
@lordlucan529 in this telescope no i didn't. It has 3 threads. But in my 8" i had to drill. Here: ruclips.net/video/c18C22wSwY0/видео.html

Hi, What’s the chain for? And you have great information in your videos.
The chain is only to add more weight. It could be any other object but the chain fitted well there

Of course. I would love to try NV but it's very expensive.
Thank you sir.

should work as well. The foam works fine, i have it on all my telescopes.
fantastic !

One of my biggest regrets was selling my 12 inch dobsonian and now they cost $1000 more today in Australia 😢
Ufff that hurts

@lightbridge1695 oh the 8" is a very nice one, you're fine
Do you use a push to
My sky has a pollution 3
Is a 400 Dobson (on a trolley) adapted ?
Thanks
No. You just need a telrad on Bortle 3. A 16" is a good telescope but as it's heavy it's better to think in a good way to move it

@astrothib587 and at the end it's what gives more pleasure, to star hop 👍
me without a telescope😅
Yeah. Dump the civil war era cannon mounts and get a good German equatorial mount for your scope.
