Just because you explained the origins of the music, which I never paid attention to before (shame on me), at the beginning of the video, you get my like. Now I will continue with the rest of the video.
Catching up with your older videos.......again, I get so much out of this, not only in playing but thinking. Thank you! (PS..that groove you played is diggin' it)
Love the groove, but I'm not advanced enough to completely understand the " breakdown" .. The theory concepts are too complex for a beginner.. But I'd really like to be able to play it
Actually, this groove sounds more like a contemporary/smooth jazz bass line than neo-soul. Also, it seemed like he was reading about neo-soul after googling it. Not much personal insight offered. He also left out a couple key components that comprise neo-soul in his explanation. but, it is a good smooth jazz groove, and he seems to be a good player.... but this is not neo-soul
I love that this starts with understanding the origins of the music before learning to play it, great video!
Thanks Wulfeh!
joe hubbard you are a king
Thanks, glad you liked the lesson!
Actually, Leonard "Hub" Hubbard of the Roots was the one who perfected this current "neo-soul" bass concept.
The Hubbards sure got it going on😁😁😁
Thank you brother most helpful.
You're most welcome!
this is killer stuff here
Cheers Dude!

Thanks!
Most definitely a stank face groove.
LOL.... I said the same thing. I was making that "stank face" watching him play it!
Definitely a warranted stank face. 😂
Is this line currently published in any of your books?
the bass effect is very nice too. May i ask? :)
Many thanks. It just has a little reverb and chorus on it.
Very nice harmony !!! It would be great if you attach minus bass mp3)))
Cheers Asan!

love the groove. is it written specifically for a 5 string??
Yes, I guess it is. There are some notes that are "out of range" for 4-String, but you could easily adapt it.
starting one octave higher, or changing the key?
Paul Newman
Either one really. You decide!
you know its got that funk to it when that frown comes on his face

Those bass riff definitely neo soul bass lines, similar to bass line deangelo songs would use.
Who feels it knows it laawd.
♥️!
Amy Winehouse is Neo Soul.
