I always replace the hub seals as well at the same time, been caught out too many times with seals starting to leak a month after they’ve been disturbed, plus I repack the hubs and bearings with fresh grease. As for the half shaft collets I just use long withdrawal bolts and gently tap the cap with soft face hammer whilst using air gun to gently tighten withdrawal bolts evenly and slowly, the collets come off with the cap usually, great channel you have here, keep up the good work you deserve every success 👍
Hi Chris Those collects are on Isuzu trucks Can be a right pain You can get a tool for removing them ,seen one on bus grease monkey. Gray hound bus's same set up Thanks for the video Have a great weekend mate
Great video mate 👍 I’m starting a HGV Apprenticeship with Iveco next week, so was just browsing for a few videos so I had a bit of a refresh on some bits! I work on buses with my friends sometimes, a Scania N230, MAN’s and plenty of Cummins
Buses That’s one thing I’ve never worked on! Glad to here your taking up the trade mate where I’m from there’s a shortage of good hgv mechanics ££ good luck pal, work hard thanks for watching 👍
Put the nuts back on a couple of threads. Pull the hub cap off using the draw bolt holes. When the hub cap comes off far enough that it hits the hub cap nuts, stop and take the draw bolts out. Then twat the hub cap back on, the collets will stay on the studs or be loose enough to get out. I worked for scania as a technician for 20÷ years
For the collets i take of the nuts. use penetrating oil, put some tention with the draw bolts like you did. then hit the hub cap just above the studs. its gonna mess the customers paint up abit but thats sometimes the only way to get them to pop out
Alright fella found ya channel weeks ago and very funny 😄 Them collet’s come of the hub easy as mate bit of lube 😗 on when you remove the nuts put M14 bolts in the hub face and draw the hub of the collets will come of with the hub it’s worked for me all the time I work at scania too chum cracking vids btw
Hi Chris, great video, I bought a set of OTC Axle Stud Cone Pliers (OTC7077) for removing Volvo halfshaft collets, not used them yet but I'm hoping they do the job.
Smack the splin drive at the top of the base of every bolt. Keep the nuts on loose or you will lose the collets... Bive lost a few.. Smack them where I said and they will fly out

Let me know if there any good! If it Saves smashing the hell out the half shaft I’ll buy some cheers pal 👍
Hit the collar right above the threads on Axl casing
Chris what size socket to get hub nut off and do you have a part number for it the one I got is too small ..thanks
As im right its is a 80 mm or 110 mm 8 Point Socket.
Very nice...
What’s the wage like for hgv mechanics?
Good job
Tap a masonry nail in to the split on the collet if they have a split
if you hit the side of the half shaft with a hammer above the collet they usually pop out .
👆🏻
On the Rockwell ends used to hit the end of the shaft and that used to pop them
What size impact socket for bearing nut
100mm
Leave the nuts on the hub studs and dead ball hammer the flange where the collets are they will fire out.
Mate keep the nuts on last few threads then wack the side of cap with hammer
There are special pliers for the collet
1/2 shaft collets sledge hammer shock bounces them off with the scania use a wooden block then sledge against that.
Big bits sleeve size
Smack the splin drive at the top of the base of every bolt. Keep the nuts on loose or you will lose the collets... Bive lost a few.. Smack them where I said and they will fly out
Yep I think your right pal! Stick to what we know- if it don’t come out give it a clout 🔨 hammer 🔨 😂
👍👍 👍
Air chisel on the face rattles them loose a lot of the time I find. Working on old shit sucks sometimes
A few people have said that I’ll try it next time 👍 cheers Craig

10lb lump hammer on end bounces em stright out
Hit the fkn shaft end . Volvo ones no better
Plier part # OTC 7077
Its a strugglers life
Its looks easy but its not
bro how much do you earn in per hour bro plz tell me
I charge £35 per hour mate! I’m a bit behind the times still mate
To loosen the cones use McNasty air hammer, Simples 🦦 👍🏴
I would of thought an air hammer would help, I’ve got a 401 and 498, not much argues with them.
