  • Restoration Old Denky Onkyo Tape Recorder | Unboxing Dokorder PT-36B-W Year 1966
    This vintage engraver has had one owner since 1966 and is in such good condition it looks like it just came out of the store. It looks like it was never used.
    =====
    I think this restoration will be very easy, cleaning the entire mechanism and lubricating it will be enough to get it working again, it's been in the drawer for over 45 years and it's probably not working properly.

    My uncle had one exactly like this one when he was in Vietnam. He gave it to me when his tour of duty was over in 1968 (I was 11 then). The only thing that was different about the one I had was that it didn't have that paper overlay on the controls. I knew right away that the pinch roller needed cleaning from all that slippage when you first attempted to play the tape. A couple of fun facts (and maybe you already know these): It's a two-speed recorder. With the larger bushing on the capstan it runs at 3-3/4 inches per second, and when you remove the bushing it runs at half that speed (1-7/8 ips). Also, that black device with the Japanese writing on the box is a telephone pickup for recording phone calls! It's great to see one of these in working order after all these years!
