I was very critical to few of your old videos and repairs you have done. But this machine is amazing I can see how wrong I was and how great machinist you are. All the best !
How are you checking heights? Do you have to remove your cutter, pilot, and spindle each time to check with a valve and dial indicator? I think this is the first time I've seen a pilot that spins in a guide vs. the cutter spinning on the pilot.
@@PaulXchannel So you're not checking to make sure that the each exhaust seat and intake seat height match? I didn't pay attention to the top of the cylinder head to see it it has rocker arms or overhead cams. If it's overhead cam what are you going to do to match installed heights? Just shim the springs and grind the tip of the valves? But aren't you running titanium valves? Then grinding the valve stem tips wouldn't be possible right?
Very nice machine, would be interesting to see more details on the build, mainly the air locking spindle! This puts some of the store bough pro seat cutting benches to shame!
Amazing machine. I had a Serdi 3.0 and this is such a similar machine. Great build!!! Any chance of sharing how you made the spherical head? I am looking at making a machine like this myself.
Ive cut seats like this on my mill and you need to put a sponge under the cutter to prevent chips from going down the guide to prevent galling with that rotating pilot.
I don't understand the function of the "adjuster nut for cutting". Shouldn't there be a spring inside to take the spindle back up again after cutting? Nicely made machine, though! ;)
Now valve seats are lowered, and valve stem might be to long to set proper valve clearance.. how do you fix this issue - would you grind valve stem to the length ? Great machine - you inspired me to make one...
@@PaulXchannel Ift there is a shim - ok, but like I said - there is no such option. What will you advice then? stem grinding, or replace a whole set of buckets??
It's awesome that you added an air brake what an awesome machine. I wonder how much faster it would be on this machine compared to a milling machine? Good stuff I love your videos.
@@PaulXchannel very interested! thank you for the reply, as a car builder and hobby machinist and now full time automotive machinist not to mention motor cycle lover, you gave me a bit of much needed inspiration in this covid mess! I appreciate it!
You did leakage test with vacuum, but in our countries guys usually do test with kerosene. Because it is very fluid or fluent. What is better in your opinion?
I think vacuum equipment is used in the factory. It's fast with the value on the display. Kerosene is used when there is no vacuum pump - it is also good. It just takes longer.
So you are telling me that you designed and built this thing, including the air lock swivel tool holder? The R&D put into this machine must be enormous
Hi Paul. You are a very talented engineer. I really enjoyed your video. I think you are a great video editor too. I have a small question for you...What is the power /CFM of your vacuum pump you use to lock the boring head?

This is a nice piece of design and engineering, I like the magnetic lock up (bit of a problem for ferrous heads)Many Serdi design cues used here though.
Thanks for your reply. I was referring to measuring the angle initially, to determine the correct cutter to use. Do Yamaha, Suzuki etc differ from KTM seat angles for example?

Neat, but no provision to indicate depth of cut? A Serdi, for example, makes it EASY to cut every seat equally, so that shimming for valvelash or spring installed height is extremely consistent across the board. Edit: I guess if you keep your depth-of-cut adjuster nut the same for all exhaust valves the same - the results should be really close to one another, pending parallelism of your spindle head magnetic plate and your cylinder head mounting plate...
I had a VGS 20 for 25 years ..all I do is Harley heads using serdi full radius cutters ..also cutters to open valve seats Cutters I dont think your head design Can hold concentric. Your cutters are 3 angel and one angel cut into aluminum. A valve job made easy this time. Great design effort though.

Therefore the machine must cut the valve seat accurately.
