Cant send people into confusion and puzzlement and not have your information to enlighten us please.

But if it was first in Jamaica which was what I was told from a child thats just what it is . Now I am understanding it was here first privately but Haiti had it first Publicly . This is a world heritage city. Haiti is the most historical place in the entire Caribbean, and many parts of the world. It has the richest history and culture in the Caribbean, and it's almost authentic African. It produces some of the greatest architecture and art works in the Caribbean. Some of the greatest African minds were brought to Haiti from West/Central Africa. The Europeans took the he best minds from Africa... It's important to note that Toussaint Louverture came from the royal family of Benin. I would love to visit Jacmel to see the architecture and the arts of the city. I have never been Haiti, but I was introduced to Haiti through its history. One day, by God's grace, I visit Haiti. That country has so many hidden treasures. Jacmel was not the first place in Caribbean to get electric. Haiti received electric in 1896 not 1920s. Further more my little island was the first in the Caribbean to get electric. Black River St. Elizabeth Jamaica. And that was in 1893. Get your facts right if you want to inform your audience.

      She did not say that Jacmel was ''the first place in the Caribbean to get electric''. She said that Jacmel was the first CITY in the Caribbean to get electricity. Electricity in Black River St Elizabeth was for the Leyden private home. Electricity in Jacmel was for the town. Get your facts right before being contrarian.

    I think the claim that Jacmel was the first city with electricity is most likely unsubstantiated. The Jamaican claim makes more sense to me based on information available.
    Also, they should take you to a walk around the town square- the Hotel De Ville, historic park, etc. would be there -By the way, Hotel de Ville means City Hall. It's the way they call them in France and in most former French Colonies. Th Rue du Commerce, the Jacmel Art Center, the old Port, are all part of the walking tour. Also the church is very old. they also have the formal farmer's market.

    • @charliel4103
      @charliel4103 4 месяца назад +8

      Not really, but in Jamaica and the other nations' case, they published it as "one of the first" to get electricity in the Caribbean. Ayiti just doesn't toot its own horn, but the information is generally well-known among the people that the whole city was lit up, not just one spot. Do you really believe that the first free black empire/kingdom that later became a republic would not try to advance itself while the rest of the surrounding nations were either just coming out of slavery or were still very segregated? People used to come from all around the world to attend the best theaters and dances in Ayiti. Jean-Baptiste Point du Sable, the entrepreneur, built the first settlement in Chicago and it was attributed to someone else. England said it was the first to abolish slavery until that was debunked. The colonizers even tried to say that they built Citadel LaFerriere instead of King Henri Christophe. There is a lot of propaganda against Ayiti for a reason. If they can't lie about it, they just hide it.

    I'm sorry the guide can't be a Jacmelian. I mean, he is not from Jacmel. He is obviously and certainly not. He does not know the city. He could not explain anything. He did not show the key places in the neighborhood. Besides that, Jacmel is a lot more than this little neighborhood. The guy passed less than a hundred meters of a landmark of Jacmel, of Haitian architecture, He does not know that. He did not go to "Rue du Commerce ", the most famous street in Jacmel that is next to "Rue Saint-Anne", the one he chose to walk in to go back to "Lakou New York" (whose real name is " Congo Plage"). That's too bad. African Tigress, thank you for showing the hidden side of the actual Haiti. But please, next time you go to Jacmel, ask for someone who knows the city, its architecture, its history, and its importance as a power in Haitian culture. Last but not least, since you speak English, ask for someone who understands English, and is able, at least to speak it a little.

    Electricity in Trinidad was In March 1895, according to a search. Electricity was installed for the first time in Trinidad. The Original Queen's Park Hotel and the Princess Building were the first two of the first buildings to have electric lights. The first street lights were installed on March 5th, 1895. Note electricity was introduced by the colonial powers at the time. The people on the ground . . . the villages got electricity around Independence in 1962.
    Jacmel is beautiful with a rich history. Thanks for showcasing Haiti. I will definitely put it on my travel agenda the next time I travel. Thanks AT.
