Long ago, before you or most of your subscribers were born, I flew FF (free flight) .. and U/C (control line). It was cheap fun for one with limited funds from a paper route. About the age of 14 I got my 1st RC model, which took quite a bit of saving to buy the single channel equipment, 48" wingspan aircraft, Enya .15 RC motor, etc. No 'sticks' on my tube single channel transmitter .. just a momentary contact push button. Press & hold for Right; press, press & hold for left; quick 'blip' press to change motor from high to low speed. If I was lucky, and no CB-ers were around (radio was on 27 mhz, channels located between CB channels), I could expect to get a few flights in at the local flying field. Since we only had 6 frequencies, everyone had to wait until their frequency was open. Ahhh .. the good old days. Probably about 2 decades ago, I bought a FF much like you show here, but with much better looks and performance. I had a ball with it, usually putting in 6-10 flights at the local school field before heading home. One night, on the last flight, I decided to let it charge a bit longer than usual, so that I'd have one good long flight to go home on. Well, it got up pretty high, into some slight breezes which weren't around at ground level. The model wound up on top of the school building with daylight almost gone. I came back the next day to see if anyone had found it, since there'd been some high winds that night. No luck .. not on the ground or on the roof, so I suppose it got blown down and some kid got a present. Sometimes the simpler the model, the more raw enjoyment you get out of any kind of successful flight. Cheers!
Hi Bill! Similar story here...single channel with escapements, 1/2A power, never quite under control but tons of fun! My flying buddy Richie is another long time builder and we fly a mixed bag. Hope you'll check out our channel sometime. Mike in western Mass
I bought one, actually 2 in case. I used to do competition free flight which was "interesting". Hundreds of feet climb in 15 sec max timed run, with 4 minute max flights. FIRST: I recommend still air/calm conditions. . WHY? They are 10g all up light so a good flight, or increased wind, can suddenly carry them far away - very quickly! Now I want to add simple control like the old dethermaliser way to terminate flight. Of course you can also limit the charging time. DON"T FULLY CHARGE ON WINDY DAYS IF THERE ARE TREES ETC AROUND. Words of wisdom. This is an especially cool toy for someone who has been getting scrubby flights out of chuck gliders for years and is running out of chuck with the passing years.. I now seek ways to power my heavier chuck gliders that are. 30-50 gms but do use significant nose weight.....
That's pretty cool. Sometimes you just have to do a simple and fun review to blow off some steam. The big in-depth reviews are so much work and can be stressful.
Jason Griffiths right? My wife is Chinese and I can barely talk, never even tried to read! Andy’s other hobbies: quantum physics, translating ancient aramaic scrolls and working on how to turn lightning into usable electricity LOL 😂 but seriously, one very talented guy indeed.
I spent best part of 10yrs messing about with various types of free flight planes. But that was when I was younger, fitter and able to chase them downwind. Still the 2nd purest form of flight. Really like that super-capacitor version especially at the price. Could be lots of fun. _now they bring it out_ :(
Ha ha! Great fun. Was just chucking a small polystyrene plane in the garden with my 3.5 year old. Our house is elevated and looks over the village. So tempted to just let it fly and see how far it goes. Might have to order at least 2 of these planes and do just that! 😂
what a contrast to the complexities of the hobby of today. can u imagine free flight in those days was already high tech. and radio control before was only on one channel close to free flight also. No stick to control just buttons to press when to turn..
Hi, this is great fun. I have just a 6 euro foam glider bought on sales at Lidl before summer and omg. It keeps flying. It's really worth it. I've enjoyed with the kids all summer long and I recon great to make it RC with emotor as a project to during winter time. Great video Andy. Enjoyable as always
THAT is the excitement I grew up with. Only we had to wind the rubber-band before every flight. Add some dihedral to the wings.. If you want to go crazy you set them to twist up into the sky one way (under power) and then fly a circle the opposite direction when power is removed. It would take forever to explain. :)
Going on a family trip soon, a bunch of these would be perfect. Can you test the charging voltage output? looks like either a 1s lipo or a 5v bec would probably do the job.
Just need to add control surfaces and it's micro fpv time, mid air recharge every ten seconds with TINY lipo for record flight times. ;) ardiuno kit go! My tiny weiner could hold two to 4 mcs tiny lipo and smart rx with ease😊 Been stuck on this idea as prices come down in supercompasitor land.. Great review thanks for the pids on tune on the 349!
WOW reminds me of the similar sized wind-up rubber band powered balsa free flight flyers of my youth. Some even had light weight landing gears. They were a ton of fun... and very cheap! 😁
@RaZoR3379 That's very cool! I seem to remember that back in the day these toy flyers cost about 10 cents. And just last week I read an article about a guy who flies a small rubber band powered RC version. It's a little larger though. But even Andy's _Super Capacitor_ model could be easily converted to RC. (Hint hint Andy!)
Thank you Andy. I did Free Flights years and years ago. Mine had a fuse that you would light right before you let her go. When the fuse burnt down enough it would burn a Rubber band and the horizontal stabilizer would pop up sometimes. Then I would run through corn fields to sometimes find it. I had 1 that got so high the little cox engine ran 5 times longer than normal. We tried to follow in a car but lost it after several miles. It maybe is still flying. It was red if anyone finds it lol.
I love the idea of the capacitor power system. Would be great to re-purpose in an RC model ... well, till it runs out of juice ad the rx quits so back to free flight anyway ...
We Build Them For Near Free Outta Used Styrofoam Meat Trays & An Old Brushed Quad or Plane Motor! I've Even Took A Whole Controller Outta Crashed UMX Plane & Have Made A 4-Channel Larger Plane/Glider Ones! Thanks
cool plane andy but its pretty sorry you didnt show us how to set it up in beta flight man... just kidding i saw an episode of flite test where they put a receiver and a couple control surfaces on one of those and it was a hoot. thanks for sharing bud.sometimes its cool to keep it simple and just enjoy a couple minutes of fun the way our ancestors flew models lol
Oh and I'm very interested in the hd system your playing with, I was going to upgrade my normal analogue goggles but now I'm thinking I'll wait and upgrade to digital hd asap.
Modern equivalent of rubber band , just quicker to wind up lol! Seriously it's a cheap toy which has a super capacitor in probably cost more to buy just the cap.... To stop the motor maybe just plug in the charger?
That is an awesome toy I got a bunch of cheapest epp gliders from ebay and I have old motors and lipos from my eachine e011 So I could beat that price 4sure But how to get the free flyers Back if they screw up for a couple of minutes 😂

Will be blast to fly them with the grandkids. Thanks AndyRC ♥ :-)
Aww so cute!

sweet mate, its a really nice to see you having fun making a vid, more please!
The excitement of having no control, gotta love free flight! Thanks for the awesome work 👍

I’m happy. Finally a model that I can control just as wel as you do...
The real highlight of this video is hearing you're working on the DJi system! I can't wait to see your coverage, I know it's going to be top notch!
It's really intense. It's like reviewing 5 products in one video. Hope it's worth it Cheers
Why is no else wondering if Andy can actually read Chinese?
Jason Griffiths right? My wife is Chinese and I can barely talk, never even tried to read! Andy’s other hobbies: quantum physics, translating ancient aramaic scrolls and working on how to turn lightning into usable electricity LOL 😂 but seriously, one very talented guy indeed.
Welcome to the world of real aeromodelling. Something you share with those people at the Nats - they don't know how to trim either.
“Do you know banggood....“ Lol. 😃😃😃
Awesome little plane. I would put a on/off switch so you can turn the motor off when it lands.

Really, really nice, Andy! 😃
Looks to be a lot of fun! And that's a fantastic way to introduce kids to the hobby! 😃
Great review!

Nice, think I'll have to get one for club events! Dammit Andy.... You've done it again!
Good old bit of light fun for us big kids at heart 👍🏽😁. Good way to get the kids out instead of playing the PS4 . Or eggs box. 😁 good job mate.

It just needs dihedral. Then it will fly properly.
That's hilarious. Glad to see you having fun our there.
I have just reverted to being 9 years old. Ordered one. Thanks Andy, Jeff
best 8 dollars u can spend. Enjoy
I love the idea of the capacitor power system. Would be great to re-purpose in an RC model ... well, till it runs out of juice ad the rx quits so back to free flight anyway ...
Gday Andy, dont apologise mate you make great vlogs for us to watch so its great to see you having a bit of fun bud.😀👍

Definite improvement on elastic bands!
Launch and then chase with a toothpick multi 😁
Funny an airplane bearing water based lifeforms painted on the wings.
What fun. Thanks Andy! Great gift idea for those that have everything. Lol Cheers.
Ive just got into freeflight and bought one of these for the motor and capacitor, did you do any more work on freeflight?
cool plane andy but its pretty sorry you didnt show us how to set it up in beta flight man... just kidding i saw an episode of flite test where they put a receiver and a couple control surfaces on one of those and it was a hoot. thanks for sharing bud.sometimes its cool to keep it simple and just enjoy a couple minutes of fun the way our ancestors flew models lol
lol when you need a screw theres not one there nudge nudge wink wink say no more
Andy, hope you'll check out the supercap planes on our channel...
Like 100! looks like a good way to get some exercise. Nice one Andy 😎🎮🤙🏻stay up
Same. When I need a screw I can never find one.
Oh and I'm very interested in the hd system your playing with, I was going to upgrade my normal analogue goggles but now I'm thinking I'll wait and upgrade to digital hd asap.
more dihedral required
Great vid. Looks like ya have 6 haters . Lol I have a couple myself. Keep up the good work bro
Modern equivalent of rubber band , just quicker to wind up lol!

Wholesome fun..
Superb😀😍
100th it's always a good idea to take time out just to have fun!
Nice combined with some micro electronics
Sweet. I’m gonna try to put something together with a paper plane.
pretty interesting tbh
