That was so epic. The best real world video I’ve seen from the 1 Inch 360. Amazing work. Needs to be watched in 4k on a big TV.
Thanks Glenn! I really wanted to show off what it was capable of 🙂
Great stuff. I love how the hyperlapses came out with the camera on the extended pole. That bit of bounce made for a great effect.
Interesting! I didn’t like the bounce
That was epic! Thanks for sharing!
Epic video, missed you by about 5 mins. Was just behind you coming up that evening
Thanks Graeme, amazing evening to be up there!
Love watching your videos, you do make me laugh at some of the things you do or say. the colour with the 1 inch is fantastic. your closing shot from 11.50 is superb. cheers
steve
Thanks Ste! 🙂
awesome shots! thanks.
So enjoyable! Great video, Stephen!
Thank you 😁😁
Nice bit of kit Stephen, was looking forward to your latest video :) was gonna check out binnian on sat morn all being well! hope i get a nice day like you
Thanks! Binnian is a great hike, well worth it.
Thats a great review of that 360 camera Stephen. It's hard to beat a cup of tea on a winters day
Amazing the difference a warm drink will make to mood on a day like that!
Incredible views Stephen, I so very much enjoyed watching this video! I like how the camera act as thought it's a FPV drone in many occasions. The footage and color is incredible compared to the small one (X3). 8:17 is a much deserved victory for you; I cannot stress out how tiring is it to do everything all by yourself and I applaud your courage for always going out to shoot videos, edit and upload. Fantastic work! 8:26 racing against the clock! I hate it when you know you are almost there but the sun keeps going down so fast LOL 9:00 should have had a victory dance like "Rafiki gives baby Simba a blessing" LOL
Thanks John! 🙂 yeah was tiring, 7hours out carrying 14Kg of kit all day. Glad you liked it 🙂 I’ll have to dance again next time 😁
8:17 is a drone shot I think
epic drone footage too! Nice review. You made the one inch shine
Thanks
We love the near perfect days! :) A wonderful video Stephen
Thanks Phil. Nothings ever perfect so near perfect is the real perfect if you think about it. 🤔
Wonderful showcase of your filming, editing, the camera and the beautiful Mournes Stephen 🎉😎
Thanks Miriam! 🙂
No 1, speechless, can't believe what I just saw, you are very talented Stephen👍
Thank you Hans! 🙂
Awesome footage from the 1 inch. I recently got this and did a quick test. Loving the creative freedom this gives me. thanks for sharing your thoughts👌👌
thanks!
Sunsets on Binnian are the best. This video gave me a good start to the day, loved it 👍🏻
Thanks! 🙂 glad you enjoyed it
A really excellent video. It was particularly useful to be able to identify the 360 shots.
Thanks Ian
The scenery is so beautiful in this video. It's inspiring me to seek the beauty of nature. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks Michael 🙂
Such a great video Stephen. Now I really want an Insta 360!
Thanks! 🙂
WOW that was great. Such a difference seeing you in an area that is not 100% green. The clarity of the camera was outstanding and I like the camera moves to get those unique shots. Awe inspiring location and your film making just keeps getting better. Question since you finished while it was dark did you sleep there too? I would think it a bit tricky to walk back in the dark.
Thanks! You’ll like the next video then, it’s another snow one 🙂
No I hiked back down the mountain in the dark, used a headtorch. Actually about 4 other people doing the same who climbed up for sunset. The way down was shorter as I took the long way round to climb up.
Great work! The improvement in image quality from the X2 to X3 was pretty significant, but this looks to be on an entirely different level. It looks like its form factor might be a little big and heavy though for running.
I’d love to see some lower light tests in the future, even filming at night, to see how the 1-inch sensor holds up. That’s of course where other action cameras are basically useless.
Yeah it’s too heavy for running, not designed for it either.
For lowlight it works best in an urban environment where’s there’s lights around. For low light in general, it’s better than the X3 but still a bit muddy.
I’ll make make a test and post it on my tech channel.
Have watched this video a few times Stephen. You're incredible at what you do. For me you're the best creator from Northern Ireland hands down. You're actually one of the best anywhere lol That final shot!
Thanks Chris! I got so lucky with the weather for this one, just worked out perfect for what I wanted to achieve.
@@StephenJReid I went out and got the Insta360 1-Inch and the extended stick after watching this. Can't wait to use it! I showed my mates that final shot and they had the same reaction "wow" along with the music.
What a superb video. The various ice formations were amazing...And yes a video on the Mourne Rangers please.
The 360 camera was fantastic and it was great to see you sitting with a cuppa on the summit in a state of satisfaction...
Ps...drone footage was excellent as was the music. Very best wishes
Thanks Andy! 🙂 I’ll have to call the rangers for a collab!
Dude, that quality 🤤, really cool video.
Thank you! 🙂 it’s a very nice camera
Amazing footage Stephen, I don't have a camera for my trail runs but now I want one!
Thanks Nigel. This wouldn’t be the best option for running as it’s a bit bulky. I use the Insta360 X3 for running
Stephen you are damn good at this, absolutely loved this. Uplifting educational and just that little inspiring too. As you rightly said, I do have to admit, that was epic.
Thank you! 🙂🙂🙂 worked hard on the video so very glad you enjoyed it
@@StephenJReid the one thing about being full time at this I suppose is you can nab these perfect days when they come along and put them in the can, just because you can.
I’m sure it has its down sides but equally you are not beholden to another jobs work schedule which is a gift. This video is the fruit of that arrangement and it sure shows. Keep at it. I hope you persist and not only live a good life through these films but become fabulously rich.
The latter bit there just because there’s no harm in a little icing on the cake as well as on the mountain 🤣
Thank you! 🙂 Although I’m not fulltime at this, I still have client jobs that’s my main income. My time is split, but I do still have enough flexibility to catch some good days. Unfortunately I also miss loads of good ones as I’m working on client jobs.
Wow, great video. The 360 and pole set up looked like it really added to the overall video. Location didn't hurt either :) I was just looking for samples of the set up, but found a new channel to sub to. - Ian
Thanks Ian, welcome to the channel 🙂
Epic mate that's fantastic
Thanks Alan!
Love your stuff. Keep it up.
Thank you! 🙂
Was a brilliant night up there. One of the best sunsets i seen. Nice video matey
Need to go watch your video! Yeah was an incredible night, wish I’d had my camping gear with me but already carrying 14kg with all the cameras 🤪
@Stephen J Reid the weather got really windy through the night. I think my bad was 17kg ha
top class footage , camera looks awesome 👌
Thanks Dave!
Well this is exciting to watch! I love the X2/X3 but the footage was never able to cut in with my higher end A7IV/ FX3 footage unless everything was perfect OR the shot was so unique no one would notice.
Stephen - what is the front pouch you are using?
Yup I was using the A7IV here as my other camera. That’s the Helikon-Tex Numbat, great bag. Very useful on a bike too.
Awesome video! I've been looking at these insta360 cameras for a while but couldn't decide on which one to choose. You've just made my mind up for me. Thank you.
PS, the 'ice feathers' are known as hoar frost. They occur when moisture in the air hits a frozen object and extruded by the wind. A common sight in the Scottish mountains.
Aha, I wondered. Someone earlier said it was rime ice but I though that’s what forms on boats.
@StephenJReid just had doubts, double checked and it looks like I got it the wrong way around, and have for years! Rime is firmed from moisture in the air and Hoare is direct deposition from water or ice.🤦
Amazing footage!!!! Did you walk all that back during the night? Wow...
I love the 1-inch edition. Makes everything so much better quality! Although a little heavy to hold when running. Wish there were more pixels though, although the file sizes would be monstrous. Also wish they had a soft sleeve like the X2 or X3, I really don't like the silicone cover at all!
Thanks for a beautiful video...
Walked back a shorter route. Had a headtorch but it seems like forever in the dark. Can’t wait to see where 360 tech is in 5years time
@@StephenJReid yes. Can trust Insta360 for their creativity.
A big LIKE for your great video. I immediately subscribed to your channel. ☺️ - The camera is superb. I really like the camera and last took it with me on a tour of the fjords in Norway. Greetings from Berlin, Germany 👋🏼
Thanks Sven! 🙂 Fjords in Norway look incredible, definitely somewhere I’d love to visit some day.
@@StephenJReid If you like, you can find a short trip summary of my tour along the Norwegian fjords on my channel.
gr8 as ever Stephen!
Thanks! 🙂
Stephen that was both epic and beautiful! 😍
The quality of the 1i is incredible compared to the X3 which I bought with your previous affiliate link, so hopefully you do get a small cut from that? 😄
Would have loved the larger sensor, but can't quiet justify the cost yet - I mainly film charitable litter picking trips with it 😅
Couple of questions:
What is that chest bag you're wearing?
At 1:03 how is the camera mounted? Have you wedged it in your backpack or is it handheld? Hard to tell even with the shadow.
Yeah it’s a big jump in quality and a jump in price to justify. I’ll be still using my X3 for a lot of things as it’s more compact.
Chest pack is Helikon-Tex Numbat.
All the shots I was just holding the camera on a pole.
Yes please do a video about the Mourne Rangers and camp with them. It would be interesting to hear what they have to say about the pollution in the Park or the crazy stuff they saw. Thanks Mister Reid!
I'll see what I can do :-)
Absolutely amazing video fella!! What sort of footage would it give from a helmet mount?
Thanks! Not sure what it would look like on a helmet. Depends what you are doing though. It’s not designed for action sports
Just watching now, great video. I’ve got a couple of questions.
Do you find the additional weight of the 1 inch, bends the 3m pole more? Does it become more noticeable upon reframing? Also, what colour profile did you use in the camera? I know you mentioned colour grading in post.
I’ve just sold my x2, can’t decide between x3 and one inch. I’m all about the quality of the footage, but that new dive case makes the x3 so tempting. As I occasionally do go in the water. But I could use GoPro for that. 🤷🏻♂️ Choices, choices.
Thanks.
What a beautiful day out! Great edit, thanks for the review. The IQ looks great except for the red rectangle (seems to be reflection from the sensor, not lens flare) that appears when the sun’s at a certain angle to the lens. That looks a bit problematic to me.
Seems most 360 cameras suffer from flare like this but it’s more obvious with the 1-inch, possibly due to larger lenses/sensor
Wow, that's pretty impressive! Like drone footage almost! Funny how you can see the shadow of the pole but not the pole in your hand! Just found your (excellent btw) channel as I'm reviewing the Odalance headphones and you're on their site. Great how you can use it for a portrait or landscape footage in post production... Although my laptop wouldn't cope with 6k, it'd take me longer to edit this than to run the whole race lol! Have you run far with it? I film my trail races but not sure if I could hold out that long a pole for any length of time, maybe summit shots and not racing. Does it have a mic for chatting to camera? Currently use a Hero 8, the stabilisation and mic is great for most conditions. I got my friend to 3D print me an attachment to mount the GoPro on top of my running poles too. First use UTS 50k this weekend. Thanks for the vid! Sorry this comment got looooong, Claire
Hi Claire! 😁 Been following your stuff on and off for a few years. Welcome to the channel.
I’ve used the 1inch a couple of times when running but prefer the smaller X3 and not the 1inch. It’s lighter, cheaper and more waterproof. Although there is a small drop in quality.
I keep the 1 inch version for hikes.
You can see a good example of the X3 being used in a race here: ruclips.net/video/33_QNi7tOro/видео.html
I keep it in my running vest along with GoPro and bring it out as needed. Does take a bit of practice using during an event. Have to be super careful with the lens, once smack and it’ll crack easily. Also if it’s rainy, the lens gets coated quickly.
It does have a mic yes, but trickier to shield from wind than GoPro.
All the best with the race!
@@StephenJReid Hey Stephen thanks so much for the quick reply, that is great to know, and hope to meet you at a race someday! Subscribed! :))) Keep up the cracking work :)
Nice video from Mountain
Thank you!
Class, both the 1-inch 360 and the filming/editing. I think we’re close to the point where a cropped 360 is as good as a GoPro. P.S. I thought you would have stayed to camp
Not quite GoPro good yet, but getting there. It tends to still be soft around the edges but you’re not really looking there. High frame rates lacking too. I was really impressed with how good it does look
@@StephenJReid hmmmm can’t make my mind up 360 or GoPro
Honestly I think a GoPro might work better for what you need currently.
And he manages to crack me up even on an epic video
😁😁 Thanks Snoop
I have been watching the 360 for a while. I'd like to get better videos than my S22 ultra can make. This might be what I was looking for.
It's a great camera, and I need to use mine more. I juuuuuuuuuuuuuuust wish it was properly waterproof!
Yeah you gotta pick your use cases for it
Nice video!
Yes.. it would be very interesting to know more about the...hmmm...dont remember what it was...Mouiriieeenneer ranger or what the name was... 🙂
/ Matti in Jokkmokk
Mourne Rangers 🙂 Yes I think I’ll try and do a video with them. Thanks Matti
if they could get the 1 inch sensor into the x3 body....id be sold
I doubt they will ever get it down to that size due to physics, but that would be pretty cool
Any recommendations on a 3m stick that can support this camera and the rode wireless go without bending?
Ice feathers ASMR when? :P
haha Good idea!
If u can convince me otherwise why i should return my X3 to get this 1" camera i need clarification first! Firstly when u export it ends up 2.7k? or is it 4k?
Also, I forgot to mention 10:45 (Stephen: This is the REASON I do what I do) - The incredible views, the peace of mind and the adventure is all worth it! Incredible!
Yup makes it special 🙂
Didn't know we had Mourne Rangers. Would love to find out more about them.
Yeah they started last year I think. I’ll try and make a video about them.
What settings did you use when shooting this video? Vivid color profile? I'm considering getting one of these cameras.
Normal profile and then I play with colours afterwards. I
what's the camera you usually use for your vlogs?
That is staggering , but how much computing power do you need? my computer struggles with 4K and changing laptops every few years feels so wasteful.
If your computer struggles with 4k, it would be slow to work with 360 footage. It does take a decent amount of power to get the best quality from these cameras. Or just patience as it’ll work but will be slow
Link to the pole, sir?
Insta360 one RS 1 inch or GoPro 11 ?
Did you use the Extended Edition Selfie Stick? (36cm to 3m) Insta360
Webpage excludes the RS 1 inch Edition in their compatibility list. Is it safe to use and Is it 100 invisible? Please advise.
Yeah I used the extended edition but I didn’t extend the final section, which I found kept it more rigid with the larger camera. I also tried to hold it so the lenses are horizontal so if there’s a bend in the pole, it falls in the blind spot
Got you! Thanks
Yes - Mourne Rangers Vid please
Noted! 🙂
Do you not worry about the lenses getting scratched/damaged? Is it heavy on the long extending pole?
I assume the insta360 Lens have a cover! :)
They have covers for 30$ on amazon
Yeah I worry about it but have to be super careful.
It’s heavy if you hold it for a long time.
I like it i think i chose the 1 inch than the insta x3
It’s heavier but better quality
@@StephenJReid its good in low light condetion stephen ????
@@RabiiHayani it’s slightly better
I can’t believe it’s £900!
Yeah it’s pricey but you have to compare more to a mirrorless camera than an action camera.
Ohh, that looked like a perfect day :-)
The 1 inch might have the X3 beaten on IQ and such, but I bet the X3 beats it when it comes to stitching, just because it is such a fatty.
Stitching was less noticeable than I expected tbh. Big advantage of the X3 is the weight and it’s designed for action sports. The 1-inch isn’t
what's the other camera setup that u use if not the 1RS?
Other camera was the Sony A7iv
@@StephenJReid no wonder it’s crispy AF. Tq
Oh god I need to stop watching your review videos they’re costing me a fortune 😂
Haha, you don’t have to buy it Stephen!!!
@@StephenJReid lol but it looks epic 😀 loving the biolite by the way 👍
Currently using my Biolite to see where I’m going while reading this. Camping
5:32 is from insta360???? I think no
Insta360 shots are labelled
Epic 🤩🤩
How was the descent in the dark? 🫣
Also, a video with the Mourne rangers sounds interesting 💪✌️
Thanks! Had a torch so I could see where I was going 🙂 felt long though than during the day
720р resolution of your video🤦♂️
My iPhone gives 4K video 😂🤣😂
The video is 4k…
