    I own this ukulele. It’s my second (and hopefully last) entry level ukulele after Makala dolphin. I admit I fell for the “more room” illusion but even with that, I like it. It delivers everything a beginner needs.
    I am planning to expand my ukulele collection by acquiring Pono AT(D)-CR. Haven’t decided about the “D” gloss yet.
    Thanks for your review.

    Thank you for this honest review! I was going to get this because of the “more space” illusion but I think I will just go with a concert! I appreciate the REAL honesty because most reviews you will find aren’t as honest and I can’t tell, but this one was absolutely amazing. Thank you!

    It feels surreal watching this on a Wednesday, as surreal as the prospect of England having a chance to get to a Cup Final. I like surreal. Thanks for giving us an extra midweek smile. Cheers

    Thanks for a nice review! You got me on this one! A long neck soprano is what I "need" for full joy when playing. Of course I will look into alternatives as well. Wish you a nice weekend ❤️

      Indeed, only about 7-11 folks working on the elite series and some prototype stuff. The new location has a much larger workshop, so the idea is they will expand on the handmade items and get more jig's and tech etc to allow for more production in this space. Now if they will listen to nut size recommendations I don't know. I mentioned it to Mike Upton while there. But such a large portion as you mentioned is overseas production so not sure how easy to implement that is. Not being in that space, it is easy to say it wouldn't be a big deal, yet tooling and manufacturing changes can be $$$.

      It can be done. Another brand making in China - Baton Rouge sensed the feeling for wider sopranos and released one. They are selling fantastically.

    Sadly it's not coming home yet but the team looks strong considering the age of the players. I wanted England to win because I was somehow wired to love anything british but it is what it is and the wait goes on.
    I don't really like the sound of Kala's but I think that's just me.
    Congratulations for another great review!

      Was a shame but they still far exceeded all expectations

  • @Paragonx135
    @Paragonx135 Год назад

    Of course there is more room, simple geometry. If you imagine playing D major with three separate fingers, if the frets are further apart, the fingers will fit better. The fingertips will be in a diagonal line. Wider fret spacing with same nut width = longer diagonal. Anyhow, the nut width could be bigger as well to improve the situation.

    • @GotAUkulele

      Never felt a longer neck gives me any noticeable feel of more space - wider string spacing certainly does though

    What sopranos come to mind that have the wider nuts in an entry level price range that you've reviewed and liked?

      They are the Chinese built brand of Na Leo Ukulele. There is very little information about them on the internet. I don't like the fact they haven't updated their website or facebook in 2 years. A couple models are still available on some websites (150-230 EUR depending on matt or gloss). I decided not to take the gamble and I purchased a Kiwaya KSU-1L instead.

    Just bought this Uke as my first ever ukelele, is it good for beginners? I got a bit worried the cons you mentioned! I have medium sized hands (I'm 5'11), I tried it in the store and it fits me well

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  3 года назад

      As a base ukulele it's pretty sound. The reason I didn't like it is that the neck is far too narrow for my hands.

    You saved me from buying a used one for $40. I liked the idea of extended scale soprano, but with big hands like mine this would not be all that fun to learn and improve my uke playing skills on.

    Nice review, Barry! For the price, the look is nice and the sound is good for the price range, but they failed miserably in the "what were they thinking department." A narrow neck on a concert scale fret board is so dumb! Who the heck was sitting around in that product development meeting who thought this was OK? Oh well, at least this is one that I won't be coveting!

  • @spuriousmonkey
    @spuriousmonkey 6 лет назад

    My ka-s doesn't really resonate either. I actually really don't like the sound on it. I sometimes pick it up to play a few notes, but quickly put it down again. I put several different strings on and none of them work. This longneck sounds reasonably similar.
    I wish someone would have told me to skip the kala and buy a nice uke immediately. When I first started playing, I would catch myself often playing on my daughter's Donner because everything on it was better.
    And not that that is a great uke.
    Maybe I got a Monday morning product.
    But don't feel sorry for me. I have other ukes nowadays. :)

      8/10 - hardly junk! My complaint is really only about nut width, but others will find it ok. It’s not junk though
