- The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2019 was awarded jointly to Abhijit Banerjee, Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer "for their experimental approach to alleviating global poverty."
The Prize in Economic Sciences 2019 was announced at The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm.

Is it me or others too who can't gauge the value of the research. The study kinda sounds normal or obvious. Maybe, it'd require more details to better appreciate their field-based approach.
The study you find "obvious" is one of about 10,000 studies these professors have completed while creating an entire new sub-field of economics and directly designing government policies that have lifted millions of people out of poverty. While it may seem obvious to use a rigorous scientific method to experimentally assess the efficacy of humanitarian interventions, they were the ones who actually did this "obvious" thing first. They also founded JPAL, one of the world's leading antipoverty NGOs. The award is for a lifetime of work, not just one study. If you actually read their work closely, the research methodologies and new mathematical and econometric tools they have designed to study poverty are extremely innovative, complex, and brilliant.
How about wealth concentration? Top 5 US billionaires in aggregate could give each US inhabitant USD1.25 million (it includes children and retired people) and be left with 10 million each after the fact. Poverty is not the problem but the reflection of the situation.
Plane tickets are freaking £199 return and she couldn't make it in person? I call BS
To be fair, she had only been notified that she'd received the prize about 15 minutes before she appeared by phone at the press conference. That'd be a pretty small window for transatlantic travel - at any price! Thanks for watching!
