Nice video, David. I go manual now with Boss pedals, but have used Show Buddy to automate things and it's great if you want drag n drop simplicity.

Which type boss pedal do you use?
      Is it the FS-5U?

What visualizer are you using? Is there a free way free DMXIS? I'm thinking about just using Lightkey and ableton live triggers instead since I only need 20 channels

This is Capture: www.learnstagelighting.com/want-lighting-visualizer/ It's not free, but you can see at this link that you can use the Chamsys visualizer for free. To use any visualizer with DMXis, you will need additional hardware to get the DMX back into the computer: ruclips.net/video/AIzGFBGrrqE/видео.html&lc

I'm new to the channel not so new to DMXIS but I keep it super simple using only 3 DMX channels. I click a basic light show and focus my attention on playing keys. However, I'm struggling to find a video on ideal ways to assign DMX channels. Should all the fixures have a different channel? Should a cluster have 1-2 or separate channels? I realize much of this comes down to personal preference, programming abilities, show situations, etc. However, I'm relatively new to the lighting space and I'm just guessing at everything. Please help!

Best way is to give each it's own channels, but as you note, every situation is different and there isn't (1) right answer for everyone :)

If running DMXIS do I need a computer onstage as well? Or do I just need the DMXIS and a foot pedal?

Yes, it works via USB, and the computer does all of the "thinking". Some folks use small mini PC's or tiny laptops for this purpose.

Learn Stage Lighting .com thanks for clearing that up for me. I don’t have a computer to dedicate to it so now back to the drawing board to figure out what console might work best. Love your videos by the way. Learning a lot from them. I have a band and I am just stepping off into the stage lighting world.

Honestly, for most band's running their own lighting for small to mid-size shows, DMXis is the clear winner. It just kicks butt in that realm.
