car was taken to RaceProvenMotorports. They recently uploaded the video on the car. It was a loose rocker. Car made good power after fixing a few issues with the O2 sensors and rocker.
@@kuro_ltg5222 oh shit, you see my v6 camaro was making the same damn noise, and i was confused, i was thinking it was the belt or some shit because i just did all the preventative maintenance just a week before so i was like jesus, but that would explain why it doesn't have a miss but still makes the noise.
@@panama6.235 so it does sound like mine but deeper, sounds like your’s might have been going on longer than mine though. rod knock sounds like something knocking at the cylinder head. lifter tick has a lighter, faster sound
What’s bad? Aside from the L99 being the weaker automatic variant only available in the 5th gen Camaro’s; the LS3’s in all other available platforms, have been notoriously reliable for the most part. Dare I say, they are a hit-and-miss once you start driving them like you stole the car. You can modify an L99’s heads to accommodate for the AFM/DOD to be removed and the cylinder deactivation junk to be swapped out; and keeping the variable VVT camshaft, is actually more efficient than the LS3 camshaft design. For what it’s worth, these are definitely much more reliable and easier to work on, compared to the newer direct fuel injection GM LT V8 engines. Much easier to distinguish actual “ticking” engine noises/sounds from a port fuel-injection system as well. Haha Most of the Camaro’s that are the solid cases I’ve seen, usually don’t need anything engine-wise at all, until way after 100-120k+ miles. If all the oils and fluids are changed ACCORDINGLY (meaning if driven hard, changed earlier), these usually don’t see direct issues from any kind of manufacturing defect(s)…
Rod knock, engine is a wrap brother
The biggest yikes for Veronica 😢💔
Mine did the same. It was a lifter. Im going 2 rebuild with Johnson lifters
any updates ?

@kuro_ltg5222 my v6 camaro making same noise and you said it's a loose rocker arm?
I thought lifter ticks plague the L99s
they’re a problem for all LSX engines. specifically LS1s but the LS3 has the same issues in the Vette and Camaro
How much did it run you to get it fixed?
I got a heads/cam package and some other stuff done to the car so more maintenance and modifications than necessary. total cost was around 10k
Yep
Who painted your car though?
Maaco!
It doesn’t sound as violent as I image rod knock being-
Here’s hoping it’s something NOT catastrophic.
yh that’s what I was thinking. all we can do is hope 🙏🏾
Was it rod knock
What was it? Sounds like rod knock
lifters!
@@kuro_ltg5222 glad to hear that man!!! Sucks, but That’s a blessing vs rod knock!!!!
@@steviedwalls Yes! RPM fixed everything wrong with the car and it's been running strong ever since!
My v6 sounds like that @@kuro_ltg5222
Tell me if my knock sounds like yours on my page
The ticking was a loose rocker. You can check the diagnosis out on RaceProvenMotorSports channel
I'm going to need the same , I will upload video soon
Bro that’s rod knock that sounds nothing like a tick. It’s over done .
ooooooofffffffff
That is a bad lifter. Rod sounds nothing like that. I had the exact same thing in my 2016 camaro and just got it out of the shop.
It actually ended up being a rocker. You can watch RaceProvenMotorsports video on the car, they found the problem in it!
@kuro_ltg5222 yeah they sound the same you were very lucky... I was not so lucky.
@@jsb1561 dang dude. well i’m glad your got your car fixed. seems to be a common issue with stock heads
Aw man
Nah, that’s rod knock. My SS sounded just like that
Isn’t that even worse???
@kuro_ltg5222 yes that happened to my challenger and it was completely totaled
@@BrokenNat ☠️☠️☠️ i guess let’s see what RPM can do and we’ll see what happens with the car

Those motors were bad from the start when gm enginers designed them.
