Billy, you might see if you can rebuild the old pump for a spare. It may just need new bearings and a seal or two. It's at least worth checking out. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
It’s great to see you cruising in calm waters. I was a commercial fisherman in the Atlantic from above Newfoundland and as far south to the Amazon..seen 30-40 ft seas and 100 +mph winds.I’ve told people the ocean can get as calm as a mill pond and they look at me like I’m crazy.glad you had such wonderful conditions!! Boat looks great and it’s great to see all your hard work pay off!! Fair winds 🛥️
Grew up on the Outer Banks with commercial fishermen and boat builders in my family. I've seen the Atlantic from mild to wild. Like you said many a day I've seen as flat as flat can be, other days I've seen I was glad I was safely on the beach watching instead of out on it. People that look at you like your crazy just haven't spent enough time near the ocean.
It never gets old looking at how beautiful Mountain Mist is now. Her handrail sparkles and shines. I'm so happy you got to spend months in the PNW exploring with family, friends, and each other. Priceless memories 💖
I work on tugboats in Alaska and the only thing I've found that works for seasickness is making sure you have a good meal and plenty of lemon and ginger tea. No heat in the wheelhouse and look out at the horizon. Thanks for sharing your journey. My ketch has a ford lehman in it as well and it's a pain in the butt finding those parts. Glad you got it fixed and on your way
The lee shore notoriously known as the Graveyard of the Pacific basically runs from Cape Mendocino to Cape Flattery on the tip of Washington. It then continues north up to the Gulf of Alaska. The weather you had for this voyage at this time of year was amazing.
The boat looks so beautiful in many of the camera shots without putting it into context, and due to all of your months of hard work in restoring it. Good planning on being able to sail in such ideal weather.
@@milkoberben2963 sure but it can be insulated or zip tied to something else, and it is for an on the water emergency repair, obviously not needed if your belt doesn't have obstructions
@Milko Berben I wondered about that. I suppose it's still better than having to take it apart again. I'm sure the belt condition is dependent upon the amount of heat and exposure time.
@@nooneanybodyknows7912 I live in Gambia West Africa and worked for several years on a yacht with 2 Ford engines on it almost the same as his so yes I have some experience with temperature and what it does to fan belts

This video is one of my favorites. Having run up and down the coast from Seattle to SF many times, I’ve only experienced calm weather once. Sure do enjoy your adventure.
New Diesels are great when money and time mean nothing but man it's nice to have these motors that aren't a slave to computers and electronics. They are truly as reliable as a motor can be.
This is an amazing adventure. The old boat has proven it is up to the task with all of the fine work you guys have done on it. Congratulations and thanks so much for taking us along. I myself am an adventure junkie and I love this stuff.
Congratulations on your 1st successful voyage, I never doubted you all! Amazing all the skills the both of you have acquired over the years and your dedication to living a life on the water! I so admire your free spirit’s and heart for adventure! Clear eyes and a full heart can’t loose! Blessing on the both of you.
I don't know what's more awesome your crazy big beautiful engine room or your ridiculous amount of knowledge on how to take care of the boat and integrate Navionics with your various devices. Beautiful video cheers to you 3 carry on!
Awesome!!! Congrats on getting underway!! Mountain Myst is looking and running great! Congrats on getting this vessel back into proud and sharp shape!! Having lots of fun watching this series, many thanks for sharing these adventures here. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
I was just thinking, gee it's time Billy and Sarah put out a vlog, and i turn on my tablet an here u are, got me the biggest smile I've had all day. Nice cruise, boat sounds good. Thanks u three take care. 🇦🇺🌈
American diesel in Virginia sells all things lehman. Hoses, pumps, blocks and oil and engine coolers.Owners name Brian. His father did the original. marinization of Lehman engines. Many of the defever cruisers members who have lehman engines use him
Oh my goodness, you did it again. Smart planning & hard work sure paid off. Awesome to see Jets in the vid, I've missed her mug. Be well & Happy New Year!
Congrats on finding the pump and repairing your diesel engine. I spent 35 plus years at sea I used Bonine it worked and you could stand watch with it. Lucky to get such calm conditions in those waters you will have to weather tougher conditions to test yours and the boats limits. Looking forward to next week.
Hay you two it looks like your having fun . That was funny I was called Captain Bill for 20yrs also . I ran a 65 ft 20yrs, stay safe and no sea sick ok............
Thank you for cruising through the PNW. I’m in southern Oregon and love to see our beautiful coast line from your perspective. We have enjoyed your journey from your first video! Hope to see you out there soon, somewhere in this big wide world! Stay safe and calm seas to you!
Love your channel, been following about two yrs now. Just purchased a Cal 33 after 25 yrs of inland lake sailing smaller boats. Looking forward to coastal cruising. Have learned some things from you guys. Just to add to your GPS info... Yes, I was surprised to learn you don't need any cellular capability on a tablet to run Navionics, just a GPS antenna. I went with a cheap but great $100 Samsung A7 Lite tablet, no cellular, and Navionics works perfectly after downloading the maps as you mentioned. Technology is amazing! -Stay safe.
I've never seen the Oregon - Washington coast that calm while underway. I've crossed into the Columbia bar with 20 footers in a 16 footer. My 32 ft wood Grand Banks trip from Astoria to Warrenton , 12 footers for 24 hours. Single Ford Lehman engine. Dependable.
801st fan LIKE; 4.7K+ desktop phantom shipmate view. "Captain Billy" has a good nautical ring to it. Nice to see your 'yacht' looking ship-shape and ready to go to sea.
If you can buyer some Ginger Calm seasick pills or som Ginger Ale soft drink, but let it loose all its fizz before drinking it. We found both of these products work well. Also drink lots of water. Have a great trip.
Awesome to see the fruits of your labor. It's a beautiful thing that you have accomplished. Just a thought, put a new fresh water pump on the other engine and write the date you installed them. Put the "kinda" new one aside as the spare. I would think there should be an approximate amount hours that they should last. Cheers and have fun adventuring
I think that Lehman Diesel engines are marinized Fordson Tractor engines. Most agricultural suppliers of Ford Tractors will have the kit for the pump, and some even an entire exchange pump as long as you bring the old one. If you just buy the kit you will ned access to a press to fit it.
In 1974 I was on visit in bodega bay at my first visit to US . I was told that it was there the movie the birds was shot by Alfred Hitchcock . I was even inside the telefonebooth Tipi Hedren stood when she was attacked by the birds ! IF Idont remember wrong . Otherwise that route you are doing is nice . I was working on containerships for 10 years and we did that route on the way to Seattle/Vancouver .BC . The weather there can vary from storm to flat sea in hours so you have a great luck ! It's a wondeful place though to route because of the wildlife !
I just love watching you two working together on your adventures. I feel like I'm watching my kids. Good luck to you and keep having a great time.......
I like how u guys talked ab your personal challenges and routine on the water. Also I liked how u talked ab and showed the graphs of the counter roll mechanisms.
Try "Sea Bands" guys they are great. You should be able to get them at a drug store. Cheap as. They are an elastic band which place on each wrist with a button you place on a pressure point. Used them on several cruses.👍😀
This was posted four days ago and I couldn't believe that you guys are even considering going further north at this time of year. A quick check of "windy" shows me a couple of weeks of continuous heavy storms from San Francisco all the way to Puget sound, which is normal for this time of year. If you can make it to Eureka and they have a slip(better check ahead, they usually have a waiting list) you might just stay there till April when the storms moderate. May would be even better. You couldn't pay me enough to make that passage at this time of year and I have done it both ways.
Glad you guys made a safe passage in those rare flat seas that are pretty unheard of for December. I wanted to get out myself to the Farallon’s for fishing and crabbing but couldn’t put a trip together. Safe travels.
Really enjoyed this project of yours. Stunning visuals and fun, practical couple. Boat looks great. I was going to mention the fender racks but you answered my question as I was typing it ☺️
We are here on the southern Oregon coast at Gold Beach. Have you guys already passed us by? The storms here are intense right now so we hope you are already past us on your way to Newport. Best of luck in your journey (it is Tuesday, January 10th). Aaron and Mary D
I watch most of the videos, and have really enjoyed them, especially now that you're on the West Coast. I have a CHB 34 trawler with a single Ford Lehman 120 located in Stockton, and am familiar with all the people and locations you've been. I've been as far north as Bodega and Tomales Bays, and south as Monterey. I know you were watching a weather window, but if you get the chance, you should check out Tomales Bay. It really is a magical place!
I did this passage a couple of years ago during COVID and fires in Oregon. On the entire route, I saw maybe 10 miles of the shore. Usually within three miles of the shore and only once at six miles off. Candied ginger from Trader Joe’s works for some people.
The San Juans are beautiful! Spent a lot of time in Friday Harbor. Orcas has a winery. Roach Harbor is pretty and has lots of trails. Kayaking with killer whales is HIGHLY recommend! If ya make it, by the day bus pass on San Juan island to see American Camp, British Camp, and lime Kiln. I rode a bike to them, but it's a very long ride.
I feel for Sierra’s nervousness. That is a part of cruising not often talked about. I had a tired old Perkins on a sailboat in South San Francisco that needed to be towed twice and after that I always had that tingling in the back of my mind when I left the dock. The boat looks absolutely great after your restoration. Great job!
I can relate to that mention about your speed, and the distance you are traveling. I bought my Trawler in Florida on the West coast. I had to bring it to the East coast and then down to Hollywood while taking the Okeechobee waterway. The day before this trip I was caught in a school zone while driving to work....lol, while going 15mph I couldn't help but laugh to myself that I won't be going even THIS fast while traveling across the entire state of Florida and then to Hollywood. Too funny.
Billy, you might see if you can rebuild the old pump for a spare. It may just need new bearings and a seal or two. It's at least worth checking out. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
They've already sold the boat.
Lashing that spare belt to the coolant line is damn good forward thinking Skipper!
Yup, did same on mine.
But that construction with the hose through the belt is a pain in the ass - not Billie's fault.

Billy, you are so smart with those engines! You know everything! But Sierra is there to help you and make some very good meals to keep you strong!
Never even knew the North Pacific could be that calm! You really lucked out, we are so glad!

WOW calm AF!
