I’ve been on a no buy for over a year, I’ve only replaced mascara. That includes body and hair care. I’ve got so many things that need to be used up and clutter gives me anxiety, as does buying things I don’t need. I have enough blush to last till I die I think! So I have a list of things I want to replace things with when I’m done. Simplifying my skin care too as it’s easy to end up with endless serums. Love this message!

I'm going to try the no buy that's a great idea! Especially for the planet and the wallet. For me another form of deinfluencing is honestly every influencer doing a Lilysilk haul a couple times a year makes it seem like a cult or a scam 😂

    • @ankeranna

Thats so me. I wear sooo little make up but I have four blushes - two of them are rare beauty. So why buying more? Same with skincare. My skin loves a simple routine. I made a picture of ALL my skincare as a reminder when I wanna buy something new - do you really need that? Dont you have enough? 😂

💯 Yesss I could have written this post. I also restricted my clothes buying due to anxiety about deciding what to wear. Steve Jobs also went through this, and why he wore the same thing all the time. Spending less time making decisions on a daily basis has helped my anxiety tremendously.

I decluttered my make up and hair products to those I only ACTUALLY use and like, and keep the list of product brand/names/colors on my phone, so that when I go in places like Ulta or Sephora I can refer to it and get ONLY those items I KNOW I use and not get side tracked by 'shiny sparkly oh i saw so and so use this' things...... its helped me stay on track a LOT! I also only go in if I am out, or almost out of something and stick to my list!

What a great video! I have not purchased any makeup for the past few years... trying to finish what I have and only buying what I truly need for skincare. Then I tried counting all the lipsticks/eyeshadows/blushes that I have and calculated how much the entire collection cost me. It was depressing! Wasted money! I could have re-decorated my living room including new furniture!
Save your money everyone! Thank you again for the great video! 💖💖💖💖

    • @MissZoei

I disagree on this one - I have extremely fine hair (just a lot of it), and dry hair shampoo works really well for me. I wash my hair once a week/week and a half, and one application of dry hair shampoo lets me extend for another half a week.

I’m 68 and I was shocked to see all the products you young people use on your face. We basically used Ponds Cold Cream for everything; moisturizer and remove makeup, Revlon everything, Maybelline mascara or Cover Girl eye shadows. And all these makeup brushes and sponges, we used our fingers. I stopped trying different products too and I’m happier (so is my wallet), and my bathroom is not cluttered anymore with products I no longer use. I found a good neck cream, moisturizer and under eye cream I like. The end and amen.

Hi, a cool idea for decluttering - take a picture of all the things you decluttered and keep them in your phone. Next time you feel like just buying whatever they can help to prevent from buying excessive things. I mostly have pics of skincare and old makeup I got rid of, I also have a pic of assortment of things I do use and love, my basics and staples. This gallery helps me to stop impulsive shopping . Hope someone finds this tip helpful :)

Thank you so much for this video. People today are so brainwashed into believing that they need all the skincare and makeup and devices that are promoted out there. Thank you for realizing and having the foresight to let your followers know that it’s not all necessary. Lip scrubs for example. A washcloth or toothbrush works just as well and is a lot more economical. I applaud 👏🏼 you.

My FAVORITE trend, love that you shared this!! I saw an article recently saying that women make up 80% of consumer spending (this may just be in the US?) and it made me feel kind of manipulated and taken advantage of AND made me aware of the massive environmental impact women may have because of our consumption and spending!! So I’m trying to cut back my own consumption, definitely with beauty products ( like skincare, I don’t need a 7 step routine, and also with dry shampoo!)

I heard every word you said but also on the background I couldn't stop thinking "Gosh, you are so beautiful!". Thank you for this content, it is very refreshing to look at our collection and assess in a healthy way "Do I really need all that?". I'd be curious to try living without an eyeshadow primer, haven't given this one a try yet! :D What I noticed for myself as a redundant category - setting sprays. I have somewhat oily skin and I thought it's a must for me, but then I noticed (I don't pack too much when travelling) that my skin oils just as fast with or without and a simple powder touch-up fixes the issue during the day. I only keep a small bottle to wet sparkly eyeshadows if I want to use them as a liner, but won't be re-filling.

ABSOLUTELY LOVE this de-influencing! I give up buying into the fallacy that there is always something wrong, less desirable, unacceptable, ugly, embarrassing or somehow not measuring up to “someone’s” limited definition of what is beautiful! The manufacturers have hired advertising agencies to brainwash us all into believing we are somehow lacking and need to change the way we look through makeup or plastic surgery so we keep purchasing their goods and services! They change the beauty trends and beauty standards to keep us always chasing what they tell us is desirable!
I spent years as a professional makeup artist, so I’m deep into the possibilities and creating different looks. However, my personal beauty philosophy is geared more to putting emphasis on our best features and not using cookie-cutter application techniques that sell certain products, that just happen to be trendy at the moment, but not necessarily the most beneficial to all facial shapes and features. We are not now, have never been and will never be a one-size-fits-all world! We are fabulously individual and uniquely beautiful and not every look or trend will suit us!
Find what works for your face. Focus on your best features and how you communicate through your facial expressions. Create those focal points and keep the rest subtle so there’s no competition to distract from your best features or your ability to communicate at your best! But, of course, every makeup artist, influencer and makeup wearer has their own philosophy! Find whatever suits you and ignore the advertisers and marketers! They just want you dissatisfied so you give them more of your money!

This is good! So many unnecessary products. Here's my parallel thoughts:
    Eyeshadow primers: nope, no point
Hydrating primers: OKAY, I recently got the Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré, thanks to your influence -no, don't be ashamed of that term! I genuinely appreciate the influence of a fellow dry-skinned girlie! Anyways, it's changed my winter skin life. It's the perfect night cream, eye cream, primer, makeup remover, hand cream and everything in between. I did NOT take this recommendation seriously (because I mean, products from Shoppers...meh) BUT, this is it!
Face and cheek palates: Agreed, EXCEPT for the Hourglass one specifically. It's my daily makeup wear. I've almost hit pan in the bronzer in last year's and slept on this year's (snake) palate and regret it very much. Hoping I can find it at Ulta in Florida when I'm there next week.
Lip exfoliators: I've taken Tati's recommendation and am using a little silicone scrub. Works great!
Dry Shampoo: it's gross. Re: your hair video -just wash and dry more regularly. Spritzing micellar water and drying inbetween works as an alternative
As always, love the Canadian content! ♥

Thank you! Many of us feel the same and honestly im tired of watching “influencers” pushing products we dont need. It gets old..we need different content…love life style favorites!

I just did a big declutter and am giving so many unused or barely touched items to my friend’s 13 year old. I am no longer buying black mascara or eyeliner. Brown just suits me so much better. I am also no longer buying event specific outfits. Things you buy and wear once. If it can’t be worn again and again it ain’t happening

I completely agree with so many of these! I’ve recently committed to never buying dry shampoo in aerosol form again…I do use the bumble and bumble pret a powder, sprinkled lightly at night then in the morning hit it with my blow dryer, only on day 3 then wash it out after day 4.

Ohhh, I’ve been wanting the Hourglass Leopard palette, but it’s sold out……and I would definitely use it, I have no other face/cheek palettes. I am 70 years young and this is the one makeup product of 2023 I definitely want 😉😬

It happened to me during the transition between summer and fall, somehow something switched in me and I threw out many things that I would only keep because I bought them (but rarely used and ultimately expired🤷🏻‍♀️). Felt a little like shedding old skin, really refreshing. Also just like Lan said, most of us have probably by now gained a sense of what they need and want and THAT makes it so much easier to shop or not to!

I loved this video so much and agree with everything (well the dry shampoo one is hard but I could probably benefit from using that less). I found myself cracking up so much while watching this because it’s like you read my mind on so many of these products (especially the natural deodorant 😂)!

Allana, I have been watching you since you were in college. Not sure what happened but I lost touch with your videos. I’m so happy to see your sweet personality and candor has not changed. Happy to be back to your channel and catch up on your more recent content. Cheers to all you have accomplished over the years 🥂♥️

I totally agree with all of your choices! The only thing I struggle with now is always being on the hunt for that "perfect" lip color and bronzer! I have tried all of them and can't find the right one. Trying not to fall prey to the marketing ads. It's difficult for sure! Happy Holidays!!

Loved this video so much. I stopped buying things including clothes 2 years ago, when I realised I’m becoming a hoarder. Now am at a point that I don’t even enter every giveaway. To be honest seeing minimal things in cupboards is such a stress buster! 😊

OMG yes to this. I don't even use eyeshadow, so primers? Nope. I mean, primers in general are such a ? for me. I'm relieved to hear this deletion! Yes to consistency with creams! THIS IS THE VLOG! I'm not a palette person, but YOU, Allana? You've shocked me. And YES, palette's ARE wasteful and overdoing it. LOVE THIS!

Lmfao, Allana you make my day with your expressions, candor and overall joyfulness. I definitely appreciate a good de-influencing video, especially this time of year when everything seems "shiny and new" and the world of consumerism and consumption is at an all time high. Simplifying our lives is such an understated key to living a happy life. Thanks for the share. (I'll always be an eyeshadow pallet girly though) haha. I DO love PROJECT PAN, and definitely try this prior to overconsumption

  • @madysimon6229

Yes! I’m constantly decluttering makeup and giving to family because I literally have so much that will not end up getting used. I’ve been definitely on a “project pan” lately. Anything I’m almost out of I’ve put into one makeup bag and I will use those products until they are DONE. Then add more as I go along.

Selling makeup that isn't used and having a clear out is a great idea to start again, and be a minimalist with the makeup you use. Only buy a few products for a full face, not 50 blushes, 50 bronzers etc, just use and buy your favs after all makeup goes off... especially cream products

  • @lja530
    @lja530 7 месяцев назад +1

I found myself nodding along to everything except the dry shampoo. If I don't use that I literally have to wash my hair every day and I just can't be bothered. Also, when I use it too often I get a slightly itchy scalp, too, but I think that's just because there's too much build-up and not washing your scalp enough can do that even without the dry shampoo, at least if you have oily skin.

Ive been done with setting spray, concealer, eyeshadow and primers for a while now and I really enjoy letting my skin breathe and I love that the “natural” makeup look has been popular cause it’s just much more comfortable and manageable for me and I’m okay with not looking perfected anymore 😅 minimizing skincare has also been a game changer too

Thanks for talking me out of the new Ambient Lighting Edit Unlocked Palette. I had it in my cart for a few days and I was on the fence. BTW, I have been enjoying your recommendation Nudestix in Bareback. It has been my go to everyday blush since I purchased it two months ago. I love the color and its staying power, I had to get another one to leave it in my gym bag. 😂

So true on the eyeshadow pallets - I use the SAME Tom Ford and Inglot eye shadow pallets on the daily - the rest of my collection sits in hopes one day I will be inspired to be creative, but the reality of my every day life is that simple eyes are what I gravitate towards!

I’m planning on doing a no buy/low buy next year so this was helpful to get some ideas about things to include!! I 100% agree about the lip exfoliant… bought a little thing pre-wedding and honestly it has not done anything more than light scrubbing with a washcloth would have. It’s so nice to have a less cluttered bathroom cabinet and simplified routine!

Limiting makeup products that are rarely used is my goal now. No more eyeshadow that won’t be used at least twice month. Also why are brands flooding the stores with products? Too many products, too many formulas.

This is such a great topic to discuss! I’ve always been very simple & get easily overwhelmed with the pressure to buy new, especially because I know what works for me and I often feel like buying new products ends up being a waste of money!
