funny i figured eclipse would release a metal trigger frame/ back cap "kIt" as an upgrade to the standard Gtek. Then later release what most would call a Gtek 2? Eclipse surprised me on this one. I wonder if the price of used standard Gteks will drop a bit now?? Time will tell... Thanks for the vid, top notch as usual madman....
Excellent review and comparison! So I am finally upgrading to a speedball gun after years of playing with Tippmanns lol. I am very torn between the Gtek, the axe pro and the Gtek 160r. Any personal recommendation for someone who's never owned a speedball gun?
All of them are great, reliable guns. Really it comes down to what feels better in your hands, and what kind of deal you can find. I would look at Axe 2.0 as well. I still use my original axe as it was super cheap, simple, and is still going strong. Really no need to spend money on a new one as often as I play.
do you think they would do something like this to the etek 5 platform? I honestly think it would be a huge improvement because I hate the composite stuff
Nice video, could you maybe do a 160R vs the Shocker? I was already leaning towards the shocker from your other video, but now that the 160R has come out I am hesitant on getting a shocker.
I don't think I'll be able to get the Shocker RSX in again :( but in my short and humble opinion, I think that if SP wants to compete with the Gtek 160R, they'll need to make a new gun. Every advantage the Shocker RSX had over the Gtek disappears when you compare it to the Gtek 160R
Every advantage? Wha? The shocker is still smaller, lighter, comes with a Freak and does not have an external air line. They are both great guns, the GTEK is more efficient the Shocker has a softer quieter shot. What separates them is mostly user preference.
TheBroz I should have cleared that up... "every advantage that mattered to me" :) I don't think trading off performance to make my 5 lb setup 4.7 lbs is worth it. Also to me it's worth more having a more reliable air feeding system than a hose-less build, especially if it means tool-less reg disassembly. I still like the Shocker, don't get me wrong. I just think the 160R far outperforms it
+The Madman +The Madman Tooless I'll give you but I wouldn't say the shocker air feed is any less reliable. I've never known of a problem with the feed or reg on the shocker. People really drank PE's koolaid on the AT pipe when reliable hoseless guns have been being made for a long time. I kinda take issue with bigging up the PE manuals these days. In the last year or so they gutted their manuals of all the awesome maintenance stuff which was brilliant for new and old ballers alike.
It’s not cs1 is iv core completely different the sfr hisses and the shot is slow and the bolts slow now the cs2 is the quick quiet punch. Now if compare gamma core models but iv is way different and an apples to oranges. I shoot a stealth might get a cs2 eventually but with the new .684 dye cf s barrel And ul s tip it’s accuracy is comparable. I’d rather buy paint and keep getting better I also have to play rec with an emek
I just uploaded a comparison between the Axe Pro, Gtek 160R and Shocker RSX ranked in my order of preference. You'll find it as the most recent upload in my channel. Out of those three choices there is no way to go wrong :)
My theory is the the 160R was to keep ppl out of the used market where they would likely pick up a used CS1 or Geo. At that price point you can get a brand new marker with similar performance.
160 R should be better than the 3.5 going forward for the obvious reason. both guns r identical in almost everyway and the 160r is brand new. meaning PE will bring out upgrades to this line. 3.5 i thought they were done upgrading that a long time ago
David Stutz Lol wtf are you talking about??? You literally cannot even put the 160r in the same sentence with a geo 3.5... It has an infinitely better board, better regulator, better bolt, better ASA, and literally every aspect of the gun is infinitely better...
Drake Snyder Don't bother with either. With the same money you can buy a used geo 3 or a bunch of other high end guns. Just make sure to do your research before buying used. What could be wrong with the gun, and making sure there is complete proof it shoots well.
It’s worth it but is not needed if you don’t mind extra vibration. Cs2 160r etha2 gtek Emerson. Gamma core best drivetrain and most robust system ever created in a high end oh yea and 105 GP psi operating
Nick Garcia There's no point. The LV1 is PE's flagship poppet high end marker meanwhile the Etek5 is just their newest Etek which is a mid end. Cannot compare the two.
I want to, but the only way I can make a video review for a gun is if I own it or if someone wants me to make a video and lets me use theirs for a long period of time. Currently, I do not own or plan to own a Shocker RSX :( I think they're great guns, but I there's more for me to enjoy in the 160R.
chillstep4life Someone let me borrow it for a while. The Shocker is a gun that I want but don't want to buy if that makes sense. I am making a video though, I'll elaborate on that idea then.
I think it's wonderful at even the highest level. Is it beginner friendly? maybe not, because of the price. For beginners I don't think there are many guns that convincingly beat the Etha 2
Stick with the Etek :) trust me. Anyone who tells you to get a used Ego 11 is telling you to get a gun that might be up to 6 years old, those are bound to have something wrong with them and it'll take a bit of knowledge to fix it on your own. Considering ANS still has Ego 11s in stock you might be looking at new. The Ego11 has a lot more to offer out of the box, all metal, it has the high end PCB, and the milled Shaft 4 BUT It will take a DART kit to make the Ego 11 shoot like an Etek 5 and that might be another 60$
The Madman What are you talking about? Luxe 2.0s are just as old as an Ego 11 and I've yet to hear someone I know on a facebook BST get one that doesn't work. And mind you that's a SPOOL that's known to be high maintenance. An Ego 11 is one of the most reliable poppets. The Etek5 isn't exactly new either, and the Ego 11 definitely has better shot quality, a MUCH better board, a POPS asa, and a better barrel.
***** *slow clap* Thanks for the input, but this has nothing to do with the quality of machining and reliability and everything to do with the seals on the gun and accumulated dirt, grime, debris and overall wear. Screws wear out and rubber wears out. Six year old guns have old rubber in them that has probably been used quite a bit. Reg seats will pop (and its debris can potentially damage the solenoid if it makes it past the filters), seals will rot, and leaks will occur REGARDLESS of it being a poppet or a spool. The only way to prevent this is to do constant preventative maintenance and to completely disassemble and inspect your gun every once in a while. Most players do NOT do this... I don't want new or undecided players risking having a good time on the field because they're too busy repairing (or having repaired) a beat up gun that they bought because some know-it-all on the internet told them; especially when they will be 110% better off with a brand new gun that will work more than perfectly fine and is backed by a factory or seller's warranty in case it doesn't. I believe people should only browse the used market when they know what they're looking for or just want to see what they find. Guiding undecided players into it is leading them astray in my opinion, especially now with such a rich retail market.
The Madman You can get a used Ego 11 (which is in general a much better gun) used for cheaper than a Etek 5 new. An Ego 11 in good condition used will outlast any new etek 5. Also sure, do your research of course. Don't be an idiot and immediately go online and gift money to some dude selling a "Mint CS1" for $300. l also understand that you can't tell players to buy used without writing a how-to novel or making 5 videos on how to do it safely without leading them into a potential bad buy. But if you do your research then you'll see there's almost no point to buying new sometimes. I bought a used luxe 2.0 and been using for a year with no problems, I couldn't imagine myself using that money to buy a Gtek with a less-than-perfect board. Also the Commenter asked which gun was better, and the Ego 11 is hands down the better gun of the two, everyone knows that. Not to mention the ego 11 is only $100 more than the Etek if both guns are new, with that $100 you get a POPS asa, a much better board, a shaft4 barrel, a non composite METAL frame, and a smoother shot. The POPS asa and the Shaft 4 barrel already nearly double that $100 difference alone, not even mentioning the board or the frame.
The 1.1 is on a higher level and is a true high end, but it's 200$ more. So you are getting more gun with the LV1.1. This doesn't mean however that it is the right gun for you to get. Look at the spec book and compare the things that matter to you and if you have a change, get ahold of them and look online at how complex maintenance is. I think this is actually a good topic to make a video on (how to research what gun to get)... I guess I have to say thanks! lol
+The Madman Thanks for the reply. The reality is I am heavily considering both - just not at the same time. The $200 difference is part of the challenge as that is not a huge difference to get a "high end" marker when considering the price of a new CS1. Also, I do suspect the current 1.1 price point days are numbered. Will a new EGO be released soon which will likely be priced closer to the CS1...mmm???
There is no reason to buy this over a 3.5 if you're willing to spend in that price band. I don't think it will overtake the 'mid' level market either, especially with SP dropping the price on their RSX MSRP to 700, further gashing the resale value. Why buy a new GTEK for 200 shy of a 3.5 and 100 more than an RSX new? It seems to fall in an awkward spot.
Two things that make me question your argument - The retail market is significantly larger than the used market. Treating the used market like the standard is a little naive. - The Axe Pro was 100$ cheaper than the RSX on release and on a very similar level in performance and still it was no contest in favor of the RSX (there are plenty other examples of the exact same thing) I guess that what can be summed up out of this is that *most* people will buy what they want to shoot over what costs them less. Every gun has a list of things they offer, be it price, ergo's, efficiency, reliability, build, electronics, softness of shot, brand, resale value, etc. The player also has a list of his own regarding the things he wants in a gun. When it comes to making a choice, it comes down to the accumulation of individual factors that the player values, not just a single key factor like price. I believe the 160R is a gun everyone should look into because I think they should try to not miss out on the Gamma Core at it's highest level yet.
I don't think it is naive at all to focus the pinnacle of the argument on price, as this is clearly focused on the entry tournament level player. Everyone shops differently, but most level-minded folks would INITIALLY look at a price to performance comparison once they know the type of feel they want. When the difference in performance between this and the 3.5 is more measurable than that of the gap (objectively) than the GTEK and 160R, people will look at the used market. If not, I believe they would look at the list of features and ask themselves why they are paying $800, before inevitably dropping more on barrel back(s). While I do prefer a lengthier gun and there are a lot of variables to selecting 2 markers in the same price bracket, some will gravitate towards what they know, which I think will be the 160R's niche. All that being said, I have no interest in this market (although I used to) and am just giving my opinion on what my thought process would be. While I have no qualms with PE (I even own one) I do not think the 160R will be nearly as successful as the GTEK was. Time will tell!
We actually appear to agree on more than what it looks like. I'm not denying that price is a huge factor, because it clearly is. More Ethas are sold than any other gun in Eclipse's lineup, more Rizes/Rails are sold than any other gun in Dye's lineup, more minis and axes are sold than the rest of Empire's lineup... this goes on. Where we seem to be divided (which is totally fine), and where my main argument is, is when a price range is established and the player is looking at the choices in there and with the whole used market discussion. To set it straight, I never will recommend someone get a used gun over a new gun. To clarify, I think it's only sensible to buy used when it's a gun that you already want and you are sure you want it or if you see something you like and have the chance to snatch it for way less than retail. Trading is something else entirely that I think can be very fun and enjoyable if you know what you're doing. Debating the different sizes of the retail vs used market would not be productive, this one is obviously in favor of the retail market or else we as a sport would be in really bad shape D: The big positive to picking new over used is that I think buying a new gun puts the player in a more secure position (factory inspected, fresh packaging, no worn parts, no issues and a warranty if there are issues) AND it puts money back into the sport, especially when buying locally, which I think is crucial. That's my take on it and what I like telling people, obviously they can do as they choose and we are free to disagree :)
+Wesley Lin after the $80 oled upgrade, which is included with the R, and a better trigger the difference is negligible, to have all the composite parts made from aluminum.
Congratulations you saved yourself money lol. Only thing you get here is a better frame... I call bullshit on the difference in shot quality. Also you get the same board. If you were really going to go in the $800 range you might as well get a RSX Shocker which is infinitely better than either of these.
Best paintball channel with Paintball Ruined My life. Honest guy, with complete enjoyable / funny review of a lot of marker

You need to make a 170R video
nice review, but you should turn down the music a bit, sometimes it is hard to hear excactly what you are saying. :(

Very good job man !!! Greetings from Germany
I'm planning to get a gun but I don't know what's the difference between GTEK 160r and the cs1
Where did you purchase your 160r? I cant find that color scheme.
do you think they would do something like this to the etek 5 platform? I honestly think it would be a huge improvement because I hate the composite stuff
I don't think it's something that they'll do with LV1.1 at 995$
If we do see it, I'd expect it to happen after the release of a new Ego.
+The Madman Unless they try continuing the etek platform... which is a pretty bad idea in my opinion
At 9:33 thx for making it clearer for a sec i thought it was a bad gun😁
Awesome video. sums it all up and is very well explained
Hey I'm trying to decide if I want the etek 5 or gtek or gtek 160r

the 160r seems more like a low cost cs1 than an upgraded gtek
true
It basically is
SSniper14 PB It's basically the same thing a geo 3.1 is to a geo 3... same internals different grip frame.
It’s not cs1 is iv core completely different the sfr hisses and the shot is slow and the bolts slow now the cs2 is the quick quiet punch. Rennfahrer555 Probably. But similar proformance is false. The 160r is a Gtek with a metal frame that comes with the shitty OLED board.
Would you reccomend making the switch from an Etek5 to the 160R?
Anything is better than a poppit
+Paintball mag Sure...
It's tru tho
160 R should be better than the 3.5 going forward for the obvious reason. both guns r identical in almost everyway and the 160r is brand new. meaning PE will bring out upgrades to this line. 3.5 i thought they were done upgrading that a long time ago

Awesome review Madman, keep up bro!
I am looking for a gun to upgrade from my gog enemy, I have all the other gear and am looking for a better gun. Should I buy the Gtek or the Gtek 160r
If you can get the 160r
if you have the money yes if not the gtek is fine the 160r is just a upgraded version the gtek still shoots great (i dont own either)
Great review. Keep it up bro
Can you put a pops ASA on the 160R?
Yes you can
soon they'll start selling them if you don't already have a gas thru POPS
The Madman have you done a etek 5 vs lv1 review?
Nick Garcia There's no point. The LV1 is PE's flagship poppet high end marker meanwhile the Etek5 is just their newest Etek which is a mid end. Cannot compare the two.
Please do a shocker review!!!
I want to, but the only way I can make a video review for a gun is if I own it or if someone wants me to make a video and lets me use theirs for a long period of time. Currently, I do not own or plan to own a Shocker RSX :( I think they're great guns, but I there's more for me to enjoy in the 160R.
I thought you had a shocker did you end up selling it?
chillstep4life Someone let me borrow it for a while. The Shocker is a gun that I want but don't want to buy if that makes sense. I am making a video though, I'll elaborate on that idea then.
The Madman alright can't wait
The Madman I have a shocker but I'm not quite sure how I would send it. I am willing to
Is the 160R a good beginner gun?
I think it's wonderful at even the highest level. Is it beginner friendly? maybe not, because of the price. For beginners I don't think there are many guns that convincingly beat the Etha 2
please do ego 11 vs etek 5. no one has done it on youtube yet
Stick with the Etek :) trust me. Anyone who tells you to get a used Ego 11 is telling you to get a gun that might be up to 6 years old, those are bound to have something wrong with them and it'll take a bit of knowledge to fix it on your own.

Thanks for the input, but this has nothing to do with the quality of machining and reliability and everything to do with the seals on the gun and accumulated dirt, grime, debris and overall wear. Good work on the vid
Used markers are cheap, check craigslist. All you gotta do is air up an shoot. You pay about 30 percent of msrp for fresh markers
david anthony very true! Bought a used gtek basically looks new for 350
Waiting on that vapor vid like 💀
I can't wait until you get ur hands on a squish 2.0 lol
I already have :)
I just picked one up as well. Traded my used vapor for a bnib 2.0
+ cash right? Or straight trade?
Straight trade lol. It was a vapor collector that wanted it. I was skeptical at first as well lol
It was a 1 of 1 factory made watermelon machine vapor.
Where were you in this video? It looked like you were in a morgue. xD
'twas a morgue indeed
did you get the partswaps ?
I did not.
+The Madman how did you get the 160R is that color
From Planet Eclipse :)
Madman...160R -or- LV1.1 ???
The 1.1 is on a higher level and is a true high end, but it's 200$ more. So you are getting more gun with the LV1.1. This doesn't mean however that it is the right gun for you to get. Look at the spec book and compare the things that matter to you and if you have a change, get ahold of them and look online at how complex maintenance is. That's my take on it and what I like telling people, obviously they can do as they choose and we are free to disagree :)

So cool!!!
Can u give me your gtek 160r
Infuriating! I just bought the gtek 2 weeks ago and after purchasing the oled I could have just gotten this. I'm pissed!
This is still on preorder for a couple of weeks. Plus, there's a big price difference
+Wesley Lin after the $80 oled upgrade, which is included with the R, and a better trigger the difference is negligible, to have all the composite parts made from aluminum.
+Jason Alon yea that's true, sell and rebuy lol? This release was unexpected though.
+Wesley Lin that's my gripe! if they warned us I would have waited.
Congratulations you saved yourself money lol. Only thing you get here is a better frame... I call bullshit on the difference in shot quality. Also you get the same board. If you were really going to go in the $800 range you might as well get a RSX Shocker which is infinitely better than either of these.
that intro was cringe af.
I like gteks
