  • Tapout Brewing does a split batch brewday one beer is dipped hopped and the other is traditionally whirlpooled. Find out what happens and how its done.
Marris otter LME was used in lieu of crystal malts for color and malt sweetness.
After the brewday I made changes to the recipe that I feel will improve the beer even more. This updated recipe can be found at brewtubers.com/
click on "more stuff", then click on recipe share. In the recipe it shows hops at the whirlpool, add those as dipped hops do not whirlpool for this recipe. There is no way in beer smith to show dipped hops.
you will find it there. * note to download right click and select save as*

    Sounds like:
Whirlpool lets those hop aromas and oils evaporate away, vs the dipped hop aromas and oils are held in the fermenter and reabsorb back into the liquid.
I need to try this method with kettle sour and hazyIPA's.

Awesome grain to glass Gary. I read Chip Walton's article and watched his video a while back and I'm thrilled to see you did a homebrew experiment and review of this new hopping technic to give some additional opinions on this for all of us to learn from. Cheerz.

Glad to see this. It's something I've been wanting to try. Some of what I read has said to remove the hops before adding the majority of wort. Others say to do the same but add a small dry hop 2 days before kegging. YMMV. Great stuff!

Yeah I would be will to try that too. I will say leaving the hops in there was not an issue. Cheers

It's starting to gain traction. I want to try this method in a NEIPA

Great video. I had never heard of this until you dropped it in the discord yesterday. I’m very intrigued to try this myself.

@@chubbymermaidbrewing I’ve been doing some version of Hoppy Pale, IPA, NEIPA every other batch and have been struggling to keep the bitterness in check. Thinking this is a good way to replace the late kettle hop additions to combat that.

@@burglesbrewing5621 that is what I feel is the positive outcome with dipped hopping, however this was only my first attempt on one recipe so the jury is still out, but I got the same results that others claim to be the outcome.

I remember watching OffTapBrewing and he used to call it making a hop tea although i cant recall if it was with wort or water and then added to his kit brews would this be similar right? Its like a concentrate hop tea with lower amounts of liquid does so interesting thanks for the vid Gary

Its quite possible as this was first done by Kirin brewing out of Japan in 2012, but wasn't brought into the lime light until about 2018. I had heard about making a hop tea in the past but it was a hop tea that was done like a cold brew and the tincture was put back into the beer, not the hops. at least i think that is what i remember. This method is more in line with Kirin Brewing, cheers buddy!

So this is almost the same as what the No-Chill guys have been doing all the years ... by doing Cube-hopping 🤨

    • @chubbymermaidbrewing
      @chubbymermaidbrewing  3 года назад

By default the cube brewers who save electricity/water and basically hop the cube while the wort is still fairly warm, is simular yes but dipped hopping is done hotter, 170f i think most of the cube brewers try to get the wort lower sitting in the kettle over several hours because the cube plastic emits an off flavor if it goes in too hot. I think some of them do hop tea though which is exactly the same for the exception they leave the hop matter out out from what I understand, but I believe they started this after Kirn brewing did in 2012. Good point though this is very simular and I totally forgot about the no chill guys. Cheers
