Her story begins in Atlanta, Georgia and enriched with her upbringing in Charlston, South Carolina where the African Americans there known as Gulla have preserved the African Culture ever since they landed on the shores of America as slaves.

Gitu is the partial name of Gitu wa Kahengeri, the then Secretary General of MAU MAU, a liberation movement of freedom fighers who fought for independence against the British colonial rule in Kenya. He offered the vast tract of land in the spirit of bringing back home the stolen children of Africa!
