loved the video! i gotta ask though, where did you get that shirt you are wearing at the end of the video? i need it!
It’s available in my merchandise store.
shoptime.creator-spring.com/listing/new-i-make-stuff-awkward
@@peterbrownwastaken TIL theres a shop time merch store
@@peterbrownwastaken either I really don't listen or you need to mention this more because I never knew you had merch and I've been watching you for YEARS lol
How is there not a link in the description?
can you remake this? @@peterbrownwastaken
"theres something crawling on me :(" "do you want me to save you?" is so cute
Gasp!! "You're a monster"
I though it was a lady bug. But I have been corrected.
@@PetroicaRodinogaster264 No, it looked like a spotted cucumber beetle. They wreak havoc on, well cucumbers, but also many types of plants spreading disease and damaging the plants themselves.
@@RoseKindred Yes you are right. I have looked at it on zoom and it has the more elongated body of the C beetle. I will adjust my comment!
@@PetroicaRodinogaster264 Hey, bugs are cool, just some can be mean and when they eat your home garden, you do not forget them...
You shower the microwave in petals, then push it's buttons... Now you're saying y'all just friends. 🤣
Sending some mixed signals, my dude
🤣🤣🤣🤣the microwave is like I want to ruin are friendship I want to be lovers instead
Typical man🤣🤣🤣
What a tease.
When your making micarta every layer has to be coated or the final piece will be poorly consolidated. Never done it myself but I learned that from a guy named Peter Brown on youtube, you should check him out, really good stuff ;)
This. Plus, I don't think the petals were completely dried. There can't be any moisture. It looks like soft material in between layers of resin.
@@NumberOneDragon Agree.
There's also the fact that paper and cloth Absorb but petals do Not
Imagine a ring made from someone’s wedding bouquet. Gorgeous
It might look pretty now but it will be a brown and yellow crumbly mess later.
@@Whisper0ak i wonder if you could stabilize the flowers to prevent that? or perhaps taking it extra slow so that even if the resin isnt absorbed into each petal, it is covering each petal
seal the end deal with another thin layer of resin i dont see why that wouldn't keep its color
Kind of makes me wonder what would happen if you dehydrated a vegetable with a bunch of layers, like lettuce or cabbage, stabilized it, dipped it, and then turned it down into a bowl.
The most interesting salad bowl?
A lettuce salad bowl... diabolical!
@@jonanderson5137 dia “bowl” ical? 😂
Red cabbeage could look amazing
@@jonanderson5137 No imagination, eh ? So sad.
The interactions between the Browns is just so wholesome and lovely!
no matter what you make, as soon as you use those micromesh pads, it becomes transformed and I love it! Also, love she offered to save you from the bug, it is so her!! :)
"look, I turned your rose petals into flat lifeless paper products!" The valentines industry in a nutshell
Don't forget her reply: I'm so proud! Just great!
I was a little skeptical about the petals being all scrunched up in the end cap, but it looks so much cooler than I think it would have if they'd been laid flat!
Some notes about flower petal drying w a microwave: you don't need any special equipment, really. You could use two ceramic pieces (I use two large dinner plates) and some paper towels. The larger surface area means you can do more each go. I also dry mine out significantly more, to the point where they're almost burnt. It makes them have a similar texture to crunchy autumn leaves.
Aw you think you're smart
Oh, thank you!
@@moose8846 wtf moose
@@janmorosesteban3785 Moose are assholes. That's just common knowledge. Ask any Canadian and they'll tell you so. And when the most polite people on Earth tell you something is an asshole, you know it truly must be so. Moose are almost as bad as Canadian geese, and that is quite an achievement!
@@LordDragox412 well as a canadian most of the wildlife is chill, most can kill you but if you dont mess with them then you’re fine. Like i see deer’s outside every day and ducks and birds everywhere.
As a note yes dont mess with a moose if you see them, ive heard stories of semi trucks being messed up from running into one
* gasp * "you're a monster" was so cute. 😆 Y'all are adorable. ♥️
Try making knobs for a drawer out of this material. A dresser with rose petal knobs would be awesome.
Well, this project really *bloomed* in the end.
What your wife said would be really cool. If you found 4 petals that look like butterfly wings then use a rolled up petal or a small rosebud as a body, you could make a butterfly cast in resin
This is super cool! I wonder though if you had poured a shallow tray of epoxy to kind of dip one side of the petals into before putting them into the container it would have helped the layers to stick together. I'm guessing here that the pedals are impervious to being infiltrated through with resin, unlike how fabric or paper acts with absorbing it, so you really need to put epoxy on each and every layer. I kind of want to make a gear shift knob out of petals now!
I was thinking the same thing. When I see our roses after rain, the water beads up on the petals. So when I saw Peter putting in several petals between resin layers, I did wonder if there would be a problem with the adhesion.
Still the end product looked amazing.
My husband and I thought about this same issue. Do love the end result though! It was gorgeous.
Interesting. I definitely would do things differently for the next attempt.
A gear shift would be sweet!
As a fellow gear head and a man of quality, I agree with this suggestion 👍
this was my thought. the jamming of all the petals in without layers between them, I expected it to be a weak result. Still, its very pretty, I would like to see him do it again, but this way.
I am absolutely loving the new vids, especially the addition of Mrs. Brown!
I mean who doesn't love Mrs Brown at this point, she's an OG.
I was surprised that you didn’t add resin to each layer because I figured it would fall apart but you made It work and what a lovely end product. Nobody would guess it was resin and rose petals - it looks like a beautiful stone of some sort or as you said, stained glass.
It immediately reminded me of wax crayons melted in layers into a cup, haha. I assume you mean the actual ring itself, though, which yes IS very nice.
Yeah, I was worried about it de-laminating too, and then it did. Good save though.
I was really worried about fragility when you were adding so many layers without resin in between. So glad it turned out! (No pun intended)
Was thinking the same thing
Wow, the pattern on the ring looks awesome! I wonder if you dip the petals into resin before stacking them you might get better layering and less gaps in the resin?
Yup, I figured that ending would happen when Peter stuffed like 8 layers of petal before adding more resin.
As a fellow Hufflepuff and lover of roses, I think this is my favorite thing you've made! I want to make dice with my dried rose petals now.
it turned out absolutely gorgeous! if you do it again i think making sure there’s resin between every petal before you stack will fix the chipping issues you had
When I saw multiple petals added at the same time, without lashings of epoxy. I was worried about delamination. The petals looked awesome though.
That is so incredibly beautiful. I want to see more.
So it was coming apart, the layers.. Jab holes in the petals. it'll make a resin matrix so the strength of the resin itself will hold itself together.
Think like a sponge where the resin is a sponge all connected to itself and the holes are the rose petals. (If it works and you make more stuff, A guitar pick, different thicknesses, /flexibility? A rose petal is shaped like a guitar pick to begin with. Different flowers? Leaves? I love micarta, but mixing nature with it makes it a whole level higher. Pine cones, mushrooms, Theres a whole forest to make micarta out of. More of this please.
This on a larger scale with fall leaves could be nifty!
I think it would also be a really cool material for a pedant!
This is gorgeous! I'm the one who sent you those bright pink liners this spring. I tried some in UV resin myself for a project and they worked beautifully. I hope you find a creative use for the ones I sent you.
That is amazingly beautiful 💕 And the fact that it was created from roses in your own garden makes it all the more special.
I love that the red/pink pedals turned purple, so cool
This brings up so many options. Other flowers? Leaves? Ferns? Pet fur? I want to see it all!
Definitely never seen before, always here for your weird and unusual creations
So Fun Fact: did some googling after watching your resin yellowing video and apparently you can sand off the top layers that yellowed to expose the original color(or lack thereof) of resin castings. Think this might be a good topic for a (short-ish) follow up/companion video to the "Resin's Dirtly Secret" video.
Cool ring!
Next time, slather each pedal in resin. LOL
Mrs Brown needs a pendant from rose mycarta!
And a bangle! :D
Maybe some earrings too?
The flowers in a vase style shape, with fairy lights inside would look amazingly beautiful!
Loved the new video! I'm glad Mrs Brown is in more vids! What about coating the gorgeous finished ring with CA or a thin layer of resin so that it doesn't flake apart any more? Much love from Oklahoma!!❤
When doing any micarta, you need to soak or atleast coat each layer separately. Much the same way as paper mache. That ways when it is pressed, which is another requirement, it will fill in any voids. That would have saved you a lot of time and sanity with the ring. Next you can try doing leaves. All the colors and types would be interesting. Even dead leaves would look interesting.
That's really pretty, and when you realise it's made from rose petals it totally brings it to another level!
This came out fantastic! I would love to see some follow-up videos that show how you improve on your process to solve the problems you encountered. I love seeing your new experiments, but I would also be very happy to watch some videos that are all about refining this and taking it to the next level.
Mrs. Brown deserves a show of her own. The ring looks great!
I rewatched the making of heather gems recently. I voted that the mold is trough-shaped with open ends. That way the extra glue can get out of the way and the heather (rose petals) can be better packed.
Wow the end result is stunning! The tiny layers of petals all swirling looks so cool
I just knew it won't be enough resin! Love how it turned out, it's really pretty!
Most of your rings have good novelty value, or would look pretty on a shelf. That's probably the first I thought looked absolutely stunning. I've no clue where the idea came from but I'm so glad you did this. Thanks for sharing!
The end product is absolutely gorgeous, despite all the issues! I think the prettiest one you've ever done
I get home from my maintenance job, wife-asleep, 3 month old-asleep, dog-asleep. I grab a beer, and relax with your videos, thank you
As much of a pain as this was, the result is stunning. I love the curly layers and the contrasting colors. Certainly a valuable experiment. Thanks for sharing!
This is awesome! I love the way you saved the roses from the landfill.
My first thought after hearing your plan was that this would make a beautiful pen for Mrs. Brown if you could get enough of them, or maybe use a different mold. The ring is also a pretty cool idea
As soon as I saw the title, I wondered what you could make with that and I thought of using it to make a pen blank, that'd be cool! I know those are notorious for being brittle/ hard to work with so it'd probably need resin on/in each petal and considering the smaller diameter you could maybe shred the petals first. Cool ring and it'd be great to see more flower petal micarta.
Netflix and lean cuisine LOL!! you bring so much joy into my life with your videos! Sending well wishes for your family!!
@ the beginning: Instead of throwing out the old blooms, try candied rose petals 👀
My mom does that with our roses sometimes, and they’re super tasty ❤️
It came out beautifully, -hot lips- errr Peter! Maybe next time you could make a molded/turned weapon of some sort with a few meticulously placed thorn s as spikes, because as you probably know, 🎶 every rose has its thorn.
I was sad for a moment, thinking you weren't going to be able to finish the ring. But once again, your perseverance amazed me with such an awesome outcome!! Great work & I love your t-shirt at the end!
I'm glad you are including Mrs Brown more
I did a round of chemotherapy today so I’ve been felling really really crappy but you have a soothing voice and perfectly gentle way of editing videos. Thank you Mr. Brown.
I was surprised how beautiful the ring turned out. Mrs. Brown is a lucky gal.
Looks like gold and obsidian at the end, absolutely gorgeous, and under the black light it reminds me of a meteor that's radioactive
Every rose has its thorns even just the pedals turned out really good 👍
watching your videos while having a cup of coffee is one of those things that motivates me to go and do my own builds
I think Mrs brown needs a channel where you upload her outtakes after projects are completed. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would watch it.
such a cool idea!! the petals don't soak up the resin the way fabric does so i think you gotta put resin between every petal. it came out so amazing!!
Can you imagine how cool it would be to give this as an anniversary present made from roses from a first date? * swoon *
Beautiful ring with all the patterns!! 🌹🌹 Always a treat when Mrs. Brown joins the chat!! 🤗
It gives me total Van Gogh Starry Night vibes! It's like someone turned that painting into a ring! Beautiful!
Mrs. Brown's manicure is on point!🤩
Its FANTASTIC!! I’m in love!! Never have I wanted one of your pieces so badly!
Woohoo! Mrs Brown is a Hufflepuff, badger pride! 💛🖤
That is really cool, I love roses, and seeing them turned into a ring is amazing.
The final product is spectacular!!
so, so pretty. I'm glad you were able to salvage it!
This is such a beautiful material! I think your resin botanical projects are my favourite.
I'll bet this project smelled Amazing!
Seeing the amount of material coming off when sanding was crazy that stuff is super brittle I give you props to you not giving up
The pearlescence of the petals really comes through!
This turned out so magical looking 🤩
I’m always amazed at how your stuff comes out
Wow! That turned out way better than I thought it would. Well done!
that's beautiful, definitely worth the intense work you put in!! thank you for making these projects!
The ring came out awesome!
I also enjoyed your playful banter with the microwave.
Omg this turned out so beautifully
It's so awesome in the end. Love it.
Loved the colors and the creativity.
Perseverance often brings the greatest rewards good job Peter!
The purple and yellow together are beautiful!
That's super cool, one of the raddest patterns I've seen on any of your work!
Mrs Brown is a Hufflepuff! This excites me more than it should. Also 100% agree. It's our house ring for sure.
30 seconds in and already I feel like this will be one heck of an endeavor to make rose micarta.
Knowing that Mrs. Brown is a hufflepuff as well makes me so happy! Hufflepuff Pride!
Also, she is absolutely right, that ring is perfection as a house ring, absolutely beautiful!
Definitely up there in the top three, probably #1. Well done
Wow, I LOVE the color scheme on this. Good work!
That is GORGEOUS.
That looks insane. Awesome idea and great work!!!
Thank you , Peter .
That is SUPER-COOL!
♫...Mrs. Brown you've got a lovely garden....
this was a whole another level of beautiful!
Years ago, Mr Brown called me a monster. Now I know where he got that from...
Absolutely stunning work, sir. Not sure I'd wear it like a ring, as it appears delicate, but I'd find some way to display and admire it!
It's beautiful!! Good job!
INSANE BEAUTY!! 🥰
Great work, amazing idea! Now I can't wait to try it out
