Winnipeg Transit management should actually try taking ONLY a bus for a week or a month to learn how their job works. Instead they drive around town and sit in their office making decisions for everyone else who takes transit.

and maybe you should drive a bus for a month and see what thesedrivers have to put up with.

Winnipeg is a huge metropolis about 900,000 people.
Winnipeg needs fast rapid transit 🚇 similar to Ottawa, OC.
Winnipeg does indeed have a BRT. However, Winnipeg needs an underground LRT in Downtown Winnipeg, similar to Ottawa, OC.
    This can be done.

As an Ottawa Resident, you need a Halifax system.
OC Transpo is in the middle of a death spiral and will be privatised within the next 10 years.

that will never happen, the infrastructure in that city is crumbling. they can't even fix the arlington bridge which has been neglected for 30yrs.

@@Dexter037S4? Halifax Transit is atrocious! People in Ottawa love to complain about OC Transpo (rightfully) but compared to Halifax it's the most efficient transit system in the world lol

The biggest problem is how the drivers are treated by management and all the things they have taken away from us that made it easier. So many issues that are never addressed. Wouldn't be a driver shortage if you would give a lot of people upstairs an attitude adjustment. Only a few maybe who are decent. The rest just try to think of how they can get you.

Mamagement would like to call the shots, but there are the all woke politicians from the left pulling all the strings. Riding a bus in Winnipeg is an excercise in trying to keep your cool, as a passenger just trying to get from A to B.. Imagine putting up with the angry public and ridiculous traffic 2100 hours a year.

Maybe instead of striking for pay raises that are higher than the equivalent private sector work, you should strike for changes in the work place. The poors are getting sick of being held hostage for unreasonable fares and higher taxation. The driver shortage is because this city has become a crime infested, drug addled, dump, and the city just sips tea like "everything is fine".

Man as a Metro Vancouverite who takes public transit, Winnipeg’s transit looks beyond awful! What a terrible system that seems to be managed badly. TRANSLINK our mass transit and road and infrastructure agency is in charge of transit and roads out here. I think cause they do both roads and transit their funding model is MUCH much higher than a lot of cities in this country. We have a driver shortage but it’s definitely not as bad as Winnipeg’s cause our shortage is just in training drivers to drive bigger bendy buses or electric Trolley buses. it’s beyond shameful big Canadian cities lack basic transit infrastructure. Winnipeg should have had a LRT line by now or at least proper BRT. Our brt system the RAPIDBUS has digital displays and is always on time using bus lanes and transit priority. It costed us a fraction of building yet another Skytrain or Subway line and now we’re up to 6 BRT routes spanning almost all of the 21 cities and municipalities. Trust me when I say GOOD TRANSIT MAKES GOOD CITIES. When you give people the option of affordable quick and reliable transit it can shape and change their lives in a positive way.

I understand the circumstances but JEEZE 9 months of training crammed into 9 WEEKS? That genuinely worries me that the driver is inexperienced with such a massive vehicle..,,

    • @JuliasCesar
      @JuliasCesar 8 месяцев назад +1

This is beyond a bad idea. Out here in Vancouver our transit system TransLink the corporate mass transit, road and bridge agency tried pulling that in the early 2000’s. low and behold unions fought back and driver training was made mandatory 1 year with a supervisor or trainer. 5 months with the supervisor and trainer on board and 5 months of check ins along the route and support if needed. We have a transit police agency with about 300+ officers and security forces for our system so our drivers just need to focus on driving. In Winnipeg it seems like drivers are thrown out on the road with little to no training, support or help. It’s disgusting that Winnipeg transit complains when they are the ones to cause their own demise. Why hasn’t the city fined or done something about this? Out here in Vancouver we’d have rioted by now or went on a strike. Transit workers need to unite out there!

@@JuliasCesar then what's the point of becoming a bus driver? You need to have 5f license with 3 years experience, and a year of training, but salary is low. You can get your class 1, which takes 3 months, as soon as you turn 18 and after that you can work as a truck driver, and earn more than the bus driver who you can become when you turn 20 and complete a year of training.

This is abysmal. I visited the area while I had to make a stop between flights for a cheaper fare and was shocked at the state of Winnipeg’s transit system. No safety no accountability and on the day I was there I had seen very little to no service. Such a garbage transit system and Janice Lukes needs to re evaluate her entire life when it comes to the running of the system. We had a driver shortage out here in Metro Vancouver but the union ratified a better contract and we have an active Transit Police force of 300+ officers part of MVTP (Metro Van Transit Police) and her plan is to go into effect in 2025?! MAN MANITOBA IS A FAILURE WHEN IT COMES TO SUPPORTING THEIR CITIZENS. Give your drivers support and keep the system safe and pay them well and you’d have no issues. Terrible management.

You guys really need a light metro, maybe something like the REM in Montreal on streets like Portage would be great, maybe out to Kildonan and Polo Park? For a city of its size it should have something like the Aarhus Light Rail, in Denmark, in a city with a smaller population than Winnipeg.

it was never like this in the 60s ans 70s . I remember taking electric ( yes electric), trolley buses everywhere in Winnipeg as an imigrant kid with no family car. Deadbeat riders were unheard of. Now half of them dont even pay. The BS that they dont have money, yet most of them smoke cheap untaxed tobacco like chimineys, and got plenty of money for other things. And then there are the other jokers I see in my area , who take cabs everywhere daily, who got no job but plenty of kids , yet dont seem to get up before 2pm.

Driving a bus isn't easy. You need training, a special license, air brakes. Plus all the security/crime issues. Even here in Palm Springs, CA, the bus service has really deteriorated over the last 5 years. The buses are running a lot less frequently than they used to and there are a lot of homeless riding the bus around all day to get out of the elements. There's trash on the buses and all the seats are dirty. But fares here are only $1 plus 25¢ if you want a transfer.

To reduce the requirement for so much motor vehicle transport we could create an online system to ENSURE safe housing, clean water, healthy food, quality education, and full health care for EVERYONE, while planning future development to be in harmony with the Earth and with each other...so most people could earn a living wage working from a place where they feel safe and loved. We could also subsidize public transport worker's wages with this system, while not increasing taxes.

@@ryanjohnston3229 hello, to further my vision in my personal life I have been spending several hours each day working towards making the idea go viral by communicating about it, creating art for the project, and by making plans to make it a reality. I have created a website, facebook group, and am going to write a book and album for its purpose. Everyday I build on the idea in some way. A part of the idea is to have a community builder simulator created so each citizen could create multiple real world solutions to these problems and the most logical and ethical could be voted on and put to use.
