It is so good to see Kenny in 2020. Last time I saw him was some 15-20 years ago. And I have quite a few of his vinyl releases. Always liked his grooves.
"I need to touch my music." Yes!! That's the perfect way of putting it into words. You hit the nail on the head about different pieces of gear being inspiring in different ways because of how we interface with them (as well as the sounds, obviously). Even my JV-2080 is staying despite how much more convenient the plugin would be. The black box with the green screen and slim rectangular buttons just puts me in the zone.
You're spinning really reflects your personality.. I heard you play at Space Miami once. From the first track you not only took over the club but the entire town!!
Thank you Telekom for bringing this to us! Honest, Raw and just brilliantly straightforward. Mad Respect to Kenny. 3 min for Nightflow?! Masterpiece ❤️
that story about choking at the comedy club sounds mortifying - interesting to hear that from someone who knows how to stir up a crowd with music so well - "don't ask for something you ain't ready for" - great interview - so cool to hear from the detroit techno gods, the whole scene is so relevant.
This guy...so damn humble.....c’mon Kenny u a legend out here of course we wanna know what’s going on with you. With you and all the originators from TheD. You guys paved the way and I wanna take this moment to say thanks to YOU! and the city of DETROIT. It’s all one.Peace
been following kenny for years, great stuff. the euro black producers don't associate with the american black producers, those expeccially from detroit because they are deeply racist, its no secret, detroit blazi's, so sad UR, moodyman so many, but very racist, i still enjoy there tunes but i wouldn't pay to see them
@@boderekstits no no no, its clearly overt, and has been for years, reverse racism is such dumbed down language man, educate myself lolz my guy. this is an american thing, you're all making excuses over there for bad attitude and bad behaviour, ive been in this scene for 40+ years, ive met kenny, ive met moodyman and a few others, oh they did not like some folk based on the colour of there skin, go look up how ritchie hawtin was treated in detroit by the UR boys, lol educate myself lol
Hi Kenny, I think the reason why some (like me) have an issue with Behringer is because HOW they do it. Not THAT they do it. If we take the Mackie mixer design that the copied to the legal claims they file (defamation, branding claims), and how they reach out to one single journalist with a very questionable message, we see a company with very low moral and that should be frowned upon. Uli's business idea from the beginning is to copy and make a cheaper version. It has worked great if we look at his business' growth. Yes the latter products comes from designs where patent no longer are legally binding (20 years from patent registered) but the history of Behringer doesn't change my opinion for that, all based on HOW Behringer behaves. That's why it makes sense to give Behringer some real shit.
Anyone that was producing dance music in 90’s totally understands why ‘in the box’ music making kills inspiration. Long live hardware. So much fun to be had.
Awesome, really appreaciated that Kenny took the time to answer all these interesting questions honestly. Longest YT video I ever wachted without skipping, that's for sure.
I know that he was joking about the ADD thing, but having problems with structural work and then still needing things to be structured around you, is a typical ADD thing. Plus other signs shown thoughout the vid 😆
When he spoke of " MUDDY BULL 💩💩💩💩 " ( and this is switching Genre's for a sec) 2 of my ALL TIME FAV HOUSE SONGS are MUDDY ... and i LOVE IT !!! Eventually someone "RE DONE" the 1st one, cleaned it up but .... it didn't give that same energy as when it was muddy. And the tracks I'm referring to are 1) LIFT EVERY VOICE by MASS ORDER and I'M ATTRACTED TO YOU by COOKIE WATKINS, whenever i go to listen here on RUclips (i don't have the actual vinyl ... YET!!!) i look for the " BOOTLEGGED" versions, while i don't know how they got out to the streets for sale i did hear a rumor , years ago, that LIFT EVERY VOICE was double recorded and sold w/o consent, the 2nd (cleaned up retake) was good but just DOESN'T do it for me.
Behringer is actively cloning new gear currently in production as well as vintage gear, which is why they suck. They literally just made a copy of the key step..
I could listen for hours to him! His honesty and humbleness about the process, admitting when he doesn´t know something and encouragement to try stuff out is very inspiring and gives me confidence. And looking at my Kenny records (Loop 2 was my first bought), it´s even more precious learning from this legend which music accompanys me for so many years now.
Wow! Have so much of his early stuff when I was Techno head. At the time himself and Blake Baxter had my ears. Always felt that US Techno had a more melodic feel in comparison to Europe.
I've liked Kenny Larkin's music for a while, and after watching this, like him as a person too. I can completely relate to his style of music making as a producer myself. He's a cool cat
RE: Behringer YES! Thank you!! And not just their clones, their original designs as well. I've got a Neutron and am loving it! I also recently bought a used Behringer Xenyx 1002B 10-channel mixer. Very nice little unit!! Again, loving it!.
The magic pill to mix a snare, add distortion and lower the volume. The distortion makes the snare sound louder, without adding more energy. It's all about perception.
10:32 Well Kenny I am gonna tell you why Behringer gets al the flame , it's not because he's cloning analogue synths, it's becasue he did it from the early beginning ( 90's °) Aphex Aural exciter , mackie mixers , boss pedals etc....and still continues today where patents are still ongoing by ripping of the aesthetics of known brands , Arturia keystep , beyerdynamic headphones ,Moog etc... Even writing about this on public fora gets the dude angry LOL , remember how he sued 10 earslutz members 3 years ago . Mr Big shot Uli HImself will defend by saying that he NEVER lost a Court case but the truth is that all cases were settled out of court . Behringer brand has the appeal of rotten fish and no matter what happens , the stink will remain . Bob Moog , Dave Smith , Tom oberheim , Ikutaro Kakehashi those are engineers , Uli Behringer is a businessman with no moral guidelines .whatsoever .
Kenny will be one the producers / DJs that'll be just be fine regardless of how this industry improves or doesn't. Those who are most adaptable and maintain a great attitude are gonna do the best. Those that have other skills, or are driven to learn new skills - they will figure it out.... and Kenny is one of those people. Take note....that's what this thing is all about now AND it's permanent. Nothing will ever be quite the same again. So don't get discouraged or give up.....just reevaluate how you can still make money doing things you're passionate about. The money will come, but we all gotta look a new angles. We're gonna be dealing with variants/mutations of the virus.....and government restrictions in certain places over the next couple years at a minimum. We all gotta look at this thing as a new part of our lives, and find creative ways to work with it - and around it. Hope all you techno/house heads are keeping your heads up and moving forward. Cheers
I really enjoyed this video. You know when u hit the nail on the head and the tune seems to be creating itself almost like magic I feel. I'm very new to creating music but I'm not a young fella and have just loved all types of music through the ages. Since a baby in fact. My only regret is I wish I'd found my passion earlier in life
Can anyone please end my curiosity and let me know which track is playing at 32:42 - ruclips.net/video/Ya8zfvw4lQk/видео.html - I understand it is his track but which one - I wanna listen this for next decade.
Kenny, you made lot of people disappointed regarding what you have been doing during pandemic. You were paid for a gig in Hungary upfront that you did not fulfill, took the money, and left the organizors (a well respect team in the sphere locally) down. Why you did not pay back the money to them in those difficult times? You were referring to crazy situations during pandemic, while you were posting pictures on Instagram about buying crazy expensive stuffs to your lovely studios. You should have paid back that money which for you is nothing, for this team was nearly about living further! Kenny, you are really such an artist?
This guy had my shoes wore out in the 90's Chicago scene..😂
90s Chicago, Detroit, and Berlin owe me treatment money for my knees :)
Azimuth was such a fantastic album. A classic forever.
It is so good to see Kenny in 2020. Last time I saw him was some 15-20 years ago. And I have quite a few of his vinyl releases. Always liked his grooves.
His energy and attitude is so great
"I need to touch my music." Yes!! That's the perfect way of putting it into words. Down to earth chap, says it like it is. Great to listen to on a rainy Tuesday !
I come from a metal/rock background and Kenny's interviews have always opened my eyes to different aspects of music production. Great content.
‘Hope I’ll stay relevant’ how humble is that. Clearly in for the love of it, you can’t become unrelevant OG.
Kenny Larkin? A billion thumbs up! Legend and amazing artist, easily one of the greatest.
Love listening to Kenny. Great answers from a dude who really knows his shit.
Love how he is so modest with it all. You can tell this dude would be fun on a session. Great interview.
Honest, talented guy. And I still play Methaphor. It's timeless. :-)
azimuth - K2000 made loads of the complex sounds, i still remember booting mine up and realizing a preset made such wild soundscapes
You are right. Everybody needs to find its style by its own. Success is always hard work, fortune and stand up after falling down.
Masterpiece ❤️
last few days have been shit but this more than makes up for it . Thank you TE Beats and Mr. Larkin for the masterclass
I love Lifeforms on his Pod alias. Incredible stuff. And integration is just something special. Still is.
He's always one of the most real people talking about this stuff and I love how much his interviews stand out because of it.
that story about choking at the comedy club sounds mortifying - interesting to hear that from someone who knows how to stir up a crowd with music so well - "don't ask for something you ain't ready for" - great interview - so cool to hear from the detroit techno gods, the whole scene is so relevant.
Yeah. Session view all my life.
Hell yeah!!! EB really are the best! Thanks for doing this Kenny!
Kenny Larkin is a true legend
Thank you Kenny for your honesty respect really enjoyable take on the way you work

how do I mix my snares? very carefullyyyy buhahah

Steve Rachmad! Melkweg, baby
Steve Rachmad maatjes met mijnheer Larkin. Leuk te horen.
P.S. Gashouder baby.
🗣 *Sterac* ! 💯
Kenny is a total master! (Edit) loved the "unarranging" / "stay on session" style. He 's one of the Masters for real.
Agreed always loved his track.
Anyone that was producing dance music in 90’s totally understands why ‘in the box’ music making kills inspiration. Long live hardware. So much fun to be had.
A great watch, thanks a lot! Big fan here, Dark Comedy - The March is definitely on my top 5 of all times...
Awesome, really appreaciated that Kenny took the time to answer all these interesting questions honestly.
Longest YT video I ever wachted without skipping, that's for sure.
I’d like to say thank you Telecom beats team for such an amazing content ! Great job. Keep moving.
"My studios in the cloud bra" too funny! So much good info here! Thanks for sharing!!!
The Behringer Rhodesy-type-organy-thingamajiggy has been released at NAMM 2022
"Where is your studio?? Oh! It's in the cloud!" Ahahahahahahaha!! Genius!
Kenny is an idol, and a super producer!!
He’s great on camera
Very interesting ❤
52....The guy looks like he is 25 years old by the way...
Love this! His quite fun :D
Funny how he doesn't like structure but his studio is quite well structured!
I know that he was joking about the ADD thing, but having problems with structural work and then still needing things to be structured around you, is a typical ADD thing. Plus other signs shown thoughout the vid 😆
One of my all time favorite producers ever!!
Feel like u gotta watch at least halfway before commenting. Love this. Truly embodies a legend.
His video's are so informative. Comes across as a really down to earth guy.
"how to eq good kick and bass?"
"create space, go on youtube"
cheers man!

Came here to say that, contrary to what he said, there is a magic snare pill. its called a clipper xD
Behringer is actively cloning new gear currently in production as well as vintage gear, which is why they suck. They literally just made a copy of the key step..
As well as them being notoriously petty, and overly aggressive towards its critics.
richie better give you that 101 back soon hear

Maestro!
mayor of detroit in 90s
This guy is hilarious
One of the best 55 minutes of my life! Respect!
Went to sweetwater to look at the API 1608. Cool video of Kenny there! BTW, costs 50K! Good for him for "investing in himself"!
Yo Kennyyy
RE: Behringer
YES! Thank you!!
And not just their clones, their original designs as well. I've got a Neutron and am loving it!
I also recently bought a used Behringer Xenyx 1002B 10-channel mixer. Very nice little unit!! Again, loving it!.
Rather than inspiration from other artists, I like the idea if inspiration from machines and processes of sound creation!

I 100% wholeheartedly agreed with him on the film scoring, just license my tracks and I would be good with that!
This was really good. Thank you Telecom and Kenny Larkin for an educational and entertaining session.
wow it was like talking with a friend, than i realized it is a youtube film haha - thanks a lot ;-)
10:32 Well Kenny I am gonna tell you why Behringer gets al the flame , it's not because he's cloning analogue synths, it's becasue he did it from the early beginning ( 90's °)

Had his first album azimuth on tape when it came out lol blasted it out in a hotel room in london when i stayed there lol great album even now
someone definitely should sample Kenny talking about the cloud at about 18 minutes in and use it in a track
awesome fucking interview. WELL DONE. THANK YOU!
THAT WAS A BIG UN :-) Thanks T.E.B and thanks K.L. Damn shame the cultural appropriation BS question had to be shown though WTF
Wow.

Fuckin' brilliant Q&A session. Thank you!!
Yo Kenny. I love you man! Keep doing your thing till the end of times.
whata legend! what a personality!
I wonder why we’re having the same surname but I’m from Russia, it so strange but cool though!
Such a nice artist. I dont wanna label it but theres soo much buddhism and positivity in this beautifull mind❤️
I hope he releases another album soon. His music is sooooo good
Itsss fuuuun! But Not necassery. Thats exactly my answer to the outboard gear question. 😅
Manik-Man, my introduction to Kenny's output back in the day, still a real classic track

Yep you are right ! It really makes me sad seeing that most people in the comments do ignore these facts, they only see the good side of Kenny Larkin.
This guy is ace
Awesome vid. Thanks telekom beats and Kenny 👍👍👍👍👍
Brilliant video. More of this please
