@@marvinvelasquez1196 Nothing will ever match live musicians playing great music like this - a superb tribute to the original, but there is a better more recent recording out there
Anyone here because you loved this song in the 70's? Whether it's the Temptations or Phil Collins & Company, both are awesome. This is what you call great music.
The original Temptations absolutely. It’s a beautiful piece of music. They reproduce it here well. But go back and listen to the original vocals and the way they intertwined their vocal threads. Phil Collins is a musical genius in his own right. And no one can do his songs like him.
Hi Tom, I don't know if Phil Collins was a big Temps fan (but I'm sure he was). He had a big band and many singers in his background. But to tell my personal truth ... he is only half as good as the original: ruclips.net/video/nXiQtD5gcHU/видео.html "Papa was a rolling stone" was and is myfavorite songs for ever. I also like the version by George Michael ("Killer"). Greetings from Germany Erwin (I hope you understand my bad english)
I didn't know Phil had so much soul! What an homage to the great music of the 70s!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🎶🎻🎺🪇🥁🎙👌🏾🎸 I first heard of this song while watching The Temptation 🎬 the whole band did a superb job there and Phil's vocals fit perfectly. That trumpet player was badass 🔥
AS A TEENAGER I GREW UP LISTENING TO MOTOWN - AND OF COURSE THE MAGNICIENT TEMPTATIONS - THANK U SO MUSCH PHIL FOR GIVING JUSTICE TO THIS SOUL CLASSIC - '' GOD BLESS TO ALL ''!!!!!!!
damm....phil collins never ceases to amaze me....I already loved his version of "you can't hurry love" from the supremes.....but this....this is a tremendous tribute to one of the best songs of the temptations, and a big love letter to motown....phil, the band, the backing vocals, great work!!!!
That's my friend, Bob Babbitt on bass! He told me about that session the first time we met, at the salon i once worked at! It was the first time i cut his hair. Did his hair for the Motown Session on American Idol. RIP. My friend.
My tears are dropping for this master playing a master music of the legendary Temptations. I always wonder how these groups come together in one accord to sing, play and dance. Awesome
This is EPIC!. Live - capturing the studio ambience touches perfectly. the strings, the voices, the bass, the clapping the ghost of Wah-Wah Watson, straight out the left channel - so true to the original and the bass - HUGE with a bit more TR and grunt- a masters touch In my ATMOS HT, 7.4.6 , upmixed into DSU so clear, some much detail- best cover ever . .
The best Temptation song of them all, no matter were you live , who you are, this song touch a fiber in every men who never had a father figure , powerful song and beat, this have soul
just for a record....No jacket required album ......motown orientated radio stations ignored PC becouse he is, sorry to say, caucasian, and other stations ignored PC because of, sorry to say, afro people playing with him......what a shame
" It was the third of September..."😉
You Go! MR. Phil Collins! You are the ONLY musical artist that can pull off doing the Temptations song! You think Peter Gabriel can pull it off too? JUST KIDDING! Your remake of "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" was absolutely sensational!!!!! I will play this often! You got a lot of SOUL Mr. Collins! God Bless you!
It was a much better cover than I thought it would be. The string and horn instrumental backup along with the Black singers made it more authentic.good job, Phil
Passing this onto the next generation (my daughter). Wow,I've always loved this song but what a cover version. Phil ,always puts his own twist. Brilliant!!
My goodness, this was a great rendition. I don't know if you guys noticed but the guy Terron Brooks is in the background played Eddie Kendricks in the Temptations Movie. That band played the hell outta this song....job well done!!!!
All I’ll say is this..at least legends like Phil are still around in 2022…most are gone. Jackson, Whitney, Prince, and the man who brought me to this video, who covered this track better than anybody else, George Michael.
if we could add a Bass for this, it would be amazing. Can we get a shot out for Phil using members of the Funk Brothers for some of the band? thats outstanding.
I love the Bass in this song. ❤❤❤
Todos esos instrumentos están en vías de extinción con la nueva música.

@@baggykev I thought the same, however Phil,s vocals are amazing 🤩 and the band also 🙌
10.2022, and on .
Classic
The original bass player, Bob Bobbitt, is playing bass on this set.
Gooooosebumps! One of the best covers! To be honest, nothin' can beat the original Temptations.
That Trumpet player…….awesome!!!!!! ENCORE!!!!!
Oh my god . This has totally changed my life , only 63 just now . Xxxxxxx
Nah too late you're fucked 😂
Phil was a big Temps fan. It's a tribute and he does pretty darn good with excellent backup.

i think that the bass player was one of the funk brothers, after jamison..
Anything that involves many, many musicians playing together and obviously loving every note is always going to work. Devine. X
Some of those musicians are from the original Motown band they called "The Funk Brothers" They played all the Motown music.
